A few musical fill-ins, funky vamps and wild solos for ya! Hey Ernie fans, this is the third and final clip I have of Ernie's musical mayhem and flashy chops.
I'm from Youngstown, Ohio also and a guitarist! The Youngstown Ohio area and pretty much all of Ohio is rich in musical talent. Believe me. If you were a live band fan, you could find it all in Youngstown! Some of the biggest bands played and plucked musicians from Youngstown! Clinton Ellison, Keith Crockett, Tyrone Williams, Charles Bouis,Mark Lott, Howard Raney ect... Youngstown has always been hot. Major bands and acts often stopped in the area just to hang out and play with some of the locals. The Isley Brothers included! Youngstown City Schools had some of the best "Variety Shows" that showcased some of the best talent in the area! Long live the talent that passed through the Youngstown area. Keep playing!
Ernie helped Jimi? What? Ernie was a child when Jimi played in the isley's backing band. Ernie was influenced by Jimi as he watched him play around the house and rehearse with his Ernie's older brother's. Somebody really needs to check their history.
Ernie Isley is up there with Jimi Hendrix as my favorite Guitarist, l love the way he makes his guitar shift like a Jet, l spent thousands back in my young days buying pedals and equipment try to sound like him, he rules in Guitar, he is the Ax master.
Back in the 70s when I was growing up, Ernie Isley was one of "Rock's Best Guitarist" right up there with Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. It seeedm like in 1980, the guitar era ended, the Isley Brothers left the Hard Rock Sound back to the Pop/"Quiet Storm" type of music. Nothing wrong with that, but the focus turned on to Ron Isley, as "Mr. Big" & Ernie was no longer in the picture. Ron should let Ernie come and "Rock Out" one time on TV, do some of the old "Isley Rock Songs". That would be great!
OMG... I'm at a lost for words. Ernie, in my opinion and in my book, is up there with Buckethead. That guitar riff/ solo at 1:12 is something, as a producer, I would sample to make a beast beat. That alone is still amazing.
can you imagine a little back and forth with Ernie and Jimi on Hope You Feel Better ,Summer Breeze or Who's That Lady just to name a couple?talk about a two guitar attack.
Ernie was endorsing Yamaha guitars during this thankfully brief period. I believe this particular model was called the Pacifica, probably so-named because Fender was originally based in California. Obviously the Pacifica was Strat-inspired. They were decent sounding and playing instruments, but far less attractive ascetically IMHO. I was really glad when Ernie went back playing Fenders, as is good and proper.
My favorite rock guitarists in order of appearance: Berry, Richards, Hendrix, Clapton, Gilmour, Page, Gibbons, Isley, Rhoads, The Edge, Van Halen, Prince, Knopfler, Slash, Morello, Mayer.
@WonderWomanFan4life The clip is about Ernie Isley because I like his guitar playing. Its not about Luther, or Magic Johnson, or Robert Fry, or anything else. The 'Highwire' performance is a separate video.
@GitarCarl I understand but the clip made me think of once i had a really sweet bf who suprised me on my birthday and took me to LUther Vandross Concert and I was a HUGE fan of him. Then I had to get tshirt, program. I was going to college back then washed my clothes in the laundry room someone STOLE all my clothes including underwear from WASHER not dryer. So then when I saw Luther i thought of it. He is dead now just wondered where the rest of clip was I cannot find. So I love ernie too.
@GitarCarl so of course LUTHER fans are like wait a minute that is LUTHER VANDROSS and he had lost a lot of weight was he dying there? what year was it?? so when i saw him there i was just trying to figure out what year, what was his state of health? what was happening in the world and I just thought wow so many legends in the video why would someone cut it so short like that? No disrespect I get it. You are not a LUTHER fan. LOL take care!!
It was a likely a first generation Yamaha Pacifica. The better quality of them started in Japan then kinda went downhill from there when produced in other countries.
@WonderWomanFan4life If this was really 1990 then Luther blew up like a bull frog in less than a year. Check out his Dont wanna be a fool video if you dont believe me in 1991.
@WonderWomanFan4life what the front door is wrong with you... BAD EDITS? GuitarCarl didn't have to post anything on here.. if you want rare video clips go look for it yourself.. and yes it is ALL about Ernie Isley here.. God rest Luther's soul but underated artists never get the shine they deserve and Ernie still doesn't ... let the underdog get some shine for once and stop worring about "Bad edits"... Go edit your brain
one of the most underrated guitar players of all time
Yes he is. Deserves more public acclaim.
You are so right!!!

Oh my goodness. Don't get my moma started! Lol..She been saying this for years. She said he doesn't get the credit he deserves
Easily one of the Greatest Guitarists🎸🎸🎸 of all Time🎼🎼🎼 Master Musician
There were a lot of great musicians of that time who were not connected.
They went on to have regular lives or not.
Ernie helped Jimi? What? Ernie was a child when Jimi played in the isley's backing band. Ernie was influenced by Jimi as he watched him play around the house and rehearse with his Ernie's older brother's. Somebody really needs to check their history.
And l was influenced by Ernie after l heard their song That Lady which is generally one of my top 5 favorite songs.
Jimi showed Ernie some things as a kid I'm sure
Ernie was a drummer when Jimi was living with them. He didn’t start playing the guitar until years later.
Ernie Isley is up there with Jimi Hendrix as my favorite Guitarist, l love the way he makes his guitar shift like a Jet, l spent thousands back in my young days buying pedals and equipment try to sound like him, he rules in Guitar, he is the Ax master.
I get hairs on my back stand when i hear his stinging guitar riffs, such an amazing performer!
Kickass tone.
Arsenio's show was so cool. Ernie is incredible.

🤦🏿♂️If the "Guitar Era" ended in the 80's, you haven't been looking nor listening in the right places
@@GaryTisdaleFungkSta1 Thanks
If you think great guitar players ended in the 1980... U don’t know shit about music!!!
@@nexxxus7498 Leave em' alone, maybe he grew up or live somewhere with extremely limited media access, Sasquatch and da kids are neighbors😆
@@GaryTisdaleFungkSta1 nah he must have not look in other music bc he might not have liked some of your music and by the way this is 7 years ago kid.
First time hearing Ernie! Awesome!
Ernie Isley is a bad ass dude. He made them riffs that are timeless.
Skinny Luther! Peace
wow wow i love this there is no one that can play the lead guitar like ernie go man go
OMG... I'm at a lost for words. Ernie, in my opinion and in my book, is up there with Buckethead. That guitar riff/ solo at 1:12 is something, as a producer, I would sample to make a beast beat. That alone is still amazing.
I love the funky guitar. He's the best!
My hero as well as jimi
Damn man, this dude is insane good!!!
Great performance. Thanx, Ernie.
Ernie rides along with another former, though brief unfortunately, member of Isleys,Jimi H!
Jimi Hendrix tutored him-
can you imagine a little back and forth with Ernie and Jimi on Hope You Feel Better ,Summer Breeze or Who's That Lady just to name a couple?talk about a two guitar attack.

I sure do miss staying up watching that show when I was in high bach in the 90's
My favorite rock guitarists in order of appearance: Berry, Richards, Hendrix, Clapton, Gilmour, Page, Gibbons, Isley, Rhoads, The Edge, Van Halen, Prince, Knopfler, Slash, Morello, Mayer.
Great list bro
Great list! To mine I would add Mick Taylor and Peter Green.
Jesse Johnson before Eric Clapton
@@deanchapman1824
What, no Eddie Hazel?😳
@@meademorgan6614 Yeah he's good
For those wondering the riff/song is It's Your Thing
why was Luther just standing there??/ OMG thats LUther Vandross?? Wow I miss him he was great
Who's that Man? He 's always been that MAN on lead guitar. it stuffs that he never got his due. Outright genius.
Peace.
Best axe player ever
No Ernie is the youngest Isley's. If I'm not mistaken, Ernie really wasn't a full on member of the band until 1973 with the 3 + 3 album.
Actually, Marvin ISLEY is the youngest. Ernie is a year older
Ernie is so underrated.
ERNIE!!!
Badass!!!
@WonderWomanFan4life The clip is about Ernie Isley because I like his guitar playing. Its not about Luther, or Magic Johnson, or Robert Fry, or anything else. The 'Highwire' performance is a separate video.
ROCK ON ERNIE!!
I think Ernie is playing a Yamaha guitar.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

@sometimes350
Maybe the reason you can't find it is you're looking for the wrong name. It's "High Wire". It came out in 1990. Hope this helps ya!
Luther's in this video too ;)
Arsenio hit the patented running man on the way to the stage, he just couldn’t help himself!
Humbuckers in the bridge. But Ernie my
Is that Skinny Luther on stage WOW! What is he doing?
Few have captured the Hendricks vibe. Ernie, Trower & Randi Hanson.
Indeed. Of course Jimi played with the Isleys.
+Deborah Rowe jimi taught ernie
Frank Marino was a monster too that captured the Hendrix vibe
Jesus, do I have to say it? S.R.V.
Joseph Rucinski yes it is...Its Your thing by the Isleys.
ernie is fuckin sick !!! love that shit
Wow
Jimmy Hendrix taught him to play guitar when Ernie was 10 years old, when Jimmy Hendrix played guitar for the Isley Brothers band.
0:35 - 1:12, MONSTER !!!!!
@sometimes350 I have it, it's a great album. Look on amazon they may have it.
@GitarCarl
oh thank you...
I think Ernie is best the student becomes the master
Imagine he’s not playing at all and it’s all pre recorded and he’s doing a milli vanilli
Look at how thin Luther is.. I didn't recognize him at first
Twolegendslutherandernie

Signaturerose
my question is what kinda axe is he playing? It's not a Fender Strat, it looks like either a Ibanez or Music Man.
Yamaha Pacifica
Can some one help me with the guitar... does anyone know which Yamaha he is playing?
Miles Borg I'm pretty sure he only plays strats
It was a likely a first generation Yamaha Pacifica. The better quality of them started in Japan then kinda went downhill from there when produced in other countries.
What's the riff Ernie is playing?
It's Your Thing
Ernie has said he was heavily influenced by Carlos Santana
Bots like music too?
@WonderWomanFan4life If this was really 1990 then Luther blew up like a bull frog in less than a year. Check out his Dont wanna be a fool video if you dont believe me in 1991.
playing with the non funkiest band that played on late night tv. except for the drummer Chuck
