  • This film was created for the Valentia Technologies sponsored 'Working Together in Partnership' category of the 2012 Isle of Wight NHS Awards held in November 2012. For the first time in its history, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has a purpose-built control centre which incorporates state of the art communications and monitoring technology, staff changing rooms, auditing facilities, and a dedicated communications training room which doubles as the 'Silver' Command centre for use in major incidents when required. Over recent years, the demands placed on the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have increased dramatically with ever tighter response times and the need to provide improved care for Islanders and visitors. The Service deals with all enquiries for ambulance emergencies, GP urgent calls, patient transport, as well as an integrated Out of Hours Service. Last year, the Ambulance Service managed 21,000 emergency ambulance and 20,000 patient transport journeys. For more information visit www.iow.nhs.uk/awards.
