I absolutely adore Jin-Roh. For anyone curious about why the Kerboos suits look familiar it's because they have inspired a lot of media including video games and movies like Sucker Punch, Wolfenstein and the Killzone games (plenty more examples out there to be had). Besides Berserk this is probably the second most influential anime of all time in terms of being referenced in pop culture media.

They really used to go the extra mile back in the day, I mean I know everyone knows akira but look how well the animation flows and its easily comparable to some modern animation, so cool!

That scene in the sewer when he (spoiler) reveals “who he truly is” and equips his armor, mask, and gun- when I first watched it I was 100% sure he was just going to gun her down with that machine gun. I kind of think I was meant to believe he would- by this point his character learned his lesson about hesitation, and would now carry out all orders. That’s when I decided I liked this movie, and that’s also when I realized the ending was going to be a huge bummer.

Jin Roh takes place in an alternate world where Japan joined the allies, but the Axis forces won WW2.

Jin-Roh is the epitome of Japanese hand drawn animation in all aspects: Narrative, direction, characters, pacing, visuals and most of all the unique coloration that is more like painting (as in the "Zorn pallet" of very subdued minor key lighting/coloration). Most all animation relies on bright major key lighting and coloration that makes following the story & characters easy. Minor key lighting and coloration is about modes and emotions as subjective feelings shift and are not defined in the simplistic sense. The "Zorn pallet" (associated with the Swedish painter Anders Zorn) limits coloration so that skin tones dominate with mode creating dark tones that allow the viewer to enter into the mysterious visual realms of subjective feeling. This is a rare event in the history of animation!

I first watched this movie in 2016 following douchebagchocolat’s (we miss you) review. Great movie, amazing art and animation. But just like Akira I believe its biggest flaw is that as a viewer you cannot really relate or feel for the characters. Also the ending is great.

Hey dawg, long time viewer. Gotta say…this is probably your worst video so far. You didn’t say shit about the movie. You just called it whatever the hell & moved on. Stuff like that is kinda what is holding your content back. I think you could be a SUPER successful youtuber, but you’ve gotta go deeper, my guy. Talk about what happens here & your personal, specific takes on it. Any seinen manga/anime fan that’s been on the block for even a femtosecond knows about Jin-Roh; Demolition D did a video on it the better half of a decade ago that is much more fleshed out than this, and many more have followed suit & gone even further. Don’t bang out this stuff & just dip. I believe in you, brother. Just say what you’re really thinking, put some soul into it, and let’s listen to you. I know you have it in you.
    Much love.

I appreciate the constructive comment, truly. Truthfully though, I didn’t go in depth because I honestly don’t know anything about the property besides this movie that I only just watched. I also try not to get into spoilers for these videos because I make them more as a recommendation. I save the longer more in depth vids for subjects and properties I feel more confident speaking on like Berserk, Vinland, Vagabond, ect. But I will try to expand more when I watch new things too. Thank you
