- Dr. Marilyn Wedge persistently highlights the correlation between digital screens and the emergence of what she terms as "Virtual Autism" or "Environmentally Triggered Autism" in children. She asserts that major pharmaceutical and insurance companies are capitalizing on this phenomenon by profiting from the sale of medications. A distinguished family therapist and author of three books in family therapy, Dr. Wedge holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and a Doctorate in Social Psychology from the University of Chicago, where she was honored as a Danforth Foundation Fellow. Her doctoral research delved into the study of narcissism.
Following her academic achievements, Dr. Marilyn pursued a post-doctoral fellowship at the Hastings Center for Bioethics in New York, supported by a grant from the National Institute for the Humanities. Throughout her career, she has imparted knowledge at institutions such as California State University, East Bay, the College of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of Chicago Extension. In Arizona Medicaid DOES pay for 1:1 in person, virtual, group and family therapy, and in home & community ABA therapy. They also pay for behavioral coaching, speech, PT, and OT.
Truly in line well done Marilyn
I wonder if this is at all correlated to a sense of self, self awareness of the body, and regulation between the body and brain.
If kids are mostly motionless while on screens, they may unknowingly be not meeting the brains demands to stay regulated with the body. Sensory issues, poor coordination, and abnormal pronunciations all relate to motor skills and sensations. (I think)
I wish I was studied enough in this subject to act like I know anything. This is just a thought.
Well it is a question what is actually a cause and effect. If we are exposed to lot of social situations we get better at them no matter if they are autistic or not. Similar to excercise, if you make people with all excercise abilities excercise more they will get better at it even if some have bodies less predisposed to be good at it then others. So to "screens cause autism" that is very strong claim that requires more proof, when it comes to makes you behind on socializing then 100% agree.
Medicaid payed for my son's psychotherapy, family therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. After doing all that for several years and seeing no major benefits, we then tried meds. After only one month on meds, he was functioning so much better and still is years later.
Amazing 😃
We're expecting a child.
Based on your experience that you so kindly shared, we'll just give the child the phone to keep them entertained and calm.
If they develop autism it's good to know that treatment is great. 😊
No need to listen to this charlatan who is being interviewed. Keep up the screen time 👍👍

This was fascinating. Thanks for putting the doctor in front of a camera. 👏
Glad you enjoyed it! The though of coming out of the womb normal and then developing a Autism through screen time is frightening
Great interview 🤓
This happened to me at 18 months old. As a toddler, I ate 🥓🥓🍞 Bacon, and dry toast no crust, (and sometimes
dry cereal for breakfast) with only strawberry milk🥛🍓and 🍟French fries for lunch & dinner with snacks also. 🍎🍌🍊🍇 & chips. I liked crunchy things, nothing doughy. They tried to get me to eating other things, and I would not until I met a boyfriend who got me to eating when I started working at 16. I also took appetite medicine to make me hungry a few times. The doctor said I would just grow out of it. I didn’t know what I had until I was almost 50. I read about it and then I knew what I had. My parents never knew they always had to pack my groceries wherever I went.
How is this not all over YT
We need to get Dr Wedge on a bigger platform like Joe Rogan.
This perspective is not popular with the media industries as you can imagine. Studies concerning virtual autism are done outside the United States for a reason.
Great 👍 content
Thank you bro. Don't let the los Ninos sit in front of screens super bad for their development.
😮😮wow I've heard about this food colouring issue lately. It's actually a thing and it's sad...
Very concerning - thank God for Dr. Wedge bringing light to this subject
Yes, Red 40 seems to be linked to hyperactivity.
I don’t know if I buy it I got a son who has autism and he had it since he was born I can tell because my other son who is not autistic I can see the differences in them from the time they were two months old so I don’t think a phone gave my son autism.
Not all autism is Virtual Autism. We distinguish between "classic" autism, which existed before electronic screens and "virtual autism."
@@marilynwedge6222 thank you Marilyn I definitely was not trying to discredit your work and I understand what your saying. Thank you for your input
