  • This is a remake of a video I posted about two years ago. I've enhanced it.
    ******************
The appearance of this masterpiece at mid-century marked a sea change in the repertoire of the wind band. Hindemith set the standard for this symphonic genre, and it is a lofty standard indeed.
In this video, you'll hear the Eastman Wind Ensemble led by the baton of Frederick Fennell.
I mentioned a splendid performance of this symphony that I think you might want to see/hear: www.youtube.co....
This video will be followed within the next few days by another video treating the symphony in a kind of outline that I hope will be useful to an understanding of the work.

OMG I love this so much! My high-school band successfully undertook Symphony in B-Flat only because we had a visionary director. Hindemith was as much an engineer as an artist. I know of no composer who brought as much intellect into the artistry. I can't keep up with the math, but the emotion is as intense as it gets.
