meanwhile lumber compaines can make a road across streams, clear cut all the land and not required to install any erosion control, though some actually do, especially around spring heads, but still, all the top soil washes away and the land becomes barren and desolate

@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser before 2008 I worked for a land surveying company doing erosion control plans, road design, and subdivision plans, then cam oblowme and passed so many regulations that there was no way to comply, just the paperwork involved increased to 3 24x36 pages of required information, no way to even put a price on that, and then the market crashed and I was unemployed, something has to change, heavy pans brother man, still love watching your show

Im in WA also last year a "game warden" questioned me and I started spitting law at him and he quickly let me be on my way. He didn't know any of the law😂

I’ve just started panning. Haven’t found much of anything. I think I have too much flow in my sluice so may change some stuff around. Not sure I am digging in the right spots but it seems right. After bedrock where the water would swirl.
Michael! Welcome to prospecting! Just keep trying and asking those questions. It’s how we learn. I’ll be putting some really good videos out these next few weeks so make sure and stand by and see them. There’s one you definitely don’t want to miss (March 29th). What kind of sluice are you using? And I completely agree with spots looking right but having no gold. That happens more often than not. Sometimes you have to try somewhere new and give it a shot. I’ve found good where it shouldn’t be. Gold is always where you find it, not where you sometimes think it is. @@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Sluice Fox is what I am using. It's light, so easy to get in and out. Actually getting in and out has been a bit of a learning experience as well. Added a backpack after the first time. The sluice fits inside along with just about everything else. Have to figure out what to do with the classifiers, but will probably use some sort of cord to the backpack. They don't stack neatly, so they are bulky to try and carry them and buckets in one hand, so you have to make multiple trips.
I'll be 58 in May and had kidney cancer last year so I am way, way out of shape. But getting out is actually helping. So that's good.
@mbraden66 First off, im so glad you are doing better! Cancer is no joke and it’s good that you are getting out and moving around. Good for the body and mind.
As for your equipment. This is probably the hardest part of prospecting. I’ve tried so many different pieces when I first got in and wasted so much money. After years of panning, playing and trying, I’ve finally come up with my core list of equipment. I made a video about it a few months back listing my top 10 pieces. If you haven’t checked it out, give it a shot. I wish I had that info when I first started.
Having said that, do what makes you comfortable and as long as you’re having fun… that’s all that matters. I’m no professional but I just hope my trials and tribulations through the years, help people not make the same mistakes I did.
I think my biggest mistake was my sluice. I used my Keene for ever, but as soon as I started using Dream Mat, I fell in love and will never use anything else. The simplicity and ease of use of bar none the best and the recovery rates are astounding.
Anyhow, I’m just glad you’re back up and running! Now it’s nature turn to reward you and help you heal!
@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Thanks, I am down in Vancouver. There is a place in Beaverton, OR I went to which had a multi level sluice which I purchased for home. This allows me to classify, run the dirt through the sluice on the river then bring the clean up home and run it through the one at the house. Which is set up at the right flow, angles, etc. It also allows me just to go fill up a bucket and bring it home if I wanted to.
When we got down to the river last weekend and I was pulling the stuff out of the backpack I was trying to figure out what was making the top flap pocket so heavy. I opened it up and had 8 or so waterproof glove sets in there. I forgot to take them out. I wanted them in the car, but not down at the river.
There are other things like a hiking stick set. My wife and I only use one of each so going to leave the 2nd ones in the car. Little things like that. The grade down to the river is pretty steep.
@mbraden66 sounds good Michael! I always over pack as well and by the time I get to my spot, I’m like, why the heck did I bring this with me. lol. Happens to all of us. Like I said, whatever gets you out and enjoying the hobby is good with me!!! I hope you find a big ole nugget here soon. I’m still on the hunt for mine :) I feel this is the year!

Just go far enough out where they won’t go. In my experience, most of them don’t like to have to walk very far from their truck.

@brainretardant oh really?!?! That would be quite the encounter. So yea, I’ve actually been to Waddell creek a bunch of times, but I heard it’s closed down. BUT…. My creek comes from the same head waters as Waddell so it has the same gold. So I know exactly what you’re saying. The gold is here. I just need to better pinpoint it. If the rules weren’t so stringent, I would of been on it more by now
