Hi Michelle thank you for this video. Can you please make a tutorial on how you created your newest planner? I will love to learn one or two things from it. Thanks again.
Hey Chantal, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! 😊 Unfortunately, I can’t go too much into detail on how I created my newest planner, since I learned all the design techniques from Jayme at Cupcakes & Haystacks. Her Extraordinary Digital Planner Design course is freaking amazing for designing beautiful, realistic digital planners 😍 For anyone that’s interested, she currently has a special for $100 off the course. Feel free to check it out here: simpkinm--cupcakesandhaystacks.thrivecart.com/digital-planner-design-course/ (my affiliate link).
Oh my gosh this is fantastic! For years I've been wanting to create a digital planner - I created a paper one 15 years ago but just for myself! I''ll definitely use your link for the Planner courses. Thank you for all the great advice in here!
Aww thank you! I'm so happy you enjoyed the video. You're going to love making digital planners, especially if you're already made yourself a paper one. You're already one step ahead! 😃 Can't wait to see what you create 😊
This video was so inspiring! I loved seeing where you started and how much you've improved. I am just starting out and now I feel less stressed about trying to be perfect out the gate. Thanks!
Aww thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Definitely don’t stress about your first designs. Create them and get them out there. You can always tweak them later 😊 Best of luck with your planners!
Lol and that’s why we need so many different types of planners out there! There’s no one size fits all. What works for me might not work for you and vice versa 😁
You can create one using a course platform like Teachabe, Thinkific, or Teachery. Teachery is my fave since you can customize the course style a bit more.
Thank you for this video! I am just getting started with my first planner and I have a question about the number of pages that I am hoping you can help with. Say I want to have a daily intention page for my self care planner, how many pages of that would I need to create for each month? One for each day of the month or how does it work? Thank you!
You’re welcome! I’m glad you’re enjoying the video 😍 For the daily pages, you have two options: 1) You can include 1 daily page and tell your customers they can duplicate it as much as they want or 2) Create enough daily pages for the month so your customers don’t have to duplicate. I recommend option 2 but to make your customer’s life easier, add hyperlinks from your divider/section page to go to each of the pages so it’s easy for your customer to get to the correct page. This way takes more effort and time but the customers will be happier. Congrats on starting to create your first planner! 🤩
I have a question I can’t find anywhere. My pdf a lot bigger than what Etsy allows. How do you guys make it smaller? I’ve tried a zip file to compress it but it’s still to big…. Any advice??
Great question! You can host your digital planner on a cloud software like Google Drive or Dropbox. Then you’d create a PDF with the link to the planner and upload that PDF to Etsy. So then your Etsy customer would download the PDF and click the link inside to access their purchase.
Hi Michelle. Thank you for this video, I found it really helpful and inspiring. What app do you use to create your planners? I currently use Canva but I’m interested to know what other people use.
Hey Kim! Great question. I use Apple Keynote to create my digital planners and Affinity Publisher to create my digital stickers. Canva is an awesome program too 😃
Hey! Looks like there’s been an update to the template kit. They’ve recently launched Version 2 of the kit and I don’t think they’ve added in the landscape versions yet. You’ll have to contact the template creator, Michelle Rohr, to find out how to access them.
Great question 😃 The digital planner template kit doesn’t teach you how to market but it does come with templates to create your Etsy listing photos and Pinterest pins to promote your planners. The Extraordinary Digital Planner Design course does have a module on how to market your products on Pinterest. If you want to learn how to market on other platforms like Instagram, RUclips, or TikTok, you’ll want to buy a course that’s specifically made for those platforms.
Hi, I have a question. I see that people are listing their digital planners in etsy with different options like, tab colours or different colours for planners itself, Do they give it all together when you purchase them or giving you based on your choices?
Hey Edd, great question! Etsy doesn’t really let digital products have a customization option when a customer buys a product so you have two options: Offer all of the different planner options as one listing so your customer gets everything. Or split the planner options into different listings so that if the customer wants all of those different options, they’ll have to buy multiple listings. There is no right or wrong way to do it. Choose whatever option feels good to you and fits how you want to run your business.
Hey Mary! Great question 😊 If you’re asking about the patterns I used for my covers, I purchased digital papers (with a commercial use licence) from designers to use in my digital planners. I usually shop on Etsy or Creative Market for those. The actual cover design (the shape of the cover, the extra details like the band and drop shadows) I learned from Jayme at Cupcakes & Haystacks. This is the course I took to learn to design that: simpkinm--cupcakesandhaystacks.thrivecart.com/digital-planner-design-course/ Let me know if you have any other questions! 😊
Hey Tani, I’m not sure I understand exactly what you mean. Once your digital planner is ready, you’ll save it as a PDF, which is what you’ll provide to your customer.
I’ve had a look at your Etsy store , but you only have 1.5k sales since 2017? Has the earning potential dropped? Just trying to figure out if digital planners are still lucrative , let me know the factors involved in your Etsy shop
Hey Jayjay, thanks for your question! I’ve actually taken a few breaks in my Etsy shop since 2017 as I’ve explored other creative outlets. Though it’s never been my main income earner, I keep coming back to them because I love creating them 😃 There’s still potential with digital planners, for sure. Two shops of people I know create a full-time income from their planner shops. Just like printables still sell, digital planners will continue to sell. BUT it’s definitely not a get rich quick type of scheme. If you have no interest or passion for planners, I would recommend finding a different product to sell that you actually enjoy creating or using.
So cool to see your design evolution, you've become a great designer! Thank you for the tips
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😊 Good luck with designing your digital planner!

You’re very welcome 😊
How do i create a digital hub?
You can create one using a course platform like Teachabe, Thinkific, or Teachery. Teachery is my fave since you can customize the course style a bit more.
Hi Michelle. I know u said just pngs but can you make a video about Goodnotes stickers specifically??
Sure! I’ll see if I can make the video in the next week or so. Thanks for the suggestion! 😊

Hi michelle! Love this..quick question can you do this in Canva or in good notes?
I signed up for the Digital Planner Template Kit and there are no Landscape templates like you mentioned. Can you please tell me where to find them?

@@WildAndSolo thank you for the answer
Do you make your covers yourself? I mean illustrations? And what program do you use for making covers? Thanks for the answer in advance
