Great that you wanted one again, and it looks like a good one. One small thing … it’s not “hub centre steering”, but It’s essentially more like a car front wheel double wishbone set up, turned through 90°, with a single sided lower wishbone, so that the wheel can turn within it.

My last bike was a 90s Honda blackbird. I loved that bike and had zero problems with it apart from a battery going tits up while I was on a ride. Would have another one if I didn’t have to hump it up a flight of steps to get out of the yard lol

This is the best way to take delivery of any bike which is road legal. No matter the age or the distance to be travelled. Getting it couriered costs a fortune compared to a train ticket and a tank of fuel, and by riding it you immediately get to bond with the new bike on an adventure, as well as teasing out any issues which will need resolving. That's an unusual machine but a bargain at the price you paid, I hope you enjoy many more miles on it.

I also embarked on a similar quest as yourself and flew from Birmingham to Belfast then on to my native Derry to purchase my first love, an XRV750 Africa Twin. That’s interesting, I parted with my last one after test riding a Multistrada. It felt like a dinosaur after coming off a brand new bike. My riding style has changed a lot since then. I still enjoy the odd mad blast on the Africa Twin with my mates, but I’m really enjoying dawdling about on my own on smaller/rawer bikes just as much now. A good pal has a Blackbird. I must twist has arm for a shot. 👍
Cheers Tom, thanks for the sub. Aye, they've built some odd bikes. TDM850 was a departure, but now a mainstream configuration. Was always astonished by the SZR660, and fell in love with the SDR200. All really unusual bikes in their own way too.
Looks like a great buy, so many less fashionable Japanese bikes are turning up for pocket money now and are actually really good bikes, even by today's standards.

Thanks Gillian, I use a Scorpion ExoTech flip front helmet. It flips right over to the back, so I wear it as a proper open face helmet, it has a sun visor, the vents are very good. On the downside, it is very noisy on the motorway, I have to use earplugs if I am going to be spending any time on the motorway
Excellent trip - I did similar thing last year training it up to north of Inverness to collect Aprilia and ride it home 500 miles which was bang on and got me home safely. Love bikes from this era, despite having new machines too. Love a good road trip. Hope the GTS is all well, strangely its slid onto my radar too 😮 ps nice touch doing Clifton bridge - an "old mate" of mine 🙂 . No gloves on the M5 !!! 😮😮

The front end looks very unusual, is that a swinging arm on the front wheel 🤔😯 You certainly chose a great route for your ride home and as usual your editing skills are well apparent. Up till now mine has been done on my phone, it's about to get a long overdue boost from a new laptop with singing performance 👍😀

I was admiring one of these at the recent Stafford Classic Bike Show. Very unusual hub centre steering, you don't see many about. First vid of yours I've seen and watched it all the way through, which says something that you've made an entertaining film. Can just imagine what my Mrs would say if I was bidding on a bike at the other end of the country 😂 Saying that it looks a good buy.

The motorway sections aside, I was on and off the bike within minutes starting/stopping cameras. It’s a poor excuse! I’ve noticed Itchy Boots is always super careful to not be caught without gloves, and she’s on the cameras all the time. Something for me to try resolve in future videos. 👍
I got mine about 10 years ago from a bike dealer 400 kms away. I rode my old GL1200 Gold Wing, traded her in on the GTS and rode back home on the same day. The GTS had just ticked over 100,000kms. She's been going strong ever since. She's a quality built product alright. I notice the mirrors on yours are not standard. The original mirrors just give you a look at your elbows. Any idea where your mirrors came from ?
@samfields6887 There's a huge satisfaction gained from a long term ownership like that. The chap I bought it from couldn't remember the source of the mirrors, other than they were not model specific aftermarket parts that he modified. They might ever have been car mirrors. He did supply a pair of mirrors (that need paint) but where I keep the bike has quite narrow access, so these work well for my needs just now. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

Cheers Jamie, I use a GoPro Hero 7 black on my helmet and handlebars, and a Insta 360 X2 for various auxilary shots. Sometimes hard mounted on the bike, sometimes on a selfie stick. You get nice special shots using the 360, but I find it a pain in the ass to process into an MP4 before editing into the film. I only use it sparingly. Couldn’t use it as my only camera. Thanks Alien, I’m actually quite embarrassed about that. Too many excuses, but that’s what they are excuses. It was mid summer, I was on and off the bike within minutes setting up those shots. It’s something I will be more careful to not do on future films as other established creators seem to manage.

@@soggybawsmoto I went from a GoPro 7 to an 11. I looked at the 360 for the shots you can get but I felt safe with a GoPro! 🤣👍

Thanks Alien, I’m actually quite embarrassed about that. Too many excuses, but that’s what they are excuses. It was mid summer, I was on and off the bike within minutes setting up those shots.
It’s something I will be more careful to not do on future films as other established creators seem to manage.
