As we await the eighth game in the series, Wipeout 2048, this video gives a retrospective on the game's 16-year history
I've played ever Wipeout since 2097, and Wip3out is still my favourite. Everything about it was perfect. The tracks, weapons all the small features. Perfect.
Same I didn’t like the next one and didn’t play again until today omega collection rocks I’m so happy to be back
Man, I worked for a company that did the first multiplayer port of this game intended for dialup. I played the crap out of it. It's great to hear the soundtrack again.

HellfireWZ wished there were full playlists of each wipeout game on iTunes and Spotify.

I’m a happy ps vita wipeout fan that has almost every wipeout except fusion (1, 2097, 3 SE, 64, Pure, Pulse, 2048, HD Fury) this series is phenomenal and I will love it and cherish forever.
I love how in the older ones the vehicles constantly bounces and slips, it looks authentic, in the newer ones it looks like there is a magnet keeping you glued to the track all the time and it feels awful, it's not what you would expect from a levitating vehicle, Fusion is the worst example.

First of all, I would like to thank you Hellfire for making this tribute video.I'm currently playing first Wiepout games on ps1 and use your guides from GameFaqs.Just be aware that your legend lives on,and your work is much appreciated even after all those years:) I also want to express my opinion about latest games from the series.They may be faster,graphically outstanding,but overall they do not come close to the orginal ones.I guess my adventure with the Wipeout ends with both PSP games...
It is. Wipeout 3 SE had eight of the older tracks in it, Phenitia Park being one of them.
It was mentioned at the start of the 2097 section. It runs on the same engine as 2097 so I didn't feel it was enough of an evolution to have its own section, and all the tracks bar one are reverse variants of tracks from older games. Plus, I don't own it :P

Firestarter was the first single I ever owned because of 2097.

Man really felt the nostalgia with many of these.. I also noticed the graphics of your footage for the PS1 Wipeouts came out really well..
Same here, made me buy a PS1 (although I was a SEGA arcade fan), and a PSP.
I had so much fun on 2097, and still love the locking effect !

I LOVE Wipeout.
Games in order of how much I enjoyed them:
3- Words cannot describe it. Cockpit view!
Pure- Favorite modern one, was my first PSP game! If it had the handling of 3...
2097- HARD. HARD. I didn't mind the easier tracks but I got irritated at Gare D'Europa. When I got to Vostok Island I was almost crying!
HD- Good. Solid ships, grids were stupid, track selection too, but it was solid.
Original- Kinda hard, but fun for a while.
Pulse- Hated heavy ship handling. Platinum Rush and Outpost 7 were good though
Fusion- Bit more like F-Zero.
2048- Just a 'Nah..' game.
The track designs and gameplay were Always priceless.
2097 was my first ever PS1 game...bought it with my PS1 and it was the only game I had for a very long time...
@westbrionage Yes they have, it's all CGI. It was done in Montreal.
@neoqueto The reason for that is Xpander triggers a Content ID match, which would have plastered ads on the video. I agree though, it was the defining music track of the game.
@Carbonized433 It's Phenitia Park from 2097. It made an appearance in Wipeout 3 Special Edition along with 7 other classic circuits.
@MrBroken030 Not that I'm aware of, the rescue bot is very sensitive in that game. However, in 2097 there were places you could cut off significant lengths.

@fuseunison The F3600 was established in 2050, but the AG racing league itself was founded two years prior to that. XL is the US name for 2097, they're the same game.
Had the first Wipeout but didn't really gel with it till 2097. That game was amazing :)

Two wipeout games made my yaw droped graphics wise : wipeout 1 and fusion. Tough i loved 2097 to death! Gran de Europa was my absolute favorite with its dark tone and thunder claps. If only someone would do a 2097 remaster

Studio Liverpool released a number of free download packs for the game during the height of the game's popularity. The servers are no longer up, but you can find the packs if you search around.
@Djungelurban By similar to 2097, I meant the game engine. The video is showing how the series has evolved and seeing as 64 uses the same engine as 2097, I didn't feel it was enough of a jump to warrant its own section.
it was interesting to see who and when the first twin prong craft came out.
@LiveLarger Wipeout 2048 will be a launch title for the PS Vita on February 22nd
still prefer the dark tone of 2097 over all the others, not to mention it had some of the coolest tracks and ship designs
wip3out was when i think the games started hitting their stride. Fusion had the best music though :P

@Hecticmaniac The Vita comes out on February 22nd. If 2048 is still a release title then it'll come out then.
@LiveLarger Certainly not for the time being, I doubt Sony would want to undermine the Vita's release by bringing out a flagship release title on another console.

I never played it, but I already like wipeout fusion because the textures remind me of the first half life.

It's pretty much the same as HD, only it has some more features in it.

anyway, great video... I would have just put in an Odessa Keys clip and used Firestarter as soundtrack for 2097! (God I love that game, I still play it from time to time! ;D)

Found a little mistake, though: There never was an Amiga version of the original Wipeout but a port of Wipeout 2097

@HellfireWZ You are correct, the concept of the zone mode was born there. It was really the way the steering felt in that game and the design of some of the tracks that was terrible. Also the soundtrack was saturated with some of the most over-played and well known electronica music at that time like BT for example...when in reality we want something more unique for wipeout. Thanks for the video Hellfire, this memory lane wipeout vid is out of the best on youtube.
@Djungelurban 1 - It's very similar to 2097 and was acknowledged at the start of the 2097 segment. 2 - I can't include footage of a game I don't own.
Nice review through my childhood. Played al of these. My favorite is WipEout 3. I'm playing this on my phone very often.

I know the new game is called Wipeout 2048, but I thought that the anti-gravity racing league wasn't supposed to have been established until 2052? Oh, and what happened to WipEout XL?

@Mattdude411 I love 2048. Its a good prequel too. It needs to be fast paced like wipEout 1 an 2097.
in fury some more maps, tracks, modi and modified ships (some values and more skins ) was edited ... dunno why not evryone had it buy since i was free after the psn-desaster :)

.........somthing has just struck me.....Keep a close eye on the way the ship is viewed in the evo of the game. in the early versions the ship was ahead of the LOS of the player, then it became a static point in games like Fussion, then gradually returns to the original placement through the next few games.

@LambdaQuarks I'm still of the opinion that the only good thing to come out of Fusion was Zone mode.
I believe only the Developer kits have one.

Not sure if anyone else agrees but do you remember Vanilla and 2097 being a shit ton faster than the modern versions? i really do, might be the polygon count but the senceof speed and "FFFFUUUCCCCKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" i got from the olderversions was far more intense.
You guys should lend this man a developer's kit with HDMI out, so that he can update his amazing series of vids to 2048.
Top right next to the game loader. I have no idea why I never saw this before. Just look at a top view of the Vita. It's the one on the right.
@HellfireWZ Actually, Wipeout 64 has its own set of tracks, unique to the 64 version... So it's not like a port of anything... But your second point, I guess that's fair...
