I think MOD should demand from the Contractor a full explanation of why another propellor shaft has failed this is quite urgent and not to mention the cost of the repair
Great video again. It is very interesting to see the enormous dimensions of the ship and also its details thanks to the zoom. As well as some members of the crew. For those passionate about the military world like me, these types of publications are a real pleasure. Thanks a lot. Greetings from Spain.
I spent a day on Hms Ark Royal in April 1989, she was docked in Gibraltar. Im walking around it by myself losing my way just trying to get to the flight deck. It felt like she was huge. Hms Queen Elizabeth is 3 times as big and that blows my mind.
I used to volunteer on a WW2 era American aircraft carrier and it was " Only" around 40,000 tons. I got lost on it all the time until I got familiar with it. The problem is that everything looks the same on these things. One room after another filled with valves, pipes, controls and wiring. We were always told to "go up" if we got lost because you would eventually make it to the hanger deck where you could easily make your way to an exit. The newest carriers are now at 110,000 tons. I can't imagine that as the one I volunteered on seemed gigantic.
@setharp It's quite amazing isn't it. American carriers are so impressive, right through history. Hms Queen Elizabeth is on her way to Rosyth dockyard from Portsmouth as I write this(problem with her shaft, which needs a dry dock for a fix). I live in a place called Dalgety Bay, which is close to Rosyth. I'm hoping to be on the Forth road bridge with my kids as she passes under(probably very soon). Nb: She can only go under the bridge at low tide. Also, she has to fold a piece of mast to fit safely under as well.(designed knowing this).🤷♂️
Can't we ever get anything right for the first time these days. Next it will have a permanent Ocean Going Tug in attendance, just like the Russian Carrier. What a state of affairs with 2 brand new carriers always in for repair.
They only actually deployed on the ship once, no idea why this keeps getting repeated in the comments years later. Her sister ship is currently deployed with a squadron of UK F-35s in the arctic.
Repairs AGAIN , both of these ships are a joke . I think the excuse of 'Teething problems' is well and truelly worn out at this stage . Shoddy design , shoddy construction and shoddy quality control springs to my mind.
BOTH AIRCRAFT CARRIERS HAVE NOW HAD PROPELLER AND SHAFT PROBLEMS . WITH THE BUILDING, AND REPAIR TO BOTH MUST BE ABOUT 7 BILLION IN TOTAL. WHAT AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACEFUL WASTE OF MONEY. BETTER TO HAVE BUILT NUCLEAR POWER STATIONS SO WE CAN HAVE CHEAPER, INDEPENDENT ENERGY . AND NOT BE RELIANT ON THE FRENCH.
I feel like people keep stating this simply because they only hear about the issues with these carriers in the news. Bare in mind the tabloids went on a frenzy about a leak that was so minor your average home fish tank pump could move more water.
Defective components on the propellor shaft(s). They are too large to be fabricated in a single component, so several elements are connected by universal joints. The joints have excessive wear, either because they were defective or have been installed incorrectly. Unfortunately, it is repair that requires a dry dock, and there is no dry dock with the required capabilities closer than Rosyth. I think that she is due maintenance, so they may combine the repair and maintenance activities. I was onboard a couple years ago and was amazed by how much some superficial fittings had corroded on what is a new ship. It served as a reminder of how hostile the sea salt is for ships.
It's an error with the tracking. A lot of apps keep showing in odd places such as Jersey, which I had the other day. Photos confirm that HMS Queen Elizabeth is in Glen Mallen today unloading ammo, and they had a fire onboard.
How much did this cost and it needs repairing already what a waste when there's so many people struggling to put food on the tables in this country. Why do we need 2 aircraft carriers. Especially when they need repairs so often. Sell one of them. And build new hospitals
You've just explained why two are needed, her sister ship was able to take over her duties when she had issues. Even if they both ran perfectly, they need extensive maintenance, refits and training. If you have one carrier it's as good as having no carrier most of the time. Usually the rule is at least 3 so that one is always available for deployment, so two is already cutting it fine.

It would be cheaper to buy a second hand boat from some other country. They spent million’s building this boat and now million’s repairing it, it hasn’t been to sea for any period yet has it. Russia and even tiny places like Yemen are just laughing at us.
Both ships have been on multiple deployments, including to the arctic circle, the south china sea, the US among many more. The problem is you only hear about issues in the news, because that gets clicks. It also pays for them to over exaggerate this stuff, like when a leak so minor the pump for your fishtank at home could have moved more water, but apparently the thing was sinking. Look at the US, they build more carriers than anyone, their latest cost twice as much as these, and they had so many issues it took years to have it ready, and they're still having many reliability issues. That's just how these huge complex ships are, you can't build a prototype to test everything. It's a real shame that people are cheering on the idea of getting rid of the skills the UK has built up over many decades. There are very few countries who operate aircraft carriers, and fewer who can build them. The UK is at the cutting edge of STOVL aircraft carrier design.
WarShips breaking down or reversing into each other😡 Submarines that can’t fire missiles 😡 I don’t think it’s Wise to be Goading Russia if these ships are our Finest😪
What a huge waste if money and resources those carriers are. About like the Russian carrier. Need a tug with them every time they're deployed. Totally outdated and sitting ducks in a drone era. The navy doesn't have enough crew or enough vessels to form proper protective cover. What that money could have done elsewhere in any of the forces. The annual running costs could have covered A decent pay rise all round and improve recruitment.
GREAT, Right when UK Needs its Defenses, however Woke they are ! The Big Boy of the navy is OUT OF COMMISSION ? Where is NORMAN WISDOM A Script written for him ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It's a coupler on one of the starboard propshafts that has failed. The propshaft is a 3 section shaft.
give it to Fincantieri, they will fix it! the UK has no more competitive shipyards!
CHEAP LOW GRADE CHIINESE STEEL ??

This is the late 70's early 80's with HMS Invincible all over again. Heavy agricultural engineering on large warships always wins the day..
Awesome video.
Thank you so much for sharing.✌️
HMS Sicknote off to see the doctor again. What an asset she's turned out to be. And her sister ship, HMS White Elephant.
Another white elephant like hs2; politisons getting butt hurt at the tax payers expense 😢😢😢😮😮😮😮

Here's to hoping the British government paid for the extended warranty on these garage queens. 🤔
it hurts to see the British, once a maritime empire not even a century ago, now in trouble to fix this aircraft carrier
Only garenteed for one mile out and not in salt water 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮

They must stop bending bits of this ship 😅
Would have thought the carrier would have a guaranteed warranty on this propeller business
Amazing costs! With a life expectancy of minutes in any theatre of war --why does Britain continue with this crazy expense?
They should've built those 2 carriers at Harland and Wolff, Belfast = one of the best shipyards in the world.

That is as good as it gets.😂😂😂
Well it doesn’t matter because you’ll learn your lesson with cats and traps one day in bad bad weather 🤣
Spend more time in for repairs than they do at sea, and even when at sea never have a full complement of aircraft
I feel like people keep stating this simply because they only hear about the issues with these carriers in the news.

@@glynnwright1699 Yes HMS Queen Elizabeth took over a lot of duties of HMS Prince of Wales when it broke down.
Need repainting soon with all that water 😢😢😢😢😢😢
If she was going to Scotland for repair, why is she now berthed in Brest? (That's France)

Under own steam, but the tugs are there to guide if needed.
