Leverkusen owns the cup
They beat Bayern. Frankfurt. Monchengladbach. But they couldn’t beat Kaiserslautern. Football is crazy.
Shows how whack a lot of the 1st league teams are this season.
Not really crazy just logical. Kaiserslautern played a complete diffrent game. They played defensive and waited for a chance. While the other Teams played offensive and let themself open for counter Attacks.
Kaiserslautern had home advantage

Das hatten wir schon mal. Sieger im Pokal und Abstieg in die 2. Liga. (1996), Dann 1 Jahr 2. Liga und dann Meister als Aufsteiger! Darum habe ich Angst, das sie wieder Absteigen ;-)

First went to Kaiserslautern when they beat Koln on my birthday, was a truly magical night and I fell in love with the club instantly, can’t believe they’ve made the final 👹❤️

Understandable. They were just 90 minutes away from a dfb pokal final. Almost unlucky in the end how the first goal went, but they did well up until then.
to be honest they already won the Pokal in my mind. It is not always the trophy - it is when an FC Bayern fan all the way from Canada googles your town and stadium and finds out where are you and starts following you as a neutral fan (: I will always be one of their fans also
If Duesseldorf wins tomorrow, not only Leverkusen lost for the 1st time in this season, but we'll see 2nd division in the final. Saarbrücken did very well, just like Croatia.

Fun fact: If Kaiserslautern finish on 16th in the league, they'd have to play relegation playoff matches on the 23rd and 27th of may and squeeze in the cup final, on the 25th
imagine they focus on the final, they would be in the 3rd division but in the europe league
Difficult schedule, but they will definitely postpone one of the playoff games

The reason Saarbrücken won is because they were playing simple, dirty football "bollsplatz" football as its called in Germany. None of the first league teams can match it especially if they are weak and unmotivated late in the game and the enemies have fire in them. Then of course, Lautern can do exactly what Saarbrücken were doing all this time. Saarbrücken wouldn't have most likely been able to beat any 2nd division teams except the REALLY bad ones.
Feel sad for Saarbrücken. This run has to go down in history.

I feel really sorry for saarbucken. They did all the heavy lifting just to be beaten by kaiserslauten. They should have taken the same mentality into this game
They did, unfortunately Kaiserslautern played differently, very defensive, letting Saarbrücken to get ball and doing (normal) mistakes when they have to attack...
Similar thing also happen in Thailand’s Chang FA Cup Quarter Final where a third division side, Bangkok FC won 5-4 against Buriram United which is one of the best team in Thailand in 90 minutes.

Saarbrucken beat the best team in Germany, and also Frankfurt and Gladbach. unlucky, but also a great run and congratulations - I can just see the 13 or 15 year old future Saarbrucken player work twice as hard and trigger his hidden talent and get Saarbrucken to the next level. Thank you for the wonderful memories Saarbrucken. I will always be a fan, Fussball is doing well and in my opinion you have already won the pokal this season.

Gokil cok Kaiserslautern ini. Duduk di peringkat 16 zona degradasi Divisi 2 Bundesliga Germany. Kalo sampe juara otomatis lolos ke liga eropa musim depan dan kalo degradasi ke Divisi 3 Germany lebih gokil lagi storynya. Mirip Wigan di musim 2012/2013 kalo gk salah.
Meanwhile, apes bgt Saarbrucken, pdhl dah susah payah menang lwn tim besar seperti Muenchen, Frankfrut, Gladbach tapi eh malah kalahnya sama tim zona degradasi di Divisi 2.

Serves Saarbrücken right for purposefully not taking care of their pitch in order to be able to postpone their league fixture so they can gain an advantage in terms of match fitness for this cup match and therefore manipulating both the cup and league competition by messing up Essen's league match schedule.
Leverkusen did something similar through using their close connection to both the DFL and DFB last season when they got permission to reschedule their league fixture to gain an advantage for their european fixture. They lost their league match against Cologne, weren't able to qualify for the Champions League and got kicked out of Europe that time. Hope something similar happens to Saarbrücken's season.

es war doch die Strategie von KL erst Mal tief zu stehen und Saarbrücken den Ball zu überlassen um zu schauen was sie so damit machen und selbst dann anzugreifen, das hat in HZ1 sicher nicht so geklappt aufgrund von Stopfehlern etc. aber in der zweiten HZ sah es dann schon besser aus, ich sehe nicht wie man hier von einem "klar besser" schreiben kann. Es hat sich von Beginn an so angefühlt als würde das Team gewinnen, welches das erste Tor schießt.
SB hat seine grossen Chancen nicht genutzt. Tore entscheiden nun mal und nichts Anderes.
Trost: der Finalist kommt auch aus dem Suedwesten, aus der pfaelzischen Nachbarschaft.
