    •Describe how the history of palliative care informs current views about palliative care at the MUHC.
    •Cite three key studies that shape our thinking about the value and role of palliative care in the lives of those affected by serious illness.

    Biosketch of Dr. Justin J Sanders,
    MD, MSc, Kappy and Eric M. Flanders Chair of Palliative Care:
    Dr. Justin Sanders is the Kappy and Eric M. Flanders Chair of Palliative Care, Director of the Division of Palliative Care at McGill University. He also directs the Division of Supportive and Palliative Care at the McGill University Health Centre. A family and palliative care physician and communication researcher, Dr. Sanders joined the Department of Family Medicine at McGill as an Associate Professor of Medicine in 2021, following 8 years at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and the Harvard Medical School. His research and teaching focus on promoting equity in serious illness care through promotion of high-quality communication and authentic healing relationships.
