      If I eat typical restaurant meal with family or yummy Cathy breakfast then try 72 hr I feel awful for 48 hours and shakey day 3. So now I prepare for it properly.

    I was on the verge of being a diabetic 5 years ago. I started keto and started intermittent fasting shortly after learning this. Fast forward 5 years…I’ve worn a CGM now every few months, and my blood sugar level stays in the 50’s and 60’s for the most part, and will fluctuate up to 100 right after meals. I ate 2 pastries and some candy yesterday (very rare) expecting my sugar to skyrocket, and it only spiked up to 120 and went right back down. I was very surprised! Is this normal? 5 years ago it would’ve shot up to 300 plus, and wouldn’t have come back down to the 100 range for days.

    I wonder, if Tom had been supplementing potassium citrate, whether this would have happened. Potassium is sodium sparing, and sodium is potassium sparing. So, if potassium is maxed out, as it would be supplementing with potassium citrate, it gives a much larger margin for error with sodium.
    *Disclaimer. Supplementing with potassium can be dangerous which is why potassium supplements often are only available in 99mg doses, yet humans have an RDA of 4700mg. Potassium chloride will elevate blood serum levels of potassium regardless of whether you need them elevated or not. Supplementing with potassium "citrate" however only makes the potassium "available" for uptake if it is needed, therefore supplementing with potassium citrate is much safer.

    • @trail.blazer
      @trail.blazer 5 месяцев назад +2

      The primary reason for limiting potassium chloride supplements to 100mg is because a concentrated dose that sites in the stomach or gut can cause damage. Potassium citrate can be taken in higher amounts.
      Whilst I agree with your comment in general terms, overdosing anything can be a problem, you are not going to have problems with potassium citrate if you don't take silly doses. Taking 4700mg of potassium would of course be a silly dose.
      I currently take around 2,800mg of potassium citrate (900mg elemental potassium) through the day in long drinks of water because It reduces my pulsatile tinnitus. It has zero effect on my blood pressure and no heart issues. I've been doing that for many years.
      Potassium chloride is not good to regularly supplement as it has been associated with lowering B12 absorption. Lite salt may not be a good idea.

      You wish people warned you about what? I’m 57 and and I’ve been doing intermittent fasting since August 2019. I recently started a weekly 40 hour fast and I’ve done that 42 weeks in a row so far. I don’t do keto or carnivore. I just eat a high protein/low carb diet and avoid processed foods and sugar for the most part. I workout 7 days a week for 30 minutes a day. I seem to be doing fine. @@adelinekeys6582 I get it that extended fasts may be a little much but just doing IF seems like what our bodies were designed to do. If you think about it, it was until the last hundred years or so that refrigeration, packaging and preservatives really came into play in a major way along with all the convenient cooking methods. People didn’t have access to food 24/7 along with microwaves/electricity/etc like we do now and probably practiced IF without even realizing it. I’m sure it was more common to go a day (or two) without food as well or maybe just snack on some jerky, dried fruits or hard candy. We’re just accustomed to all the modern conveniences and it’s not necessarily good for our health.
      I’m not sure what you mean by 3x/week for 36 hours? That sounds like what I do once a week, but doing it 3 times. I don’t eat from 5pm Friday to 9am Sunday. So 40 hours. If I ate up to 9pm Friday that would make it 36 hours. That just sounds like alternate day fasting. I’m not sure how that could be so bad. @@douglasbriel6103 if you have made it to one meal a day then you are there already just make a push when you are ready. Eat whole food like bacon brisket butter eggs you will feel full drinking 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar vinegar will make you feel fuller longer, eating carbohydrates last is to reduce insulin spike, if you are not hunger ask yourself why do you eat, you will answer your own question. Sometimes I want a snack I would eat pork rinds purchase from Mexican grocery store. Please remove all seed oil like canola oil vegetable oils etc use lard, tallow butter to fry your food. You will find the food tasted much better and you feel satiety rather just eating. I walk 3x a week I added a backpack about 10% of my weight to help burn calories as I walk and plan to increase the weight of the backpack as I progress but no more than 25% of my weight. After walking I would sprint and this had help me flatten my tummy. I am being doing this for over a year lost 23lbs back to my weight before I got married. My husband and son do IF and lost weight and keep it off and feel a whole lot healthier. Good luck my friend you will not regret the change.

    Are you supposed to stop taking regular medications during the sardine challenge? I'm taking Metformin, blood pressure meds and thyroid medication Levothyroxine. Dr. Boz never talks about this. I have heart valve leakage causing edema and thyroid nodules that Endocrine doc says remove and the ENT surgeon says no, my doctors don't believe in fasting, GI doc says its dangerous without any explanation, to just keep taking PPI for acid reflux and a low calorie diet, primary care is silent on keto and fasting,. But they keep raising and increasing my medications. The treatment for edema? Wear compression socks. My cardiologist says I'm stable no other advice other than keep taking blood pressure meds. I have multiple specialists and not one has any treatment for weight loss except low calorie diet, higher doses of medications, don't fast because it's dangerous, no comment on low carb diet, keto, just follow the American diet pyramid and exercise. No keto, no fasting because its dangerous. I'm on Medicaid, I don't have a choice in doctors.

    I think your ideas are quite dangerous, all these big changes are not good for the body. You are oversimplifying everything and misunderstanding a lot. Whatever people like you advocate, fat people are going want to go that little big further for quicker results. Americans have a history of fast everything, "shoot first ask questions afterwards", "a fast buck", "fast food", etc. I say think first and take your time. If it takes 10 years to put the weight on don't try to lose it in 10 minutes.
