Great scene. I love that Josh was just looking out for Santos as he was risking literally everything (I think he was set to remortgage his house) and that Josh didn't want him going that far. And that Santos knew it was worth it because of where he came from and how he wanted to turn around the impression of how his people saw the system. Showing them that someone like that can be successful is good for everyone. A world where the children know to pretend they don't know someone the government is asking for to protect them is a fundamentally failed system.
Vinnik had principles and believed in upholding them. He also believed in democracy. Both things are sadly lacking among current conservative politicians.
Vinick wouldn't have had a prayer winning the Republican nomination even in 2012. He clearly would have been a Never Trumper. Santos would be able to make it on the Democratic side, but he would have to tack towards the center-left lane in the primary. As he is written in the show, he straddles the divide between the center-left and progressive lanes, and that's not the way to win a primary. Just ask Warren and Harris.
Given that this show embodies the ethos of the Democratic Party back in the 2000s and earlier, the nobility and aspirational beauty of Santos' sentiment as expressed here leads one to ask, "What the hell happened to the Democrats?"
The little nod he gives after "We told them we never heard of you." is just.......*everything*.

Season 6 got things solidly back on track.
Jimmy Smits, one of the top actors of our time.
Fantastic stuff. Going from this to his stint on Dexter was wild.
OMG bring this series back to Netflix I ♥️♥️♥️♥️it.!!!!
Would vote for him in a heartbeat over our current choices. And I’m a right wing conservative.
I’m left and I feel the same thing about Vinick, although I like Santos too..2 terms Vinick after that 2 terms Santos!!
It’s Bail Organa; dude carried the torch of liberty for twenty years in the face of galactic tyranny.

I love how Helen high tails it out of the room because she knows what’s coming from her husband
Why would what he had to say make her want to leave the room?

First one through the wall always gets hurt. But that doesn’t mean it’s not the right thing to do.
