Thank you so much for such a fantastic, informative video. I can relate to it so much even though I'm a 56 year old man on my 1st year diaversery. I too had a complete dickhead of a GP who diagnosed me with depression. Needless to say I ended up in hospital with DKA. Eyes still f**ked.

Happy 15 years .🎉 You've done really well managing your diabetes diagnosis. No better way than to eat a Mc Donald's veggie dippers meal !! ❤❤❤

Thank you so much for sharing this. I’m not surprised bits if the actual day of diagnosis are so hazy, given how sick you were. I’m astounded that the GP you saw regularly didn’t pick up on the fact something was wrong, and it genuinely sounds like if you hadn’t been diagnosed when you were, you literally could have died, or at the least, had serious life changing impacts such as blindness (I know that type 1 diabetes is life changing anyway). I think there is still a lot of ignorance around the difference between type 1 and type 2. I had no idea just how sick you became with it, and I’ve learned so much about it through your channel x

I really applaud you. You should be proud of yourself. At 13 I would have felt like I needed to take over my care too would have felt too old to rely on parents injecting me, but at 13 I was a very immature 13 so I would not been able to care well for myself. I would have been very inconsistent and neglectful.

Happy 15 years! 🎉 I’ve been type 1 for 8 years. Only came across your channel recently and I’m so glad I did! It’s so great to see someone talk about t1d so openly. So sorry that your diagnosis was so traumatic though. I’m only now getting my hba1c into a good range though thankfully it hasn’t been too terrible either 😅 just wondering would you be comfortable talking about your journey since diagnosis? Like how your management has changed and how you’ve managed to lower your hba1c over the years?

Best of luck with your hba1c 💓 yes definitely. I honestly think the turning point was getting a cgm. I had a hba1c of about 8.5% pre cgm. With one year using libre I dropped down to 7% and now I'm around 6.5% (50). I also think I've learned so much since becoming part of a diabetes group here in Ireland and how to better advocate for myself 😊

@@gabbabetic thank you so much for sharing! My hba1c has been similar to yours in the past though I’m only now getting it consistently in the 7%ish range. I’ve also noticed a huge difference since getting the libre 😊 thanks again!

Been there I was dx type 1 1973 month of august I was in dka there was no one to turn to. I felt like I was the only child in New Jersey with diabetes and the complications that came with it.

Did you think you may have had a bladder infection before your diabetes diagnosis then?

Here's how you can cure your T1 diabetes: kidding....we all get those idiots trying to tell us how their cousin's neighbor's best friend's kids did this special diet and cured their T1 diabetes. I was diagnosed on 1/18/1985, just after my 17th birthday. 1/18/2025 next year will be my 40th diaversary. Lots of changes since I was diagnosed. I plan on posting my first ever video (with me in it) on that day. Best of luck to your future!
