It’s not uncommon for a woodworker to own two or three different cordless drills, plus various other power tools. And that’s the inspiration behind this cordless drill charging station. This wall-mounted organizer has room for up to four cordless drills or drivers, as well as two or three chargers. A pair of drawers provides storage for drill bits and other accessories. And the top of the drawer unit serves as a shelf for extra batteries or other tools. Of course, drills aren’t the only cordless tools you’ll find in a woodshop. So we’ve included plans for a matching shelf.

Its very nice but who in the heck has all those Pro machines in their garage? Most of us have very basic saws and drills. Would prefer to just buy this done and install it.

Why does everyone of these I see have the drawers at eye level, and the drawers above. I’d flip it and have the drills and drivers on top. Write on the back of the handle what they are and they can be up at 6-ft. , and the drawers down at four feet, where you can see what’s in there. And, since nearly all manufacturers now have slide in batteries, and all the chargers have keyholes in the back to mount them.
So, why not mount the chargers to the back, and then have a shelf below that. And a couple of drawers below the shelf to hold charged and discharged batteries. That way you have a place to store the charged ones ready to go, and teh discharged ones waiting to be recharged.

Yeah, I thought that too and built one that way. I cussed it for a few weeks and then tore it apart to build one more like the one in this video, 'cept it holds more drills.
Mount it as high or low as pleases you, but after moving my finished version a couple of times I settled on positioning the drill holder shelf in the same plane as the adjacent wall cabinet (typical kitchen wall cabinet height). This puts the drill handles in the otherwise wasted "shadow" space above the bench top below with the handles hanging under. The top of the drawer housing is in the same plane as the top of my miter saw dust hood which is adjacent on the other side. I allowed about 3-1/2" clearance for the drill bodies under the front edge of the charger shelf. My drawers are actually tills and deeper than the ones in this design. I pull them out and set them on the counter if I need to rummage through them.
Point however, is that while putting the drawers low seems like a good idea, it didn't work well. Like many ideas that seem pretty good in our imagination, it turns out that there is a practical reason why the drills are on the bottom and the drawers are on the top with the chargers sandwiched in the middle, the arrangement is just more efficient.

You make some interesting points to consider. I've found that these drawers are so shallow that it isn't like you can slide them out a little to look inside. I just take the little drawers out and set them on my bench or take them with me and then put them back when I'm done, and I usually just store my charged batteries on top of the drawer case up and out of the way.

Those are good ideas. I also was underwhelmed by the videos on RUclips and images of builds like this. I chose to look I to this one simply because it was a smaller version and I don't think most DIY home handyman have 12 different drills at the ready. Anyway please make a build video of your ideas so I can copy it. Haha! Sorry too lazy to draw up the plans myself.
