Graf Waldersee Marsch (Prussian March)

Der ,,Graf Waldersee Marsch" wurde vermutlich um 1900 von dem preußischen Komponisten und Musikverleger, Louis Oertel, anlässlich der Niederschlagung des Boxeraufstandes in China komponiert. Namentlich widmete ihn Oertel dem siegreichen deutschen Generalfeldmarschall, Alfred von Waldersee.
Im Trio des Marsches verwendete er die Melodie aus Georg Friedrich Händels Oratorium Joshua, See, the conqu'ring hero comes! (HWV 63).
In Deutschland ist die Weise vor allem aus dem Weihnachtslied ,,Tochter Zion" bekannt.
Das verwendete Bild ist ausschließlich ein Symbolbild und soll den damaligen Zeitgeist widerspiegeln!

The "Graf Waldersee Marsch" was composed around 1900 by the prussian composer and music publisher, Louis Oertel, on the occasion of the suppression of the Boxer Rebellion in China. Oertel dedicated it to the victorious german Field Marshal Alfred von Waldersee.
In the trio of the march, he used the melody from George Frideric Handel's oratorio Joshua, See, the conqu'ring hero comes! (HWV 63).
The tune is best known in Germany from the Christmas carol " Tochter Zion".
