Thanks for the review, nice to see these finally out in the wild. Just to let you know, these are very much zzounds exclusive, no-one outside of the US is getting these (easily).

Oh wow I'm surprised no other retailers outside of the US have received these basses, hopefully they are available overseas soon. I had a similar issue where the orange Squier Affinity was only available in Europe so I got it shipped overseas. Then a week later Sweetwater had them available for preorder.

@jarrenvrekk8758 they're quite good. I was surprised. I have a 2002 gibson...wasn't sure was a necessary buy tho :) I also tried a gene simmons thunderbird too. It was quite nice....but the price is absolutely stupid

Glad you enjoyed the review! I agree, I am surprised by the lack of reviews available for this bass on RUclips. Hopefully more people start getting their hands on these basses!

Thanks for reviewing ! And man you can shred ! Saw one of these at a local store and considered it the first moment I saw it . These basses play great and sound awesome , but that finish is really something unique compared to the rest of their lineup !

Wonderful, you made that bird sing. I love my Thunderbird but even after moving the strap button and using a big strap, the body is so light and the headstock heavy that I'm just fighting the dive. Still I absolutely love it for those piano like tones and it's quick neck and not to mention it looks awesome. Thanks for the review.

Glad you enjoyed the review! The neck dive on this T-bird isn't as bad as the old Epihpones like the Goth Thunderbird which had the button on the top of the body. Still a little neck dive but not too bad.

Maybe get a strap that has a rougher texture on the underside

Nice review. I agree 100% on the laurel fretboard. I went to buy one in silver and all three that I found locally and horrible looking fretboards.

What do you not like about it?

    • @50beowulf

@SeattleSam-ul5hr The three that I saw had some very ugly looking wood for the fretboards. It was blotchy, and the grain was just irregular and cheap looking. These were not the sparkle finish but rather the standard '64. Laurel is hit or miss for aesthetics. It's inexpensive and readily available, which is most likely why it is being used here. I would have preferred that Epiphone had kept the pau ferro. I never had an issue with the pau ferro as some did. At least it is smoother and has a tighter grain. My Vintage Pro Epi Thunderbird has a nice, fairly dark piece of pau ferro.

Awesome review! The purple really fits the retro look.

Something else to note... The headstock is the original "oversized" shape, similar to the early 60's & 70's Thunderbirds which adds mass but makes them prone to breaking off due to the narrow 1.5 nut. The post 1988 Gibsons had a slightly smaller headstock which was much more proportiante and reduced breakage. Also, the lower horn on this Epi is smaller than a standard Thunderbird, and the bird emblem is not in the correct position. It's purely cosmetic - but it just looks off.

Fun to hear Chop Suey in the background, classic song that uses a thunderbird

tapered strings should work, id recomend the daddario .140 or .145 tapered stainless steel if your doing anywhere between drop G# to drop B

also i love the dirty tone at the beginner, it has me contemplating picking one of these up

Oh forgot about tapered strings! Haven't tried them on bass but might be worth trying out. Honestly though the best option is for Epiphone to retire these awful bass bridges haha

Oh shoot I didn't even realize it was blocked worldwide. That must have just happened this month yikes :(
It's not the first time it happens, hopefully at some point it'll get unblocked but can't guarantee it.
