Welcome to the God of War Boss Rankings! Over the next few weeks as we continue our God of War DeMod-a-Thon I'll be ranking the best and worst bosses in the God of War Franchise. We'll be ranking the bosses of God of War: Ascension, God of War: Chains of Olympus, God of War, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, God of War 2, God of War 3, and finally God of War 2018 for the PS4.

Shows chimera when talking about manticore at least the chimera is a unique enemy (unless you are in multiplayer ) the manticore is just a miniboss
I never really understood the hate towards Ascension, or Demod saying that the bosses in chains of Olympus are better, as much as I like chains, Ascension definitely had more elaborate and better bosses, to me anyway, and the fight with Alecto and Tisiphone was pretty cool I thought, and this is definitely the most human we see Kratos since it is 23 years before God of War 3 and he is less angry, still our lovable rage machine, but less so.

The story was just pointless. It added nothinf to the overall story of kratos
Amon __ It added some humanity to him, which he didn't have much of before, and it shows how Ares was originally planning to take out Olympus, but I understand your reasoning, because it is less important than most of the other games, but it is nice to see more of his humanity.
Tanky enemies, recycled enemies from past games, lack of enemy variety, obtuse puzzles that aren’t that fun to solve, weird difficultly spikes, lackluster story that didn’t really add anything to Kratos or the mythos, lackluster boss fights, dull repetitive combat, and unbalanced multiplayer.
J Man I can understand most of those complaints, but there was a lot of lore added thanks to the multiplayer. Also, I feel most of the bosses were pretty good, and there are enemies that are recycled in every game, minotaurs, Cyclopses, and gorgons, but I see your reasoning.
Handful of bosses.... Until GoW 2. That game was like "oh so you want more bosses? How about one every 15 minutes"

Your pick for the worst boss wasn't the Manticore, that was the Chimera. the Manticore is a shark-lion with bat wings

Was it because of the Camera? That's why I didn't like it at first. I stilled played it and it's fucking amazing. Espcially the soundtrack, Jesus Christ the soundtrack is awesome
It was just pointless. Story didnt add anything. Absolutely no point for it existing. It was just a way to put a game out while they still work on the actual next game.

Yep This game was Awesome my Revue of this game is 9.5 because i enjoyed this one combat and it was a step up in difficulty.

That aside, this was a rather interesting list. Ascension was a very 'huh' game at best, but then again, I didn't really play the SIngleplayer, but I DID play a lot of the Multiplayer, which was surprisingly fun before all the Jump+Triangle sword spam which killed the enjoyment of the many who didn't learn to counter it.
I'm glad I never used that technique myself. I tried it, and it was boring, and made even more boring by people who would use the Zeus sword which could fire lightning waves which ate your block, and anyone who used either would usually rage-quit if you never budged, countered them(You could counter the waves if you parried the sword itself), or landed a combo of your own with a spear or a hammer.
I personally really enjoyed the Spear of Ares and the Minotaur Hammer for their incredible combo potential. Juggling people was so fun.

Fiend Matador Slayer of a Thousand Noobs I know, right? Ascension’s campaign is kinda okay but its multiplayer was surprisingly fun. Although there’s not a lot to do, it was enjoyable to jump in and fight other people for a bit.
I think it’s something that could do with a return.

You mean combat-wise? Because you could get pretty damn long combos in Multiplayer with the right combinations and weapons. I remember picking low-damage weapons just to juggle people. It was rather funny.

Yo! Just started getting into the souls series with DS3 and fell in love, and then somehow was lucky enough to stumble upon your channel and the boss rankings. Ik I'm SUPER late to that party, but they're fucking amazing. Would you ever do a rankings series (for any game) of the worst boss run-ups/run backs (in order to get back to the boss after dying)?
The biggest issue that Pollux and castor had was that it feels largely uninteractive at times because the things you get hit by aren't well designed to be avoided or blocked strategically. That's probably due to the horrid block and Parry in this game.

Ascension is a great game. Probably the lowest in regards to rank, but it is still really good.
I'm replaying 1-3 first before GOW 2018 comes out...so excited

When we are speaking of God of war and boss rankings... the only viable conclusion I can come to is ranking the brutality of the *finishing moves* after you have done all normal rankings!!

I do like Ascension and how brutal the QTE finishers are to enemies and bosses. I just wanted a little more. And actually this game got the highest rating game of the year which congrats to it.
By the way you did a error there for the Manticore boss fight. You were fighting a Ice Chimera there.

Although the story mode wasn't very exciting to me, the MULTIPLAYER was freaking amazing. It truly was a awesome multiplayer choosing your own god. the combat and interactibles was satysifing, probably the best I've ever seen in that type of setting. I'm not joking it was fun, and I miss it.

The first boss is actually Himera, there's Manticore in this game on the same stage, the flying monster

That thing was the second most broken boss/sub boss in the game and on Titan, pure OP. The first is the "Basket Case" Time benders which on Titan felt harder than getting through The Trials of Archimedes without taking a hit.

Poor guy had to get infected at the end but it was really fun to me

You really sould mention the Manticore. When I played the game in the hardest difficulty Manticore kicked my butt more times than I remember. When I killed it, it felt SOOOO great.
Lastly you should also give an honourable mention to the 4 floor elevator that is near to the final battle. It is simply the HARDEST level in GoW History

Ascension was the only game in the series I never finished. Partially because I rented it, but partially because it was frankly so bad by comparison to prior entries that I couldn't be bothered to finish it.
I still remember how much I didn't like the fight with Alecto. Not necessarily because of it being bad (though it kind of is), but because the game glitched and I ended up fighting her for, like, over and hour before I realized I wasn't doing any damage to her. Booted the game back up and beat her in no time.
i enjoyed all of the god of war series, but my low mark of the series would be chains of olympus. it was a good story, but the gameplay was meh...

My only experience with this game is playing through about 80% of it(I think) on PlayStation Now. That wouldn’t be such a problem...if my house’s WiFi didn’t suck! I was dealing with slowdown, lag and hell, on a few occasions, the game even kicked me out of it from time to time(at least 4 times)! It was because of this game that I eventually canceled my PlayStation Now subscription.
GOW ascension was a great game to me and before you say anything I have played every single GOW game. This game had a good storyline but what made it great was the online multiplayer mode. Every body talks trash about the game but nobody ever mentions the multiplayer, that was the hidden gem in this game, I sunk some many hours into it and I'm pretty sure ppl are still playing it to this day. Lots of customization in character and abilities. If you are a GOW fan and you didn't play ascension online mode, you definitely missed out something amazing, a chance to make your god, a personal kratos. To add there where dlc contents for multiplayer that where free and great.
I,ll actually agree on the subject of Multiplayer for once.
It WAS good. A bit unbalanced, with easilly exploitable combos but it was fun when you finally did beat the cheapshots with a stylish combo of your own.

The first one is a Chimera because it has a Lion and goat head and a snake for a tail, while a Maniticore is a Lion with a scorpion tail and has giant bat wings
BTW the "Manticore" is a recycled elite enemy from GOW 3 with minor tweaks so you are actually fighting a reskin

As hated as Ascension was, I really liked the visuals. Even if the story was mediocre, or the battles were lackluster, it was still enjoyable since it all looked cool. Then again I last played this game when I was like 12 so in my mind “looks cool=cool game”
GOW Ascension may not be as great as the other main games in the series but it is still a stellar game. I beat it twice and enjoyed every minute of it.
I Don’t get the hate for this game, it’s a little short and I can see that it’s basically just a prequel of a prequel that we didn’t need, but it was still awesome all the same. The fights with Castor and Pollux, Magaera and Tisiphone, and the Hekatonkares are truly awesome fights.
I agree the bosses are actually really good but a lot of the areas are such a slog and are not at all fun to go through except the robot snakes that part was undeniably great.

Me personally, I don't really deem God of War Ascension to be the weakest God of War game. I personally deem the original one to be the weakest. It doesn't mean that I hate it, it's just I found the level design to be the absolute worst in the God of War series.
There were so many moments where I yelled in rage due to who shit the levels were, and how the game expected you to perform difficult feats.The Escape from Hades. All of the Trail of Hades, though namely the Balancing on the beams with the rotating blades and one hit will result in failing to your death. Swimming through a tunnel that will attempt to crush and skewer you if you don't get out fast enough. And while a minor moment, swinging across a large ditch on the Roads of Athens, in which the Rope can be invisible at certain angles. And those are just the main problems I had with the levels.

Ok, did I miss something or are there two different versions of GoW Ascension? Because I could swear that back in the day I played the game, the Manticore was a winged beast. The thing in the video was a Chimera as in GoW3.

What I hated about Ascension was the weapons. 1,2,3 you got various types, this one you just get little elements

Loved this game, I just finished it and got the platinum, but I do understand why it is considered the worst even though it has respectable scores. There’s no story until about halfway through and the it seems like they figured out what the story was, yet forgot to go back at the beginning and fill in the blanks. Sometimes that can happen when the writer(s) are afraid to tread over an already established story. That’s why canon prequels are so rare. I imagine the writers envisioned him in jail but not sure why, but eventually you have to go back and fill in the gaps, they didn’t do that, which led to so much confusing as to if I was in current time or in the past still. Could have been there was no financial room. Overall I give it an 8.2 out of 10. Solid effort, would have been improved by a clearer first act, stronger second act, but the third act is great.

Funnily enough, the multiplayer aspect of this game was better than the single player (the MP was still shit in many ways, but fun nontheless, sad that it died, but that was because of the horrible flaws).

The kingdom hearts games have great bosses that a pretty difficult on harder modes so check them out if you have the time

...That's a Chimera...not a Manticore. I mean admittedly I made that mistake in MY playthrough as well but...kind of had to fix that problem considering that the Manticore IS in the game...and it's probably one of the more annoying boss fights...

I resist buying and playing Ascension, It boast the best graphics a PS3 game could get but it is very disappointing that everything in the game is just mostly avarage. I have issues of GOW3's weapon selection being so stale and dont stand out, but Ascension sadly did not fixed the previous issues. And it is very evident that they cant wring out anything productive when making Ascension, from enemies, bosses, gameplay features and lore.
This is by far a stinker. It’s not a hard game by any means but it is spectacular in vision. Love this game.
The first boss is a chimera...
You should address that the enemies can interrupt you while being staggered. This was one of the most HORRIBLE mechanics change that they have ever made... You block and carefully position to do that big Square Square to do some crowd control and then the enemy being hit attacks you.... It would be ok If it was a higher ranking enemy (like Satyrs, Minotauros) but fucking trash mobs doing that.
