About two years ago, based on your review, I read "Mrs. Death Misses Death" by Sale a Godden and loved it! I had to request it on interlibrary loan from my local, small town in Maine library. After a few weeks, I was resigned that hey hadn't been able to procure a copy from another library, been then I received a phone call that they had it. It came from an army base halfway across the country from me. There were stamps on it, "Property of the United States Army". If only military leaders in this country would read the book... but anyway, I loved it so much, and I need to get my own copy. But the whole experience also gave me new respect for my local library and the lengths they will go to fulfill and interlibrary loan request.
Willow, love your videos. Your reviews are excellent and I love your sense of humor! Hell House, Patricia Loves to Cuddle, and some John Scalzi are definitely going on my list. I will also check out your Left Hand of Darkness review. I appreciate all you do for book lovers! ❤
"I'm a transgender communist, i have a few political views": wearing your heart on your sleeve like that you make pride sound really iconic, go go girl, great video. 🎉
I really appreciate your 'go watch that video!' moments, I tend to binge videos by one creator at a time and often forget which videos I've banked away after noticing in my sub box. Especially in this case: I was really hesitant about Scalzi, but it sounds like my wariness might have been unfounded. Exciting to have another author to jump into now. 💚 It's also really interesting about the English/Scots difference with the poems - I read a book yonks ago about an Irishman sailing his way home, and one of the younger crew mates they pick up at some point was Irish, from a Gaeltacht. He said something along the lines of how poetry and stories must be experienced in Irish and not English, and I think about that a fair bit. I imagine it's not so different with Scots.
Fun fact since you brought up Mike Flanagan during Hell House; there was going to be a third "The Haunting of..." adaptation show for it on Netflix, but the rights were already spoken for. Ugh, what could've been.
As always, great video! My favourite book that I read this past month, and I think that you and your audience will love it too, was Martyr! by Kaveh Akhbar.
I don't like horror but I binged The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and The Fall of the House of Usher.
Perhaps the problem with the LeGuin review is it’s an older book that has already been reviewed extensively by many booktubers. Are you familiar with the Lambda Literary Awards? I don’t know how well it would translate across the pond, but I’d be interested in hearing your take on the trans nominees. Cheers!
As knowledge can comme to you in unexpected ways, so it came trough "Drunk women solving crime". The girls had an episode about Virginia Hall and mention the name of the book "A woman of no importance. An untold story of Virginia Hall WW2's most dangerous spy" by Sonia Purnell, Virginia was a badass aftee being disregarded by her own as an American (as she was a woman and a woman w with a disability) she was recruted by the English intelligence and went to Vichy France. It's very well written and Virginia is fascinating. Ps. Also Flanagan fan, he has a constant quality to his work and in worst case you can just say it was good. Being Polish and growing up in overreligious country I have particular place in my heart for "Midnight mass".
Le Guin constantly comes up in academic research around the anthropocene and ecological consequences. She's had such a massive impact in the ecology world! I'll have to finally give her stuff a read. Since the author of Enders Game is such a bastard-child, I'm on the hunt for some fun sci-fi to replace the bitter taste from finding that tidbit out. Maybe Leguin will scratch that itch. I Am Legend has its moments, though far fewer than Hell House... It's definitely worth a reread! (Honestly, I prefer Hell House, but sometimes I want some silly spooky book, not reminded about fabricated society 🫠) Brother sounds like a wishlist for sure! But first, the Ryu Murakami catalogue... no new books!
Unfortunately I was one of the ones who was sorely disappointed by An Education in Malice. After absolutely loving A Dowry of Blood, I found this book to be uneven, unengaging, and passionless. I never felt anything for the characters.
@@WillowTalksBooks Maybe because I listened to it on audio and the narration was meh? I may go back and read book on my own.. I certainly don’t want to give up on S. T. Gibson!
hahaha - since you talk about books, you shouldn't have political opinions? I appreciate hearing your opinions about anything, since you are so eloquent
Patricia Wants to Cuddle is such a wonderful book, and I'm really, really happy you read and enjoyed it. Seeing and hearing you praise it is a major highlight of this year for me. 🥹
Wow. I've been wondering whether you edited. How exciting.
Yep! I launched my editing services in January and it’s been a blast!

Ohhh I’m not ready for editing yet but I’m definitely going to save your editing info for later 👍
I love listening to John Scalzi books read by Wil Wheaton, I always laugh out loud and don't care if people stare. Can only recommend.
I’m so bad with audiobooks but I think I’m going to give his a go :)
@@WillowTalksBooks you also run, don't you? That's when I can listen to audiobooks best.
OMG, I LOVE Mike Flanagan! I love all of his Netflix series, but Midnight Mass was my absolute favorite!
Same!!
Your reviews are so thorough! I've added many of them into my TBR
Yay!! Scalzi’s finally made it in your lists!! :)
I love the way you explain books ❤️
I’m an English teacher, and I cannot wait to read The Language Puzzle! ❤💕❤️💕
the good thing about still being awake at midnight in the Western U.S. .. getting to catch Willow videos soon as they post!
I have work that I must do today, but all I want to do is watch you talk about books.

i am SO MAD at the algorithm for not showing your review the left hand of darkness. I guess i'll have to be my own algorithm hehe
Right. I've had Hell House lying around on my Kindle since last time it was 99p. I'm going for it....
Hands down best book reviews oh You Tube , these sound amazing
Scalzi's Kaiju is sooo much fun! It is true from a get go you will know if you love the humor and writting.
OMGGGG! I was soo sure you were going to review about Stuart Turton's book when I saw it in the background. now I have to wait till third of April!! 🥲

😮😢😭💔
Although House of Usher was, I think, his best work so far for Netflix. Are the Hell House rights still tied to the superb 1973 movie, I wonder?
Willow is on a roll! ❤
Thanks for a video!
As for Scalzi I'm probably reapiting myself but look up "Locked in" next.
The linguistic term used to avoid the whole language/dialect debate is (drum roll): Variety. As in "Scots is a variety spoken in Scotland."
As always, great video!
My favourite book that I read this past month, and I think that you and your audience will love it too, was Martyr! by Kaveh Akhbar.
Ooh I’ll check it out!
I don't like horror but I binged The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and The Fall of the House of Usher.
All amazing shows (except for The Midnight Club; my hypochondriac brain couldn’t get through it). Midnight Mass is particularly special imo
"Mike Flanagan fans make yourselves known in the comments" Hello yes that is me, I am an enormous fan of his work, and also your videos
❤

I just finished /The Left Hand of Darkness/ last week. I will admit, I spent a good amount of time thinking, "Just kiss already!" 🤭

Oh yes, I want to recommend horror The Horizon by JH. Finished in 3 volumes.

Woah, I felt word-for-word the opposite of all of that. Funny how our brains work 🤷🏻♀️
