      Their expressing of their freedom is all well and good so long as it doesn’t harm or threaten other students, make innocent Jewish students fear for their lives, or destroy the campus facilities! How does doing that solve anything or resolve the decade long conflict between Israel and Hamas?
      We need to use sense when doing things. These are private universities. They can’t take over private businesses and threaten everyone’s lives? This is not a cartoon! The notion that because some come from affluent families they shouldn't protest is ridiculous and un-American and perhaps they are actually in a better position and connections through their parents to bring the desired changes they seek.
      We either have freedom of speech and freedom of assembly or we don't.
      We cannot choose it only if we like the message. Btw historically student protest have been on the right side of history. Nobody is defending what happened to the poor people at that festival on that sad day, they are protesting what Bebe's wreckless response has been.

Somehow the national deficit is never an election issue really except for props. But I saw a projection a few years back that forecast that 10% of GDP would be servicing debt. It mentioned 2025 and a trillion a year in just interest, never mind paying a cent down. It's 2024 and you have rocketed through that projection by a full year. And ideas to stop it? 32000 years to count to 1 T physically and raising the debt ceiling is among the few things the trash in Congress agree on. 1 trillionof US taxes going into holders of US debt bonds..PER YEAR now.

Trump has been playing the "judge is biased against me and this is a witch hunt" card from the start, so the judge actively being biased against Trump due to this behavior would "prove him right" even if it would be fair at this point for Merchan to do so, so Trump feels like he can do it with impunity and get away with it.

    I usually like Morning Joe, but this was hard to watch. I agree that the protesters need to be peaceful, but there is a big difference between saying that and saying the kinds of things Joe was repeatedly saying -- which felt much more like some Fox news nonsense. The repeated use of words like "woke" and "kids" and "elitist" was just gross. It seemed as though Joe has a problem with allyship and activism and that's not cool. Obviously the destruction of property and any threats of violence are not ok and those students should be arrested and held accountable for their actions, but it seemed like Joe was calling for mass arrests and expulsions of all the students who were protesting and again, that feels like a very Fox news, right wing, extremist rhetoric and I was surprised to hear that kind of thing on Morning Joe. I really enjoy Morning Joe, like I said, so I hope they see this and reflect on what they said and realize where things went south and make an effort to do better in future. I do not think this report reflects well on them at all.

      These comments give me hope that this is becoming a mask off moment for MSNBC. About 4 or 5 years ago I came to realize the utter garbage MSNBC and lies had been feeding me. I hope you both start looking at independent news sources. I used hear that Glenn Greenwald and Matt Taibi were right-wing and believed it without having listened to them. Once I did I realized how unhinged Democrats had become because there is nothing further from the truth. Their great crime was defending free speech. They are both on the left of almost every issue but because the right were playing victims of censorship, a lot of them flocked to free speech defenders. Now of course the right are also showing their true colours on that issue.
      Look at were the censorship they have been decrying is leading. Democrats have gone even crazier than Republicans about labelling anyone who doesn't fall in line with establishment talking points and follow the narrative. Final point, there is actually no Republican, no Democrats as MSNBC would have you believed. There is only the Uniparty and their only concern is enriching themselves and their donors. this is why they have been unable to pass any bills that benefited the American people. But fund wars, fund Israel and warrantless spying on American citizens against the constitution? Suddenly we have bipartisan consensus.

    • @pdoylemi
      @pdoylemi 20 дней назад

      The problem is not the Palestinians per se. Joe is wrong about a lot of things, but he got one thing right - the power brokers on both sides do not care about them. Just last year a Hamas spokesman told Al-Jazeera, "If two million of us have to die to destroy the Jews, we will die." Netanyahu does not want peace, he wants to drive Palestinians out of Gaza and the West Bank. Hamas does not want peace - they want to destroy the Jews. In between are ordinary people caught in the cycle of violence.
      Worse yet, until recently, Arab leaders basically conspired to put the Palestinians where they are. First, they forced those not willing to fight the Jews to fight them or die after Israel was recognized by the UN. There were cases where Palestinian towns and nearby Jewish towns got along well - they had no interest in fighting (mostly) but other nations (Syria primarily) sent people in and murdered leaders who would not join the fight - this led to the expulsion of many from their homes. After the war, when Israel tried to send aid to the refugees, Arab states often blocked them from doing so. I am not praising Israel for this necessarily - they were weak at the time, and their best bet was peace with the displaced Palestinians, but the surrounding nations saw an advantage in having an angry, displaced population there.
      Now Israel is powerful, and they have a bad leader who is happy to USE that power. The average Palestinian has been a pawn of one side or the other, or both for their whole lives.

    I also believe that you are trivializing what Israel is doing to Palestinians. How can you be heard if most politicians are bought by AIPAC and Netanyahu's determination to ethnically cleanse Palestine. Israel is not a democracy, it is an apartheid that occupies another people's country. I lived there doing peacekeeping work and met many Jews that supported Palestinians and protested against Israel. Many of the college students are aware of what is really happening and that protesting won't make much difference. I do not condone violence unless it is done to save lives.

    It deeply saddens and astonishes me to witness individuals resorting to violence in order to voice their frustrations with the current state of affairs. History has shown us time and time again that true change can be achieved through peaceful and powerful movements, such as the civil rights movement and the Indian independence struggle. I implore those who seek to initiate change to follow in the footsteps of these noble movements, and channel their energy and passion into peaceful, yet impactful actions. Let us come together in unity and solidarity, and strive for a better tomorrow through dialogue, understanding, and nonviolent means.

      How things have changed. In the early '70s my parents felt safe enough to take my 8-year-old brother to a peace march. I participated in many anti-war and pro-farm worker union marches and rallies and yes, there were a lot of people standing along the edges yelling nasty things, but the only violence I ever witnessed was from the police directed toward marchers.
      The Civil Rights legislation that finally came about In the '60s happened because most of the country was horrified and ashamed at what was happening in the South. Granted, housing rights and work discrimination in the North didn't just evaporate, but the example of non-violence set by the marchers, black and white, had the effect of changing many formerly 'benignly' racist people to reflect on their own thoughts and actions.

    I don’t have an answer, but I do recognize at least part of the problem. Solution is not a part of the picture today. Anger is fed, because anger is more easily led. Whether it is conservatives or liberals, black, white, male or female. An acquaintance, because we could not be friends, a retired police officer is full of anger, but he does not want to do anything other than have that anger. If your anger can not be put into action to find a solution to those problems , you are only SELFISHLY in it for yourself. I am sad, for him and for others that basically walk around flipping off the world but are not engaged enough in reality, grown up enough to put peace and justice ahead of yourself.

It's messy but can be non-violent even when occupying buildings. Colleges should create forums for civil discussion and education. STOP COMPLAINING and work with young people to help them shape a more peaceful world. And us old people need to first shut up and LISTEN to our youth and then fill in the gaps in knowledge.
