Thanks for letting me see this fun show again..I'm sure Mona never saw this hate, hate, stuff coming, good people would not. why do people feel that need to post as much hate at somebody everyday. you should know that from watching this show.. that the Island that got blown up was not the same Island that the bar and people were at,,,they left the bar and then you see them row up in the boat, at the smaller deserted Island that was near by.. it was little more than a rock.. use your brains people...all this was and is, is a classic adventure T.V. show. sheeeeeeeeess this was one of the most Un-Racist shows on T.V. at the time. Every episode someone on board gets their mind taken over. They seldom need to bring in any guest actors for antagonist because they usually just try to kill each other. And judging from the ambiance in some of the scenes, that sub must be as big as an aircraft carrier. Finally, for as big as that sub is, there are only about six or so people running it.The Admiral, the Captain, Chip, The Chief, Kowalski and one or two other guys.
In-universe, it was often shown that the Seaview was state of the art and heavily automated (was a plot point that the computers got overriden in a couple episodes by the baddie/monster of the week) so she required less in the way of a crew to operate her. Even with this handy bit of writing to lessen the need for extras on a tv budget with a lot of costly special effects shots, there was more than six. Often as not that's why we hear from the engine room and torpedo rooms over the comms, helps imply there are more crewmen even if we don't see them onscreen.
@@Shipwright1918 So why didn't they come running to help when the monster of the week was taking over the Admiral. Actually that admiral was a security risk because he was too susceptible to being mind controlled by the monster of the week.

This episode was probably one of 'Voyages' best if not thee best. Alfred Ryder was a fantastic character actor, & Basehart was tremendous as Nelson. The over-all chemistry with the crew was flowing well. Now subs like the Seaview would be manned by women as well as men/co-ed more than likely. It would be wonderful to bring back Mr. Mortan & Crane as top brass officials for a new crew & have flash-backs of the originiial like the old 'Kung Fu' series. It might just work.....Oh by the way Alfred Ryder was of Hebraic stock, but I loved his accent. RMA; Bakersfield, CA.....Over-all 'Voyage' was fun, but season four was a bit on the corny side.
So, during WW1, Capt. Kruger fell in love with Lani, he went to sea telling Lani he would return. So why is he haunting Admiral Nelson for???. Did one of Nelson's relatives sink his sub during WW1??.
Not seems like, the later shows suffered from "Lost is Space-izing", sharing props, monsters, aliens, story ideas... along with full abandonment of the original series writing "gestalt", of the first season or two. Season three is where is started shifting fully into a cheap show for kids, save for a few episodes here and there, that weren't just plain silly. I think if you pinpoint the first episode where they added the circuitry room, where it was added so writers could have it be sabotaged to shoot sparks, catch on fire, and send the Seaview careering into rocks on it's way towards bashing into the ocean floor at flank speed - that was the end of any decent writing.
