The reason Abyss became X champion is this is the time period in which Immortal (namely Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff) was on a mission to rid TNA of the X-Division. Kazarian was champ at the time and Immortal used their power to force him into an X title match with Abyss winning the title. That's how he became X champion.
