rein is a character, like some of the beginning overwatch characters, that feel worse the more heroes are released. nowadays all the heroes blizzard releases just have insane movement abilities that make it so rein is virtually useless. he cant walk forward or he gets melted, he cant use his shield to walk forward bc itll get melted along with being slower than normal so the enemy runs away faster, and if he charges towards the enemy, he cant do anything after because every single one of them has a movement ability that gets them away from rein. 9 new heroes have released since ow2 released, and 6-7 of them have movement abilities (the 2 that dont are ram and jq, but both of them have abilities that increase movement speed). if we go farther back, 20 heroes in total have been released since overwatch released. 15 of them have really easy to use and very good movement abilities/escape tools that require very little skill to use. how can a tank like rein kill anything when 75% of the cast that has been added have free get out of jail cards?
You have alot of good points but you left out that Rein also has no form of CC immunity like Mauga charge, so if he tries to charge in he can stopped in every possible way outside of just plain old death unfortunately. I enjoy rein but it's so much pain to play him and you have to rely on steam rolling people that refuse to counter pick to get the most fun
It's almost like Rein was designed for a game where there would be a second tank to watch his back while he protected the rest of the team and pulled picks with charge. Inwonder what that game would look like...
I’ve learned from Bowie that the way to play Rein in OW2 is just just haul ass int into the back line. If it works it works. If it doesn’t, well it’s better than just holding shield and dying anyways.
The amount of time that turret of Torbjorn just stood there behind the angle and kept damaging you from behind frustrated me so much. Not a single soul decided for a minute to destroy that thing. OW players never changes man. They never destroy turrets that obviously keeps giving them backshots. Unbelievable
This might sound crazy, but you know what Rein needs? He needs another ability. Also seeing as he is the only melee tank, I don't think that's an unrealistic idea. Plus you can just bind it to reload for him. Dunno WHAT that would be. But he needs something and just flat out adding MORE power to his current abilities might push him into problem territory.
Yeah, there is totally nothing that can be done with it, absolutely. We need another twenty passives stacked on each other, maybe then we can think... sometimes I think that one melee character on the field isn't enough... oh well.
My favourite moment whenever I'm playing rein, is wiping their team in the first fight. And then fight, juno bastion and ana in the next fight. Sure i may be counterpicked, but the feeling of actually making people have to pick your hard counters to be able to win, makes my peanits throb. THROB!!!
As someone who has a rein only account near top 500 I can 100% tell you he is now the worst tank on the game BY A WIDE MARGIN 😂. The nerf to armor from 10 to 7 and the nerf to CC from 45% to 25% literally made him unplayable against people who even have a slight clue on how to play the game. Junk rats concussion mine literally sends you into orbit along with the sheer amount of counters that other supports have like Anna’s entire kit, brigs boop, Lucio’s boop etc. Rein has no mobility so he can’t keep up with Doom, Ball, Winton or DVA especially on maps that have important high grounds. Another thing is junk and reaper are incredibly OP rn and they very much so counter rein. I can’t tell you how many games I’ve seen a junk or reaper alone do twice as much dmg as my Dps if they aren’t playing junk. Bastion also destroys you along with Mei and ima stop naming there 😂. Tanks he gets hard countered by hoarse and all movement characters, and he also loses to queen. Queen life steals so much that you can whack her for thousands of dmg and still never get the kill. Legitimately rein is the worst character in this game and he gets hard countered by like 60% of the roster if not more. They had to gut him all bc they couldn’t nerf dva individually but had to destroy armor and the CC passive for all tanks. I recommend people to not play him if you wanna win, he’s so bad I consider him a throw pick which is sad since he’s by far my most played and liked hero.
Love this guy because since it's Overwatch I'm clueless on what tf is happening on the screen, but the makes it still entertaining and funny. How is your wrist tho?

Hi there. I don't know if you are interested in actual advice, especially from someone who's far worse than you, but here's what I would attempt with Rein. Have a plan and since you're in vc, communicate said plan to your teammates. On Attack Holywood first for example, I'd try to force stairs on the left. Walking main puts you in a killbox so go stairs. Bait out some cooldowns and then try to pin in/walk up to contest high ground. And like I said, communicate. Let your teammates know that you're planning to go stairs so they can try to keep up. It's a team game. When you're defending the same point; Hollywood first, stay up top. Stay up top because their strat is to kill you. So bait them in. Give up some space so that they are forced to make a decision. The Monkey either jumps your backline or tries to take high ground. If he does the former, then you're looking to pin somebody in main or at least force them away so that the diving Monkey gets no follow-up. If the Monkey jumps high ground... well he's in melee range so swing away. Once again, communicate. Let your teammates know that your plan involves potentially baiting out your backline therefore your teammates know in advance what to expect. I'll say that your plans on Illios played more to Rein's strengths then they did on Hollywood. I don't know how likely what I suggested is to work but this is what I'd try and then adjust as needed. Good luck!
Yes, the game is very different between actually playing in ranked, and coaching. If I look over the vod (which I did) I could INSTANTLY see basically all of my mistakes. I know how to play the hero and what I should be doing, I just struggle to put it into practice in game due to my focus being in other places. It is weird how easy it is for me to see I'm trolling when I look at it from a coaching perspective, but also how lost I felt in a playing perspective. Either way, I am A LOT better now than I was in this upload as this was one of my first days forcing him. He is only of the only heros I can't 1 trick to top 500 so I'm forcing him till I can.
@@GREED_EU That's good to hear. In that case I wish you good luck on the Rein journey because I for one certainly have no advice on how to play with a coaching mindset whilst actually participating in a match.
everything is tanks problem; thing is you can't address every boo boo, your position can sometimes be more important than a stray, but you really shouldn't let anyone leak through if possible. If you're not making contact with rein ie chasing your probably in the wrong spot, rein can't afford to chase much of anything unless it's a secured kill which is almost impossible nowadays ie juno. Chasing in most games is newb, and often just gets you killed. Like neo says eventually you don't have to move if your good enough :P Rien still is a fukin nightmare at times though, in terms of correct decision making :P
I like rein best in scenarios where the enemy is forced to come to you. Typically I find my most success on a map where I can play line of sight and spam my fire strike. It's very very rare that I go for a deep pin and almost exclusively use it for short pins on objective or for mobility. Usually when I prioritize using cover I have my shield handy for when my healers need a breather.
you sadly made the mistake of playing tank in a game where the tank has to switch every 10 seconds, so the only thing you should do is switch into smth that can play in their comp better, greed probably knows this ofc, its just sad to see him wanting to learn rein just to be punished because he chose to exist for more than 10 seconds
Rien is literally guard teammates who do decent damage, and play every corner. Charge almost never a thing and chasing is defiantly not a thing. He's always just been outclassed by range, goofy hero. Firestrikes have to hit, or you have no chance.
Crazy how your team stayed on Genji into a Winston, and playing Ana when she should have gone Bap or Brig. Ultimately, the team placed the failure onto you when it's a team game. They're all selfish.

Rein's just lame to play against if you don't counterpick him since they kept buffing all his stats but didn't address his weakness of being a slow melee ranged hero When he has a Juno on his team and my team doesn't bother playing shieldbreak heroes it's just boring. I guess it is map dependant too. Rein on control is lame af.
