Nordlander, I hope the Ham radio testing goes smooth for you. I've been watching Kapper Outdoors set-up and hook-up his large antenna tower and several of his friends sync'ed the receiver/transmitter. Pretty interesting. He's going all out to get his system up and running. Can't wait to see you get your system in place.

I think they eliminated the requirement for learning Morris code, so that should make it a bit easier.

Ya, it kinda torqued off the die hard hams out there but the art was losing new recruits. Can I say torqued?

@@1crazynordlander Well, the comment showed up, I guess we are ok for today! ;-)
Yea, I know a few people that were mad, but mostly because they got forced into studying for something they will never use, and the new kids get a free ride.

@@JimsEquipmentShed I don't think the Morse Code would have been a deal breaker...Here and now just happen to be the right time for me to pursue this dream that I have had since tearing apart my first transistor radio...make sense?

I think it kept me from getting a license when I was interested in it, as I didn't have the time to dedicate, and couldn't quite get the hang of it other than SOS. ;-)
And now, years later, I just don't care about it anymore.
The GRMS license was easier, "take my money". ;-)

@@JimsEquipmentShed I see it as a boys club of sorts. It seems as if the FCC promotes this attitude. I am not going to join the local club because one of them road my backside when I started a computer sales and service business in my local town. He bad mouthed my every move. I see it as an opportunity to learn more about another technology that is not held in check by infrastructure that can fail by natural or man made disasters.

Fyi.. you cant use that for gmrs or frs... its not compliant as it has a removable antenna and also because its frequency based, not channel based.

FRS-NO. GMRS-YES! Google GMRS mobile transceivers and tell me that they have non-removable antennas. Watch my videos on GMRS transceivers.Go the Midland website and see that they have GMRS antennas for sale for their GMRS transceivers. Look at the Channel lineup for GMRS transceivers. Some channels are shared. Channels are not a frequency? How does that work? A specified frequency, yes.
There are a few home brew manufacturers like N9TAX and KB9VBR out there that make antennas for the GMRS "frequency band" Yes they are herded into specific frequencies that are called channels like CB radio. The limitations the FCC places on GMRS is height above the terrain or a structure you happen to have at your home so you can place your antenna on your penthouse on the top floor of a 100 story building if you wish but there is a limit to the height that antenna can be place above that structure.

That doesn't make it legal to transmit just cause they are selling them AND again... channel based, not programable freqs

@@aviationnationhd3760 I was not using the Baofeng radio with this antenna or using the baofeng as a GMRS/FRS radio. I was using this as a Ham Radio...a very poor one at that. I had a GMRS Mobile transceiver I used with the antenna. Baofeng was for show and tell. I have the VHF/UHF N9TAX antenna for the Baofeng.
