- We are herping in northern Thailand's Nan province, searching for a great variety of venomous and non venomous snakes. Of course we find a nice selection of other critters too, such as the Fea's Flying Frog - the largest Flying Frog in the world!
always waiting for your new video friends
David, some of your old fans here, wondering the same thing…where were you raised and where have you studied?
We love your work. We are old American Law Professors so I was drafted to inquire.
Really it’s to settle a wager on your unusual accent…lol
Be safe!
Hey Jason, my parents are both German but I was born in the US. Grew up in Florida, South Africa, Thailand and Spain.
Great Job ,,,,,,, Congrats Team '
What an awesome adventure!! Herping at its best, beautiful array of animals. That frog, I have a soft spot for derpy critters 😅💜
More please 🐍
More incoming!
That giant frog was definitely the highlight of this one. That thing is absolutely massive. Those giant beatles were nice too for something different.
Yes, the frog was my favorite find too - not for long though. The next episode will have some cooler things
Those Coleoptera are cool as...!
Thanks for the video David!
I have a pair of the Bamboo Rat Snakes. Very cool animals.
Thanks for watching! Which subspecies of bamboo rs do you have?
@@DAVIDSFEED that’s a great question. When I picked them up, they were labeled as Yunnan Mountain Bamboo. I’m not certain which sub species would be found in that area myself.
Thanks for the great videos!!! You are one of a kind!!!
Thanks a lot!
I’m a HUGE Beatles fan too! What a coincidence! “Hey Jude” is one of my favourites.
Sorry David I couldn’t resist.
Same! Hahaha
That gump was incredible and you are wayyy too brave man lol
Nothing to do with bravery, if you understand their behavior it’s a walk in the park.
Very nice and colorful bamboo ratsnakes, both species. I like the red a little more. I don’t know why they underrate them so much.
Also congratulations on the Viber handling, she was sitting just like a corn snake. This big frog acted more like a toad rather than a climbing species. probably the clumsiest and funniest jumps from any arboreal frog.
Would have like to see the walking stick too, and those beetles were so cool. And that last snake, what a chill beauty..it made me nervous when she bent her head down...you have Cajones of steal
thank for another great Friday video!
Awesome 👍 Thanks David
Welcome!
Those beetles are Siamese rhino beetles! So cool!
are you able to ID the darker beetle w/the large pinchers ? It reminds me of our local pine beetles we have here in the southeastern USA..
@@randywatchingbush I think both of them are the same species. Not 💯 tho
That was amazing watching you hold that viper
_+_ I'm glad you went to Nan province. I like watching your videos ^_^
Hi David well another awesome video, some beautiful snakes, and that frog was a beauty, and stunning to look at. Well mate a great night for us and yourself, take care. Cheers from down under. Iain
Thanks mate!
What an absolute sweetheart. I don't know how you guys do it. I would be wanting to take every snake home with me if I were well enough to go herping and saying goodbye to a sweetheart like that one viper you were petting would absolutely gut me. I would feel like "She chose me, I am hers now. Either she is coming home with me, or I am going to be henceforth living in the forest.
I know the feeling all too well!
I agree beetles are pretty neat. Became a fan of them when I was about 5 years old in El Paso Texas where I would play with these large metallic green and silver Scarab beetles that were so metallic looking, they appeared to be metal objects.
I'm Canadian. I had to be happy playing with isopods. I mean, I was, but I also had no choice haha. I did play with stick bugs and mantids here and there though.
I think I’ve found the beetles you’re talking about in Texas before too as a child n
Great video as always
Thanks Marcelo!
That was a amazing snake i like how it has them yellow eyes 👀 but i do have to say you are just calm amd pick them rite up lol
As always, the biodiversity and prevalence of Thailand's herps is incredible. Thanks for the adventure!
Great adventure. Hope you can fond some blood pythons.
brave to be riding without gloves , it get worse , man nice find on the gumprechti , right @ 20.58 , thats a winning shot there
Thanks David really enjoyed your video especially the large male Pope's pit viper. As a matter of interest you say its really cold what is the temperature when you were herping?, I am guessing around 16c to 18c. That was a quite a large female Gumprechts pit viper.
Yes your guess is correct, it was around that temperature. But the high humidity and wet clothes while driving a scooter make it feel a lot colder than it is.
Lovely province, Great people.
I really enjoyed it there!
I'm kinda surprised you are finding all these snakes in such cold weather.
The thing is it’s always cold in these high mountains, so the snakes have no choice but to be active in the cold. They’re also well adapted for these temperatures
Like the beginning so far, nice sound track, good rhythm, some Zack Snyder slow mo....
Guess I'm in for a great episode
That red pareas is amazing
Temperature is probably around 15 degrees :
David :it's freezing!!!!
Thats a cool aquatic lizard
Oh that's one big gum!
Yes, it was actually over 15° but at almost 2000m on a scooter in fog and wet clothes that feels absolutely freezing.
The last viper, she wanted to be your friend🥺🥰
Your videos are gorgeous!
Thank you!
I'm a Beatles fan too! Abbey Road! LOL! ;-)
Hahaha
Your a legend
Thanks!
Yay!!!! 🤍 nice videos bro
The stag beetle could be Odontolabis siva, a beauty!
You were cold because you were barefoot. Lol
damn man, I've been herping Thailand for years and have always stayed south because I thought the species were cooler. Would love to join a Nan trip with you guys if you're doing them as part of your new guided tour thing at some point.
The south definitely has more of the iconic big and flashy species. The north is good for some true rarities most have never even heard of. There’s a good chance we will be doing guided expeditions to the north at some point next year - keep an eye on our website for that.
Oh man I want one of them first beetles they looked awesome with the big horns on them.
I’m pretty sure this exact species is available in captivity
@@DAVIDSFEED I live in Scotland so some things r hard to come by but goin to have alook for them.
Fishing for the snake with flip flops classic
I know you're skilled and an expert and all but it blows my mind that you don't get bit often they way you handle some of the venomous snakes. It makes me so nervous to watch you 😂
Yea I don't understand he must really really know when they are about to strike or something
No shoes on even a scooter can end badly :S
awesome babe ❤️❤️
How cold does it get, I thought it never went below 70s.
It was around 65, sometimes it can get a lot colder. These temperatures feel a lot colder in Thailand than they do elsewhere because 1. You’re not used to anything that isn’t incredibly hot and 2. The humidity is very high so it feels a lot colder than it actually is.
Holy shit you could put those beetles on a leash
It’s awesome that he handling a wild viper like this I’m shocked
No shoes 😱😱 while you are searching for snakes ?!!!
Those are 4x4 flip-flops with snake proof treads.
Id be wearing steel toe boots lol
But in all honesty... id be wearing flip flops for any adventure 🤭😅 🇨🇦
Thay are highly trained snake whispering flip flops 🤪
David do you think you guys will ever do an African trip or south American trip? Or have you already done those and I just haven’t seen them?
I certainly plan on doing trips to other countries! I’m sure I will get to it as some point but at the moment I’m too busy in Thailand.
The beginning of this video saddened me. I accidentally ran over a snake yesterday :(
I did the same for the 1st time in my 67 years here among the living .. I was in a turn going a lil to quick to react in time.. and there was another behind me who finnished him off thankfully.. I never leave a suffering animal alive when I see one on the read injured.... don't beat yourself up. $hit happen$
It happens, and sometimes can’t be avoided. As long as it wasn’t intentional don’t beat yourself up over it.
@@DAVIDSFEED definitely not intentional. Thanks bud
Nah that's a no neck thick viper on the right to catch the misty mantis the frog skull was used earlier lol
This may seem like a silly question but I don't know of anyone who could better answer it than you Guys. In your collective opinion what would you guys say is the best non-venomous pet snake ? as always captivated by your video content information and pictures.. eagerly awaiting your next video ..
I like ball python
I don’t think there is such thing as a best snake, it’s very subjective to personal preference as they’re all so different and awesome in their own way.
👌👌👍👍👍👍👍👍
You guys are not photographing lifers now?
This was an exception, I couldn’t be bothered to set up my camera for photography and I knew we would find many more of the species over the coming days and would have plenty of opportunities to photograph one, which we did.
I've been marathoning your old videos and I can't help but wonder: why do you have such long nails, only on one hand? I have a theory that you're a guitar player, and if that's the case, do you do the music for your videos?
I haven’t had my long nails for about 5 years now…
@@DAVIDSFEED yeah, I just kept watching the recommended videos that popped up. I am disabled so I really love herping videos because it's literally the only way I would get to herp myself. Anyway, I didn't mean any offense. You don't need to have had a reason. I was just curious if you did have one.
Forgot to mention that some of these beetles emit a strange chemical odor that other insects - even centipedes find repulsive or terrifying.
I found that out the hard way! 🤣
I live in Nam I see a few nice species here occasionally
In Nan town?
@@DAVIDSFEED no Vietnam... Binh Duong specifically.
Do you have any near future travel plans for herping? There are so many great places to go!
What is meant by lifer?Don't get that.
Lifer means it’s a species I’ve never found before.
my booty cheeks stay clinched watching that last viper climb on you. my sand boa is a yearling so it does the same thing digging it's head and face into any space to make sure it doesn't fall. I imagine what it would feel like trying to climb down from a tree without arms..
It’s a little discomforting with vipers but as long as it’s not in a defensive way all is fine haha
Cold in Thailand????
Yep!
Why are you driving on the wrong side of the road? 😜
Because the cars here are scared of toasters if you change the shoelaces.
เจองูทางมะพร้าวเขียวกับงูทางมะพร้าวแดงพร้อมกันเลยโชคดีมากๆขอให้เจองูขอนท้องขาวไวๆ
get some shoes man
🤘😁
Aww their going to Nan. Don’t let her over feed you biscuits and home made soup and don’t let het slip you money when your leaving. She’s living on a pension and its not right to take it.
Noted haha
No offense but you’re probably cold because looks like you weigh 100 pounds soaking wet and you’re not wearing any socks or shoes
I’m around 140 pounds
งู
Got them gas saver peds goin on but dam they don't go fast lol
The scooters in Thailand actually go pretty fast. I just drive slow to be able to stop for snakes easier
At least show us how bad it pinches stick it on one of ur buddies lol that's always fun ta do haha
I was thinking of doing that actually 🤣🤣
