Honda Wiper Motor Replacement

- Here's a video demonstrating how to replace a windshield wiper motor on a Honda Accord.
After a while windshield wiper motors burn out, or the linkages break, causing the windshield wiper to stop functioning properly. Other symptoms include them working in reverse, making a clunking noise, not returning to the home position, or them being out of time, causing them to collide.
This video shows you step by step how to remove and replace the windshield wiper arms, transmission and motor assembly.
The windshield arms are first removed by loosening the 17mm nut at their pivot point. They can then be pried up and off of their splines.
Next, the plastic windshield cowl, which sits below the windshield needs to be removed. Its just held in by clips. Remove both the left and right sides for easier access.
Once the plastic is out of the way, 4 10mm bolts can be removed to free the windshield wiper transmission and motor assembly from the vehicle's body. The electrical connector can then be disconnected, and tested using another 12V power source.
It is very important to align the timing marks on the wipers when reassembling the unit. There are 3 timing marks on the housing and one arrow on the motor that need to be aligned when the motor is in the home position. Run the motor with no linkage attached to reset it to the home position before installing the drive linkage.
This was demonstrated on a 2004 Honda Accord, and is the same procedure for all 2003-2007 Accords. This procedure may also be similar to the Acura TSX and TL.
My husband is deployed and my windshield motor went out. This video helped me save hundreds of dollars! I called 5 shops around my area to see what price it would be to have my windshield motor replaced and I got estimates from $300-$700 dollars. I bought the motor at an autozone and my sister and I replaced it ourselves by watching your video. Thank you!
Glad it worked
Your husband is blessed with an intelligent wife. I love hearing about women who are tired of being taken advantage of, and get it done!!
Thank you very much for this excellent video. I decided to replace the whole motor and transmission assembly as one piece. The project went very well. I also removed the molding along the top left side of the hood to get the cowl out. Maybe I didn't have to. It's certainly good to have a kit of these plastic clips to get everything back together tight because once you pull them out, they're often useless. In my case the actual fault was with the transmission. The bushings had failed. I also found a ton of compost in the area under and near the assembly, probably from years of leaves decomposing in here. I used a shop vac to clean them out well. Again, thank you for the video! It gave me the confidence to attempt this repair myself and it went very well.
I Google how to replace my Honda Wiper Motor and found your video. Thank you for making this video! I'm almost 65 yrs. old and did it myself today! I bought a used wiper motor from junk yard for $35. Price of new I think about $80-90. Repair shop was going to charge $85 to replace. I decide to do myself! Can't be happier that I saved money I didn't have!
Thank you, it went exactly as shown. Easiest car repair I have done in a long time!
You are welcome
Just had my wipers go out while in the rain! I appreciate the video even after 2 years of making it! Makes me feel 1000x more confident in it being an easy fix! Thanks!
I'm glad it helped
Thanks. I had done a repair on my 06 Accord wiper mechanism but I messed up the park position of the wipers. Using your video, I could see exactly where to align the arrow on mine. My mechanism didn't even have the three little lines to point at so I looked closely at your video and could eyeball it. Worked out perfectly.
Nice

Wish my 2004 accord had loose parts like yours bc dude I was STRUGGLING to take certain things out it’s like they were glued together, but hours later & multiple trips to the hardware store, I did it. Thank you
Yeah working on a Rusty car isn't fun!
The tip to run the motor for a couple cycles before connecting it to the linkage was a great. I fought with mine for a couple of hours, tried that and it worked perfectly. Thanks for posting!
It has to relearn the home position
I was replacing the motor in a 2002 Accord, but your dissembly of the assembly still helped out a ton. Thank you!
I just wanna say thank u. I watched ur video and replaced the windshield wiper motor on my Honda Accord EX with no complications. It was just in time, as if today, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, we r having a stupid snow storm. U saved my life and my job and a fortune from going to the mechanics! So again, THANK U!!!!!
I followed your video step by step it was so easy. Thank you!! You saved me $100
Glad it helped!
It sure did thanks again
Good job, I'm going to attempt on 2008 Accord this week. Really glad you included clear to follow re-install. Thx for video.
+Robert Z Thanks glad it helps
My dad and I made this a little project for my car. This video was a lifesaver!!! Thank you so much (:
Glad it helped
You sir saved my girlfriend from a shop visit. I replaced the motor within a hours time. I will say anyone doing this themselves have a couple 30 amp fuses on hand incase the motor shorts out on the car frame. Great video💯
Glad it helped! It's pretty straightforward
Thanks for the help. I tried 4 times before I realized I had to make sure the motor was zeroed. I appreciate the video!
Great videos that really saved me.
I swapped out my wiper transmission. I used a different video that did not mention cycling through to set the home position. My wipers ended up in the up position when I turned it off. Thanks to your video I was able to correct my problem.
Awesome job
I saw this video about 45 minutes I change my motor u made it so easy save a lot of money not going to a mechanic it was so easy after watching video thank you awesome video
Your welcome
This video just saved me time and money!
I had to replace the whole assembly, and I followed your instructions to the "T"
and all went well!
And I am by no means a mechanic. But thanks to this video, I was one today!😅
Thanks! Just replaced my daughter's 2011 RDX wiper assembly last night. It was tight putting the assembly back until I lined up the linkages. Works great.
Glad it helped!
Just had to replace mine and this video definitely made something that seemed difficult really really easy. Thank you.
Very helpful video step by step and very efficient in detail just got done putting my new wiper transmission in my accord didnt need to change motor though just bushings were breaking off but also open up the motor as well to see if gears were good as they were thanks again for this awesome video
Glad it helped
Just replaced mine using this video. Thanks for the guide. Took me less than an hour.
Your channel is underrated you just saved me hundreds of bucks, big companies try to fool you but you got heart to put time into this thank you
Awesome, glad you replaced it yourself
Thanks! This helped me replace the wiper motor on my 2009 Fit with a used one and save lots of $$$. The process was nearly identical, except that there were no registration marks on the linkage or motor. Just had to cycle the motor and make sure the linkage was in the fully extended (i.e., straight) position before bolting it to the motor. I don't have much experience working on cars but the complete job still only took an hour.
Glad it helped, and yes important to make sure it's in the right position
Thanks for this video. I just did this on an 04 coupe and there were a couple differences worth noting: the coupe model uses a different motor for one. There’s no notch to line up on the wiper linkage but rather 2 lines running along the “bars” or whatever you’d call them and the linkage also looks different. Other than that it looked to be about the same
Great job! I followed your instructions and was able to replace the motor with a used on from eBay for $27 (including shipping). Your tip on how to align the arrow with the 3 bars was invaluable. Without that tip, I'm sure I would have spent a long time trying to figure it out. THANK YOU!
+tonylou1234 I'm glad my video helped!! Thanks
Thank you! I followed your instructions exactly and everything works now with no problems. The new linkage assembly I got didn't have the tic marks on it, so I just estimated it from the old one, but it didn't seem to be a problem.
Thanks for video
Short and to the point - no BS
Good job!
Great video man lots of car repair videos that are poor quality but you gave great info and well shot!!
Agreed. Mechanics making videos don't focus on the quality of the video from the viewers perspective and just want to get the job done.
Great video. Very easy to follow along, with detailed explanations, and camera views.
Thank You for the upload.
+kalilova I'm glad it helped you, thanks for Tue feedback!
Awesome, just installed new wiper motor on my 05 Accord. Install was easy and fast!
+Bill Mroczkowski great. Glad it helped
Just replaced in my daughter's 2003 Accord. Bought the whole assembly for $100 with motor. Some took effort as he mentions but did it in about hour.

Thanks I appreciate your feedback. I love making videos and love working on cars!

great video, very informative for my project which a little different. I need to replace the linkage rods/arms. I believe I can do it from what I saw in your video. Any instructions (a video would be awesome)you could recommend would be great. There not many videos involving 06 Accords. Thank!!

Fantastic video! It really heped out a lot, thank you!!
Very complete instructions
What tools are needed for this replacement?
Very efficient video buddy!
Thanks.
Thanks for this video! However in the motor replacement I bought, there is no washer included. Instead, it was just a nut with groovings. After several use of my wiper, that nut is falling from the assembly, causing the wiper not to engage. What can you recommend me to do?
Help….followed video…but first time didn’t zero out and wipers stopped at top. Then watched video again and tried zeroing it out and took nut off and turned engine in twice on low. Put everything back on and still exhibits same outcome. Thanks in advance
Thanks man, really helped
Welcome
Am doing everything right except the timing part . Do l turn the motor key 🔑 on twice 🤷🏻♂️or the wiper motor switch twice .l can get it going it only runs one time .and it stops half way and then it won’t move at all ofter that .l no it has samething to do with the timing part can samebody help me please ?
Thank you, very helpful and detailed.
Left Winshield wiper only goes about halfway. Is that the motor or something different? Just wanna make sure before doing all the work.
You might need to clean those contacts inside
Awesome video, you are perfectly descriptive and the camera angles/lighting is on point
This video helped me get a part I needed oh so badly today. Thank you!
You are welcome. I'm glad it helped!
For some reason my motor nut won’t tighten and keep spinning making it impossible to tighten. Any recommendations?
I have questions ..I have car honda crv 2009 the wiper motor wehen I put first speed working 5 times and stop
Thank you. Got the info I was looking for
Thank You! Great video!
If the fuse isn’t bad and the wiper motor isn’t bad, what else could be the issue?
Wiring
could the motor have something to do with my wipers moving on their own?
Would this video be similar to a 2005 Acura MDX? I can't find any videos for my vehicle for the wiper motor.
Yea but the cowl might be slightly different setup
Helped a lot.. thanks. Got mine back in with no issues
+m wazzey Glad it helped !
Great tutorial. Thanks
+SDU-Tango thanks. Got another one coming up soon for the corolla.
Good video.
my accord's wipers will either swing to far or not swing up the whole way then SLAM down. which part of the assembly do you figure has failed ?
Roughly followed this and found that my linkage just kinda popped off, although my nuts to hold on the wiper arms were 14mm and not 17m
Great video, thank you.
Big question though: how do I tighten the 17mm linkage bolt? Whenever it gets a little bit tight, it turns the gears rather than torquing / tightening the bolt.
How did you resolve that problem? I can see that happening on some of the wiper motors.
Same thing is happening to me
At the end of the video it showed them not lining up.
How did you get then lind up???
Thanks man it helps me alot
+Sukhpreet Singh glad it helps!
Would this work on the 8th gen? I can’t find any videos on it or anyone talking about it anywhere. Guess I’ll find out, I’m going to change it now.
It'll be very similar in some sense
@@speedkar99 it was basically exactly the same, thanks for the great video :)
Thank u man u saved me money
Right on. Thanks man.
Glad it helped
Do you uys know it will be the same on a 2007 Fit?
Thank you 👍
Will it be the same for a 2008 Acura
Thank you.
would this be the same for a 1996 honda accord STATION WAGON? would there be any reason other than the wiper motor as the issue? my front wipers do not work but my back one does
The wiper switch, fuse or wiring. Test for voltage at the wiper motor and troubleshoot from there.
I litterally have that same car same issue
I was just wondering if this is about the same for a 05 Camry v6? My wipers don't delay anymore when I twist the ring, all it does is the fast setting then back to slow. Do you think it's the motor?
+Theo Sounds like an issue with the switch itself. Take it apart and clean it:

This for a 96 honda accord also?
very good job
+robert gorge glad it helped
Thanks.
I have a honda accord euro and the motor is bigger then the hole it needs to come out of.
Before I attempt to change my windshield motor is there something else I should check first before doing so?
+Kathleen Espiritu As long as you've diagnosed it as the motor your fine to replace as per video
speedkar99 thanks! Found out it was the electrical because I moved the windshield wiper and it worked. Going to spend some time on the loose connection soon.
very clear. thx
+piano z Glad you enjoyed my video.
