  • 1) The ozone layer is a delicate barrier that sits in the stratosphere and prevents potentially dangerous ultraviolet rays from penetrating the atmosphere. Protecting life on Earth from the destructive effects of the sun's ultraviolet rays is a priority.
    2) An excessive amount of exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays can lead to skin cancer, an accelerated ageing process, eye problems such as cataracts, a weakened immune system, and even the death of cells by destroying DNA.
    3) The stratosphere, which is a component of the atmosphere, is where you'll find the ozone layer. Ozone gas, which has the chemical formula O3, makes up the ozone layer, which is an extremely vital component of the atmosphere.
    4) Chlorine and free radicals are both produced when refrigerants such as Freon (CCl2F2) and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are utilized. These free radicals contribute to the depletion of the ozone layer by converting ozone (O3) into oxygen molecules.
The ozone layer in the atmosphere serves as a shield, preventing the majority of the sun's ultraviolet rays from penetrating it and reaching Earth.
    5) In recent years, air conditioners have been contributing to the depletion of the ozone layer by emitting an excessive amount of CFCs, which are typically utilized in the cooling process of refrigerators. The ozone layer develops a hole whenever there is a decrease in the amount of ozone gas in the atmosphere. This particular hole is referred to as a "ozone hole."
    6) Scientists who study climate have noticed that there is a low concentration of ozone in the ozone layer that is located above the South Pole of the Earth. This is a concerning sign for the future of life on Earth.
    7) The Montreal Protocol, which was created to repair the ozone layer and reduce the rate of climate change, will be the focus of World Ozone Day in the year 2023.
