Jimi Hendrix - Red House - Guitar (SOLO) Lesson #7 with Chelsea Constable

- Hello everyone, I hope you enjoy this guitar lesson of "Red House". The lesson is played live with a backing track that I created. I played the bass and the drums were played by an awesome drummer Mr. Steve DiVirgilio - thanks (great job Steve)! The amps used were the Marshall 2005 handwired 1959 100 Watt Plexi (on camera). The other amp (off camera) was a Marshall JCM 900 SL-X 100 Watt (bone stock - this is one of my many favorite Marshall's.....I have several of these). I used a Keeley Framptone amp switcher to run both amps at the same time. The cabs used (on camera) is a 1960AHW, it's loaded with reissue Celestion G12H-30 speakers (awesome - this one of my favorite Celestion Speakers)! The other cab (off camera) is a Marshall bottom cab loaded with Celestion G12M Heritage (my all time favorite speaker). The Mics used are a Heil PR30 and PR40 (I use these Mics exclusively in this combination for all my recordings...(the quality of the Heil is exceptional)! The gain is the amps themselves (actually not a lot). There is a Orbit Electronix completely reworked Echoplex on the whole solo for a slight echoing effect, then during the solo I kicked on a Keeley modded DD-3 for more delay. The guitar is a 1997 Gibson Les Paul Custom loaded with DiMarzio 36th Anniversary PAF pickups (one of my favorite DiMarzio's). Strings used are GHS Electric Burnished Pure Nickel Roundwound Gauge (10-46). I use Accusound Cables, Peterson Tuners, Essential Sound Products power cables, AF Designs Straps and last, but not least, which is also very important, I use a Dunlop ULTEX Sharp .90 pick. I truly hope this info helps just in case someone likes and wants to achieve this tone. Thanks for watching!

Chelsea, your lessons are the best! No "first finger, third string, second fret..." Just pure playing, at a reasonable, discernable tempo, with excellent videography. Finally, your thorough and detailed rig rundown completes the picture so that any intermediate level guitarist, with practice and perseverance, can advance to be (or at least sound like) a pro. Thank you!
This was a fabulous lesson. I've worked on this song for years and cannot achieve the touch (or speed for that matter) to make it sound like you do, with so little effort. So many talented people like yourself take this "touch" for granted. I doubt any lesson can teach it, but you display it perfectly.
this girl can play. damn
The best no-nonsense 'how-to' on the tube ... pls don't change a thing Chelsea, esp. that deadpan southern drawl ... evokes river mist over the delta
Peter WARD agreed!! Play it, show it. Love it. Well done
Agreed... but maybe turn the reverb and delay down a bit, ha ha. Seriously, though, best lesson on this site for this song.
i guess it's kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good site to watch new series online?
@Frederick Nixon I use flixzone. Just google for it =)
@Christopher Kylen Definitely, been using flixzone for months myself :)
Wow! I thought just for the heck of it I'd check out what "Chelsea Constable" has to say about Red House. It only took two seconds of playing for me to realize that you have awesome chops and as good or better an ear for Hendrix as anyone I've come across on youtube, and your instruction is clear and tight. Best Hendrix video I've seen! You're going to break the hearts of a lot of lesser expounders.
paul harris - Once again - thanks so much for the kind words! I truly do love all styles of music. I try to find something that I like and could possibly use when just jamming or writing my own tunes. I also recommend playing by ear....I think it helps when trying to play like another player.
+Chelsea Constable So right on that Chelsea... never understand the "make it your own crowd" (as a put down of note for note playing of the classics). I'm a late learner (as far as lead guitar goes) and there is NOTHING like "getting into the head of a legend" musically to grow as a musician (although, based on your playing, you may not have much room for any more growth... lol)!
Oh, and thank you for this one... perfect!

Hi Chelsea,
My name is Dennis Dullea AKA "Rev. Muddy" on you tube. I am from Fort Worth/Dallas and grew up in the 60's and 70's with Stevie Vaughan, Bugs Henderson, Etc. Etc. Anyway my point is to tell you that I saw Jimi three times, Twice in Fort Worth at Will Rogers coliseum and one time I got to shake his hand and speak to him backstage in July of 1970 in San Antonio.
I have to tell you that you are truly a gifted Guitarist, and your interpretations of Jimi's music (especially this Red House Solo) are no less than amazing. You are a really welcome gift to all of us old curmudgeons from the 60's. God Bless You, and keep on rocking! Dennis Dullea (Rev. Muddy)
+Marshall Gibson
Amen Rev... well said!
BTW... your comments would apply to your playing as well.
I have just become a Chelsea Constable fan, I love your style of playing, I know that you must work so hard to get that good but you really do make it look so natural. As mature learner I find you an inspiration
I can't tell you how many people I've shared your previous videos with - absolute monster playing! Wish I could pull of a quarter of this stuff; kudos!
Scott Lester - Thanks so much for your kindness! I really appreciate positive feedback! Again, thanks!
Hello Chelsea, i’m so glad i found you, even though it’s so many years after you released this video, nevertheless this video is as fresh as the first day you recorded it. This Hendrix song is so timeless. Jimi created so many rare genres like machine gun molly and Dolly Dagger Dolfins, but when it came to the blues, Jimi could show all the old grand pops of the blues that he was and is still the master magician, and you Chelsea are also just that, with all those finger glisses, pauses, slides and glides, your fingers just dance all over the fretboard. I wish i had a no-nonsense teacher like you when i was learning. With your serious constable like looks and your firm voice, i’d never return to class until i got that piece down good. But jokes aside, you are new to me but will always stay my favourite. Oh and that Tennessee twang is so awesome.
Just brilliant no nonsense lesson - so much to work on. Your vibrato is to die for!! Thanks!!!
Wow, I bet your STUDENTS love you. Your a Great Teacher!!! You have some strong left hand techniques, a Really strong pinky finger. I am Impressed. God Bless You.
This is by far my favorite in Chelsea's lesson series. Chelsea plays is impeccably well. Well done.
Just come upon you after going thru loads of people doing it with no soul. You'z got it more x's than all the others. Beautiful
I absolutely love this series. It is really great to hear a great player playing through meticulously crafted tone...and explaining how it was achieved. Many thanks to all those wonderful equipment folks that contributed to the sound as well. Also you always break the riffs down at just the right granularity.
Chelsea, that was excellent especially on that all mahogany Les Paul Custom.....Perfect. THANK YOU
Jimi would be proud!!! Much love for keeping his spirit alive! 💙
Excellent, natural and clean .
Outstanding...probably the best structure of video tutorial as I've seen, and, your an excellent guitar player as well...Thank you
You are the Best of them all. You where the only one to capture the spirit and soul of Jimi. WOW can you play! Thank you.
you're just one hell of a great player and teacher. Hendrix and all the other guitar slingers' riffs that you teach is just amazing.
Chelsea, that was totally awesome!!! Thank you so much for such a faithful rendition of one of my favorite Henrdix songs! Thanks especially for the detailed run down of the gear you are using! You are now my favorite RUclips guitar hero! Please, please, please, keep your videos coming! Your Eric Clapton Crossroads instruction was also the most faithful rendition I've heard yet! Awesome! More please!
Spot on!
This is simply outstanding. It's perfect. But, more, the tone is just awesome. Thank you. Please keep up the excellent work.
Fabulous playing and lesson. Just discovered your channel and enjoying your videos very much. Thanks!
Wow, love that Southern accent! Fiddle-de-dee! Seriously, first female guitar teacher online. 😎🎸
OMG you nailed it. I have listened to the album cut so many times that I can tell when someone isn’t doing it like Jimi & frankly I don’t like that. I’m not a good player but I can learn this from your video. Thank you so much! 👍☮️🌞🎸
What has me amazed is all the talent here on RUclips. I searched your name on iTunes and came up with nothing. I don’t know I suppose it is just the ambition in me but I’m seeing dollar signs all over the place. For the past year or so I have been reading everything I can find about Rock & Roll and Rock & Roll Bands. Lately I’ve been looking at more of your RUclips postings and I have yet to see something you’ve written first. I’m a course gambling man so I’d wager that you have a fortune of songs you composed just waiting to be released to the public. You are a very talented, smart, charismatic beauty. I just hope I’m still alive when your compositions become known to the billions ‘hopefully’. That they are public now where can I hear them? You are a very special and enjoyable blessing! Thank you for taking the time to help those of us that share your interests in music learn how to play some of the songs we enjoy too.
AmericanIsraeliJew - Hello and thanks for the kind words! I'm currently working on original music. It's taking some time because I'm funding my own project (writing, recording, publishing etc). Again, thanks!
Great job, I grew up in the Hendrix era. I played, Manic Depression, Hey Joe and Foxy Lady.Never concord Red House. Again great job, Love the Les Paul
Beautiful tone and playing...respect!
Chelsea you're the best i've heard doing this version of jimi Hendrix"s Red House..thank you.
Chelsea, thank you for this. Going back to my roots it's a blessing to have a classic solo like this precisely laid out. I also like how efficient you are in your instruction. eliminating the meticulous banter 'this is the 12th fret A string…blah blah. Great stuff for guitar players who aren't beginners, and yet even beginners can get it. I've seen a bluegrass piece you have and was blown away. You are truly gifted!
Real nice ! I hope you feature more Hendrix, really nicely done ! Thanks again.
A big thank you; Chelsea, in taking the effort and the time in compiling a professional presentation. I enjoyed the learning experience. Bert Weedon - eat yer heart out. Hooroo - Mike
I can't even speak..OMG!!
You are absolutely incredible Miss Chelsea...
Love your ultra strong vibrato. I've been playing 36 years and have been working hard to develope a strong vibrato like that the entire time.
Thank you for the ass whipping everytime I see you play.
The best tutorial of red house i have seen here on youtube.
As 'Unknown Hinson' would say..."Womern, you a Nashville Super-Picker".
Not only are You a gifted Musician Chelsea, your detail in your rig setups are priceless. Thank You, and i wish You a Wonderful career obviously doing what You truly Love.
My new RUclips guitar hero! Your videos are best Chelsea! This should be the standard of how all instructional videos must be done!! To-the-point, all business and no yacking! I love this!! Killer playing as well \m/
I think I'm in love. Great lesson and right to the point no fluff.Wow. I got work to do.
Dam your amazing!!! Soooo glad I found you. I love your style of playing it reminds me of jimmy and your soooooo precise and to the point in your lesson, no talking no theory exactly what I needed to learn these riffs. Just amazing job amazing playing no beating around the bush and on a level I can accelerate and learn quickly. I think this may be a bit difficult for some but for me you hit the nail right on the head. And I really really appreciate the fact that I don’t have to sit thru a 25 min video to learn this riff at my level. Your so awesome thank you so much dude 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Because your name is Chelsea, I'm already a fan.
👏🏾👏🏽👏🏻
Good stuff. Well played.
Thanks for putting this together. Excellent job
As always, this video displays your amazing playing and tone and attention to detail on the songs you cover. What a fantastic video. This is absolutely perfect, just like the video(s) you posted on Randy Rhoads. Thanks and cheers! \m/
Wow.....wish I had discovered your videos years ago. Only other musicians will understand just how special you are.
Chelsea thank you so much for your great video lessons. Your timing and technique is so smooth and you do it effortlessly. The sound your fingers get out of any guitar you play is fabulous. Again thank you for your lessons and God speed. One song i would like to see you play is Down by the River, as played by the late great Roy Buchanan.
Once again you nailed it! You have a genuine gift! I love just about every version of Red House that Jimi ever recorded. My two favorites are this version, the American released studio version (which is a different take then the British released on "Are You Experienced." My other favorite version is the live version from "Hendrix In The West" which I believe was recorded at The Wintergarden Theater. I would love to see you do a part two to this lesson covering the solo intro and maybe a part three showing the licks in each verse. Keep up the fantastic work that you do!
EricCirca6566 ....Oh yeah, the Hendrix in the West version...my favourite.
Spot on. Thanks so much for this lesson.
Unbelievable, awesome..
Hello Chelsea,
I am french and i love this vidéo and this solo ....
No doubt ...Jimmy too
Thank you
Smile a bit. You play so clean. Your sound is exceptional. Please, make more videos. I really enjoy listening to your riffs.
Wow ! Glad I found these lessons. She can play !
Wow that's fantastic.....thanks for those licks, you nailed them!!!
I bought a 100 wt Marshall JMP in the late 70's when they came out with the master volume....later played 50 watt JMP's......my fave amps.
That was fantastic. I am really glad that you did that solo one of my all time favorites. Thanks for that. Hope you keep making beautiful music. Peace
Great playing thanks for posting this. Sweet gear love that lp custom.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!!
You are awesome! Thank you.
Thanks Chelsea for the lesson. You are awesome.
Amazing!
Dude! Finally someone understands that if a person is trying to learn more advanced guitar parts, they probably don't need the Barney style breakdowns. Strait to business.
Holly sheez, amazing!
You are wonderful! I love your lessons!
Simply wonderful. I'm a fan now.
wonderful. and helpful. thanks.
You nailed that! Feel like I need tabs with your vid. Struggling a lot but girl you can Play!!!!!! 👏 💪
WOW! Nice lesson!
wow ...I mean wow ....no words you owned that solo...
Fantastic playing.
wow, Jimi would be proud. Nice job!
Thanks, you showed me a few things I'll have to go back and add in.
Ridiculously great!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
for any one wondering how she can get such easy bends, check out stop tail piece. The strings are wrapped over tail piece, giving less tension on strings. You don't always have to go to a lighter string, because when you do you loose sustain and clarity.Chelsea I like the way you just play in sections without naming fret number and string, cuz that is so annoying.Love teachers like you.Keep up the good teachings and give us more.
OH MY GOD, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see more!
Brilliant thanks
wow!! fantastic!!
Awesome!
Respect!
A Les Paul and a vintage Marshall!
And obviously,a kick ass guitarist.
As always, brilliant guitar playing. It's a great solo, but I prefer the one in the UK release. For those who don't know, it's really worth listening to. :)
Really good. I liked that lightning fast, Riff #3. Better get my compression pedal out for that one. Hope all is well in 2021, as this incredible video was several years ago. All the best.
wonderful job !...love that les paul too !
Greetings all the way from Sydney and thank you for the lessons you put on. More power to you on your original music and hope you find time to release more "how to do the solo" videos.
Excellent.
This was perfect
Your playing looks so effortless!
You done Jimi and yourself proud.
Nice feel for the bends, best on youtube so far
Dope.....Certified Dope......thnx for the lesson :)
This is what happens when a gifted intelligent muscian learns difficult and eccentric pieces by gifted and eccentric virtuosos. And there are are plenty of otherwise gifted technical players that CAN'T learn this sort of stuff. I'd like to hear her own compositions and maybe they're floating around the Tube. Good stuff!
Holy cow! Yer gooood. Ver’ goood.
Freakin sweet!
Bravo!
Wasn't expecting that at all. You fucking nailed it.
THE JIMI HENDRIX SPIRIT
And she plays it with such ease.
well rehearsed effort ease i agree!
She finally smiled at the end, lol, great lesson 👍
I can tell you are very serious about music! You are one of the best guitarists I have heard (and your lil sis too). I'm so jealous...
Chelsea, you achieve incredible sustain, I love your perception and skills.
I first heard you playing acoustic with your sister(?) on a bluegrass tune and just tearin it up!
You are a wonderful player Chelsea - God Bless you and I hope to see much more of your talent in the future. I am subscribing now! ;-)
HI CHELSEA, I LIVE IN GUADALAJARA MEX.I LOVE BLUES AND I PLAY A LITTLE GUITAR, YOURE LESSONS ARE VERY GOOD. EXELENTLY EXPLICATIONS. EXCUSEME FOR MY BAD ENGLISH. I'M SURE YOUR LESSONS GOIN'TO HELP ME A LOT. THANKS AGAIN
Wow amazing
Hey Chelsea, can you do a lesson on your technique - especially your vibrato and tremelo picking? Your technique is amazing but you make it look effortless and sound so musical.
