  • An exploration of the evidence for eye-witness accounts of cosmic disasters and the great cataclysms of our past, as contained in the scriptures, myths and legends from religions and cultures around the world. Are these tales nothing but imagination? Or do they have their roots in the cosmic disasters of the ice age?
Modern scientific evidence is challenging our understanding of the true history of civilization on this planet, and remarkably, showing some of the truth that is contained in these oldest of stories. What other truths might we uncover by closely examining these tales from the past?

I know that mixed up the prophecy of revelations with the supposed history of genesis - I should have mentioned this. I do see all those stories as essentially coming from the same place of human experience however - you have to have had some experience of cataclysm in order to imagine it, and I think the correlation with so many other religions in terms of how the world 'will end' shows that this has some roots in a shared human experience in the past. Thanks to everyone that has pointed this out!

I 100% agree with your thesis. The only nitpicking I can do is A) put forth that it wasn't a single cataclysmic event and it's consequencial sub-events. But rather a series of events that happened over the course of a few generations. Certainly a short period of time around 60 to 100 yrs give or take a few years. You have the main event and then subsequent events happening within human memory. By the time you get to the third generation it's legend. Any event is compared to and incorporated into the current. B) My other problem is the transcribing and later translations that occurred further blurring the truth. First of all is the transcribing. When we collectively decided to write this all down you have to consider the source which is the oral tradition. Stories have been passed down through the generations with the inevitable mash ups of the generations before. And dare I say it? Out right fabrications added to the narrative for whatever purpose of those doing the writing. It still goes on to this day.
So let's get to translation. There is exact and there is literal. The problem with an exact translation is this: While key concepts can be translated there are key words that can not. As with any language there are words that have many different meanings. Word drift and meaning comes to mind here. And that to is going on to this day. Imagine trying to decipher emogi's a hundred, or even a thousand years from now.
So let's combine a fallible transcribing with fallible translations with a biased observation. You end up with something completely different.

Ben, I live in Mindanao Philippines with my wife who is Higaonon. Her tribe have a legend that only one man listened to the creator Magbabaya and went to the top of the highest mountain in Bukidnon. When the great flood came, the water rose so much that only the very top of the mountain was not submerged. The amount above the flood was only the height of a stalk of lemongrass. In Higaonon Binukid language "lemongrass" is "tanglad". To this day, the mountain is called "Kitanglad". It is the second highest mountain in Mindanao, with only Mount Apo near Davao being taller. The story goes on to say that one woman also survived by clinging to a drum. The man and woman then went on to repopulate the land as the flood receded. What is interesting about this story is that there is no mention of the flood happening because the gods were unhappy with humans.

An extract from Book 3 of Plato's Laws echoes the theme of this channel perfectly:
Athenian: Do you consider that there is any truth in the ancient tales?
    Clinias: What tales?
Athenian: That the world of men has often been destroyed by floods, plagues, and many other things, in such a way that only a small portion of the human race has survived?
Clinias: Everyone would regard such accounts as perfectly credible.
Athenian: Come now, let us picture to ourselves one of the many catastrophes - namely, that which occurred once upon a time through the Deluge.
Clinias: And what are we to imagine about it?
Athenian: That the men who then escaped destruction must have been mostly herdsmen of the hills, scanty embers of the human race preserved somewhere on the mountain tops.
    Clinias: Evidently.
Athenian: Moreover, men of this kind must necessarily have been unskilled in the arts generally, and especially in such contrivances as men use against one another in cities for purposes of greed and rivalry and all the other villainies which they devise one against another.
    Clinias: It is certainly probable.
Athenian: Shall we assume that the cities situated in the plains and near the sea were totally destroyed at the time?
    Clinias: Let us assume it.
Athenian: And shall we say that all implements were lost, and that everything in the way of important arts or inventions that they may have had - whether concerned with politics or other sciences - perished at that time? For, supposing that things had remained all that time ordered just as they are now, how, my good sir, could anything new have ever been invented?

I’ve recently found this channel and initially thought “Oh great another all technology from ancient times came from aliens!” I was pleased to find I was wrong!! I am a design engineer of many years standing and I have had severe reservations as to how the beautiful statues of Egypt were made, to suggest they were made with bronze and stone tools just didn’t jive!! You don’t try to suggest what tools had been used as you have no idea what it could have been and there are no examples of such tools or parts of tools ever having been found. In every other time period examined by archeology tools or parts of tools have been found but in Egypt? Only the bronze and stone hammers which clearly could not have made many of the objects!! One of the biggest issues, as you state, with modern archeology and scientific study in general is that it is compartmented and there is little or no exchange of ideas between disciplines. Being a polymath is practically a dirty word!! I have always tried to expand my knowledge beyond my specific discipline, I enjoy learning and broadening my knowledge base. I look forward to seeing more of videos. Cheers mate!!

Oh but there is evidence of advanced electric tools all over ancient temples and pyramids in Egypt. The so called "tubular drill cores" that have been examined by quite a few engineers, which appear to have been cut using a high speed tubular drill that could cut granite. There is a video right on this channel called "the story of the mysterious and enigmatic tube drills". The statues of pharaos that are perfectly simmetrical as if they were carved by a CNC machine. The perfectly cilindrical gigantic columns of the old Egyptian temples that were clearly cut on some huge lathes. We can even see huge disk-shaped tool marks on some of the big cut stones. The evidence of advanced electric technology is right there "set in stone"...literally.
There have been many cycles of advanced civilizations on Earth and most of them had a high understanding of the sciences. Old Egypt was one of them.

I wish this could have been told and shown to me as a younger man , the religious beliefs have always been unsettling to me as a false tail , but this documentary has put things in perspective as I always knew the earth and its inhabitants have been here long before the time that they teach us at school , most would like to believe that their Lord or God made all and I'm unable to deny that as a possibility but once the religious leaders collaborated together on the tails of what we should or shouldn't be told it became to late to share the truth, but the earth has MORE to to tell those that look , if this was to happen again and it more than likely will have we made the best efforts to tell the story of the human race to the next surviving inhabitants. Perhaps we should write it in stone like they once did . This is the beginning to the real past history of civilization and the truth THANKS to you and your colleagues alongside all those studies that have been conducted. All so very interesting.

I spent 10 years in Afghanistan flying all over. Looking at the geography it always looked like a huge volume of water washer over everything. Then regular erosion happened on top of that. I also saw what looked like old foundations on large scale half buried under the initial deposit.
Flying through the mountains from Bagram to norther Afghanistan to Mazari-Sharif we would fly through the mountain passes. I saw on slopes greater than 45 degrees what looked like old roads, cross roads. Foundations and wells. No way to explain it. These were not cut into the side of the mountains but looked to be from a time when the ground was flat long ago. When your in Maziri-Sharif looking south

I was in the marine corps and a few of the pilots i knew who served in the mideast also claimed to see some similar features with what looked to be an initial flood under the stereotypical desert erosion. Ive been fascinated by this topic as well as the electric universe by thornhill. As lead by testla in the late 1800s, his study of electric fields, im sure, lead to people like thornhill taking that knowledge and really expanding on it creating the theory of how our universe is not sculpted by gravity but rather gravity being a product of the electrical fields of each body in the universe. Again, to me, i find that testla and theonhill are still only touching the surface of this electrical universe but their two sets of studies have allowed me to understand that many of the events spoken of in history and spoken of throughout mythos, the world over, the bible and many of the feats of engineering done by the previous civilization that existed before modern humans. Its even fairly possible to say with near certainty that earthlings at least two other times in our past had equal to or more advanced understanding of electricity, plasma, other by products of electricity.
The bible even talks about how jesus was trans configured on the mountain, or changed from his normal fleshy physical self to something more ethereal. Not to mention the very ones spoken of in this video. Electricity is the thing we need to understand if we are to understand god, space, the universe, etc...
Brother you have one hell of a video here. One that inspires a theory I've been working on for over 10 years. Im no scientist, or theologian. Im joe blow who works in the construction field and has since i was a boy. Im 38 now and ive been studying this topic since i was in jr high. The basis of my theory is the very explanation of what happened the last two times our planet was destroyed. Ive got a long way to go but in my process of gather info i find electricity is the base of our foundation as earthlings.

      1000%!
A deeper look at Nordic stories (once you strip away the christian over-tones) indicate that they observed younger dryas (and/or later) meteor STORMS, with possibly single fireball events. I suspect that the Jule blood sacrifices and rituals (hanging animal parts from trees in winter) might have sprung up from one of these events. I suspect it might have been a bolide event that ejected animal and humans through the air and deposited their remains in trees during a winter solstice. Star on top of the christmas tree, guts raining down the sides of the tree, many different animals and humans represented, etc. The Nordic version of the Bible flood.
Granted, what we know as "christmas trees" were introduced from Germanic introduction-like "the Wild Ride"- but those Jule traditions are Nordic. So much deeper than can be expressed in a comment section.
As my anthro professor would always tell me..."Hey, that would make a great research paper!" (I've still never worked out the funding mechanisms for all of those. Sigh)
Makes one really tetchy about cultural appropriation of Nordic heritage and Woke attempts to "cancel" it.

@Salvadore Orozco I don't forget ANY of this. And, perhaps you didn't notice...I happen to BE Scandinavian.
I've been studying this science for over 40 years. You?
Did you know that Zuni has Japanese ancestry? Probably not.
Did you know that England had static communities 9,000 years ago and those communities were NOT hunter-gatherers and implies the North Sea/Doggerland common cultures and influences are far more complex and contiguous than what is being taught? Definitely not.
Did you know that the native New Zealanders (not the Maori), have Peruvian, Persian, Native American, and Mexican DNA? AND they are blonde/red-headed, white skinned and green-eyed?
I have been fighting for factual archaeology since I told my professor that there was NO WAY I was going to plagiarize information for him. I pushed for expanded underwater archeology programs at a time when the field STILL believed there were no ice age cataclysms. That was my specialty. I personally knew the geologist who developed the GIS program FOR NASA (which he asked me to join because it never occurred to them to include an archaeologist) and convinced him to incorporate the technology TO INCLUDE archaeology because of the differences in Younger Dryas and modern geographies- i.e, they need to look under water for the truly ANCIENT societies and meteor scars. That was MY baby of influence-for which I paid dearly. You're welcome.
I had a friend who was at a dig, 35 years ago, in the San Raphael Swell who found red-headed mummies. They had to be K-Ar dated when the tests came back too old for C14. Do you know what that means? Let me explain: it means they were over 50,000 years old. Once those results came back, the dig was shut down and the Smiths took everything. Did YOU know that was how dogma research is done? No, you get your education from virtue-signalling movies, hyped-up new age gurus and fantasy games.
      That isn't helping.
It muddies the waters just as much as the industrial spin-meisters.
The archaeology IS there. There are archaeologists fighting for the facts to come out. All of them. Thankfully, there are more of us now than when I was in. However, just because I don't collect a paycheck from any institution doesn't mean I stopped my research for humanity's real past. It belongs to ALL of us- not the governments and industries and jumped-up cos players.
You and people like you need to stop the sensationalist, comic book knee-jerk, take it seriously, find your personal stake in this and support the real scientists who are still losing their jobs to the pay-check narrative, when they know for a fact there is more there that is actively being suppressed. Because we live on a planet and this crap is GOING to happen again.

There's a lot of interesting myths regarding incest, although icky, as the broken taboo separating modern humanity from the gods. With people living in sibs this could refer to a bottle neck in the population. An Athabascan and Eskimo legend Hinrich Johannes Rink describes as having very similar formulaic language in Greenlandish and Point Barrow versions describes the time when this occurred as a perpetual gray twilight and the characters becoming the feminine sun and masculine moon. May just be weird old stories, may preserve hints of a volcanic winter, who knows, interesting stuff all the same.

Impressive documentary! This is precisely what I’m thinking about for a long time. The theory that there were always humans around who had there own path progression is more plausible than the sudden uprise of ‘civilisation’. We are pushed in a way of thinking that makes us so narrow minded that it is a threat for our progression and knowledge. I believe that modern religions and other scientific believes are holding us back in that matter. We could be so much more advanced if we went another direction somewhat 2500 years ago. I hope soon there will be some very influential people or famous filmmakers will rise and document this as a ‘theory of the truth’. This could be a new era for us humanity if we are going to think different and more out of the box.

As an old man, I've watched the fight about cometary/meteoric impacts ebb and flow across the scientific consciousness ever since I first became enthralled by the idea that there was a means to understand our universe. That awakening would have been around 1956 and, I find it quaint, a series of books whose protagonist was Tom Swift. It wasn't long after I became aware of the inspirationally named "Meteor Crater", in Arizona. A quick look at the data available (In a library, of all places, thanks to those manual card catalogers) convinced me that the best thing to do with the whole idea was to become what we now call a survivalist or "prepper". If there was one that new, nearby, the odds couldn't be in my favor.
I didn't, of course, I had other worries like being drafted for the Vietnam 'conflict'. I've followed the scientific inquiry with interest, since. Science bumbles along, always has, until a 'eureka!' happens and then it leaps and sprints until a new wall is encountered. I've always believed the odds were skewed to favor a significant impact far more frequently than whatever value thought correct and have secretly and perversely been delighted when some new observation shattered the accepted calculations. My favorite of these was the surprise encounter with 'Oumuamua. All I could think was "Ah-ha! So there!"
The universe will always amaze and astound us with the new and unanticipated. I sincerely hope the next event isn't an unstoppable ice ball impact five years from now. Or maybe I selfishly wish it would let me be at ground zero... What a way to go!

I can not count how many times I have been given reason to re-read the New Testament in my academic years of Cultural Anthropology and Comparative Religions. Looking at Revelations with the eye you pointed at it was akin to an epiphany.
I was laughed at for some time about my beliefs that the Younger Dryas was brought on by extraterrestrial impacts. Graham Hancock's Fingerprints was like reading my own thoughts put into a more understandable order by someone else. And my favorite man in the educational world was and is Randall Carlson. GeoCosmic Rex is my go-to channel for pure educational pleasure. How does that fellow not have the numbers of what one would think of as the place of the profit? Well done! I came to this conclusion years ago after reading Acharya's S. (D.M. Murdock) books, then delving into the actual myths and Sumerian tablets. So many wonderful texts, myths...All saying similar things. Then add in all the similarities to megalithic structures, carvings and art there has to be a common thread of knowledge. It is very challenging for someone who is deeply entrenched in their own religion to be willing to read outside their beliefs. Once I saw the similarity in the stories it became clear to me there is not one belief, or god above all, but all are connected to tell a story of a world impacting event. Thanks for your enlightening videos. Keep them coming. The story needs to be told in its broader sense not just from one perspective.

I have followed your youtube presentations for a long time now and am always impressed by your thoughtful analysis of the world around us and it's history, myths and prehistory. I share your ideas about religious stories and other myths as being, to a great extent, metaphors for physical events. However, the "existential conundrum" you mention still seems to cause us to question the finality of "scientific" conclusions. 50 years ago my family experienced a bona fide personal "miracle" which made us realize that "something" knew about us. On the other end of the spectrum we ponder the "existence" of particles that don't obey any known laws in the universe...where time is not an attribute of their existence. The idea of "metaphor" is foundational to all human knowledge, to a scientist it is "cause and effect," to a poet or artist it is "metaphor," but essential it is a similar mechanism. Sometimes I fantasize that existence is itself the origin and teacher for humankind as a means to expand our knowledge. You and your website are a proof of this.

In support of the mythological accounts of the vast waves covering the lands it is important to mention that many of the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Ireland are littered with beds of sand and gravel containing sea shells deposited in the very recent geological past. Yes The Grand Canyon, hollowed out by the Great Atlanteans in my opinion, scattered around the globe after the extinction 12,000 years ago roughly. Then took their learning and wisdom and settled in Greece & Egypt that blossomed into the glory of ancient Egypt, the far east and the Americas.....

Another wonderful video! I enjoyed this one immensely. I loved how you pulled all the fire legends together in the same way I've been seeing the worldwide flood stories done into one or two major events. Great job. What you talk about makes so much sense and makes me want to learn more. The proposal of how the religions started and then splintered off seemed to answer a lot of questions. Love your sense of humor, too. :-) Thanks for all your hard work and I hope you can keep doing it for a long time.

Absolutely! My Jesuit teachers at Loyola University, many years ago, always encouraged critical thinking, including in such subjects as theology and science. Having been taught by other Catholic religious orders , who always interpreted the Bible literally, I was totally shocked to find out, that the Jesuits had a different and much more sophisticated approach. The Jesuits taught us that the truths of the Bible were expressed in "mytho-poetic" terms, and thus not subject to literal, reductionist interpretations.
Historically, the Jesuits have always excelled in every field of science since their founding in the 16th century. For example, they have been innovators in the field of modern astronomy. Examples of amazing Jesuit astronomers and scientists were Fathers Matteo Ricci and Athanasius Kircher. Great Protestant thinkers and scientists such as Johannes Kepler and Gottfried Leibnitz carried on an extensive and life-long correspondence with their Jesuit co-thinkers. The towering intellects at that time of insane religious warfare between Protestants and Catholics, understood that the truth transcends the narrowness of religious dogma. They understood, as intelligent people do today, that the progress of humanity depends on ecumenical and civilizational dialogues and collaboration, in order to understand more deeply, the great mysteries of our existence in the cosmos.

Good on you for the message at the end regarding other people’s faith. That’s something that is too often left ignored or unsaid. I think it’s critical for those of us who tend to question our own origins to maintain an open mind about other’s beliefs. The Bible is a perfect example of a faith-based approach being littered with legitimate, provable historical facts and events. I know that I have personally changed my own views on the Old and New Testaments and other religious tomes over the years precisely because so much of the stuff in the background has been verified and “discovered” to be based in actual fact!
And even if it’s just something that helps good people peacefully find their way on their own journey and it makes them happy…where is the harm?
Respect, Ben. I really appreciated that little addition at the end of this (wonderful) video.

What bothers me about the literal interpretation of that passage is that they presume that the message encompassed all living organisms, when even if allowing for everything else, doesn't it make more sense that the command wasn't "take two of every animal in Creation", but "take two of every animal you have", meaning, get on the boat, and take your cattle with you.
Makes sense for a wise old dude with a nose for weather to give that kind of advice to a bronze age goat herder if one was a wise old dude who happened to knew that a storm was coming.

Something that always stood out to me about all the creation myths is that someone always shows up to give a warning. And not just a simple head's up but like with instructions on rebuilding. And also that is seems that there's usually someone to blame. They speak of the disaster as if we were attacked and we knew it before hand. Who attacked us? Why? What power could they have had that they were able to unleash such devastation? Are they going to do it again? Are they still out there? Were we the only victims? Could Mars and Venus or whatever the asteroid belt used to be also part of the disaster? Maybe there was a war.
Also I totally relate to that part about the existential crisis from thinking about it to much. It's a great way to get depressed and riddled with anxiety.

One of the things that has bothered since way back in seminary is this: Much of the Bible - or any of the ancient religions - seems to have been written for us to remember what has happened and to warn us to be ready - because it is going to happen again. I just wish they had left something a bit more reliable than a bunch of priests to relay this warning.
When I hear about areas in Antarctica and the pyramids where nobody is allowed to explore, I just cannot shake the idea that maybe there is more information there. And perhaps it even influences those currently in power actually know a bit more than they let on.
In any case, I am truly grateful for your excellent work. Thank you.

@Adrian metzler-holden Well sure, Christians are just renegade Catholics who are, in turn, renegade Jews, who are, in turn, inheriting from the Mesopotamians. All of these major religions trace back to "the ancients". So while I can fully ignore modern religion - and I absolutely do - I think that we should be closely studying the oldest possible versions of these religion's texts. If we are to find anything of value, it won't be in the documents written since the Christians destroyed virtually everything at Alexandria. We need pre-Alexandria documents.

3:40 "The very notion of the separation of church and state *traces its roots* [sic!] back to this time in history [Enlightenment]"
That's so very wrong, I had to comment. The separation of church and state was a *done deal* in Medieval times. It was a simple matter of who has the authority to appoint church officials, the Pope or some local ruler. The Pope went to war over this and won. The Emperor (Henry the Fourth) was humiliated. Of course, in some places those achievements were later reverted, but it's because people have forgotten their own achievements.
It wasn't "just a theory". For example in Poland the kings were elected, so it meant a long period of interregnum following the death (or abdication) of the former king. The only person who could be trusted with the reins of the country in those times was the prime cardinal. They *never* tried to take over the country for themselves.
What's with this new fangled cult of Enlightenment? Enlightenment sprung up from a very long tradition of European culture which existed before them, they didn't just come up with everything by themselves.

    • @dstinnettmusic

Because it is the part of the founding myth of liberal capitalism. The enlightenment made everyone smart and we we invented nation states and capitalism and got rid of kings.

If the cycles of catastrophy are indeed caused by the sun, then the stories of "fire falling from the sky" are literally just that - FIRE. When the solar system goes through an upheaval the sun might expel massive plasma ejections. Some of these might reach Earth and cause cataclysmic destruction. I'm not discounting that there may have been cosmic impacts from asteroids or comets, but they could have happened as well as the solar catastrophes. Massive electrical arcs between passing planets is not enough to cause global devastation, but a plasma ejection (which is the size of a planet) could scorch an entire hemisphere of the Earth. I think that previous civilizations understood from their teachers that cyclical catastrophes exist and they studied the precession of the zodiac (great year) to find out when it happens during a particular zodiacal era. The hindus pinpoint the disaster happening at the end of the Kali Yuga. Guess what era we are in right now?
