This update force you to set Microsoft account.
I love Windows 11. It made me a linux user, and Im never turning back :)
My fingers were already raised to scream at you, why you love Windows 11. But after reading all the words, I'm fine with it 🙂
@@ronny332As a window 11 user I am scared to talk to you 😅
It is because of the path Windows followed, Windows 8 - trying to make PC OS like tablets, Windows 10 - Mixed Reality Shenanigans, Windows 11 cutting down necessary features and baking in AI. On the other hand Linux and Mac continued making their OS polished. I hope Microsoft focuses on what Windows does best.
@@ronny332i'm a Windows 11 user and i'm proud of that 👍
Same my friend! got forced off of Windows 7. Proton was the final piece i needed to swith. been useing Linux mint since 2019 =D never looked back. Things just get better and better every year!!
I find it laughable that we're getting energy saving features when AI consumes more energy than any single PC could ever produce in its lifetime.
Yes, most people are clueless about how much electrical power is wasted by the 'cloud' including AI. If people would visit one of those serverparks then they might start to understand it. 😆
Gigachad using GPT4 running on A100 cluster to do find and replace in 100k word document.
Next they'll include solar panels with 25H2. lol
SoDo - the built in rootkit for Windows :D
Blocking a bunch of apps like ExplorerPatcher - not cool yo! :(
@@shApYT I've used atleast half a gigawatt by myself. should be an achievement
I wonder how much Copilot consumes, by doing some experiments myself I saw how slow a model like llama70b can be even on a machine with RTX 4080 and 128GB RAM... I wonder how much hardware (and electric power) you need to produce tokens fast enough for services like ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot, I wouldn't be suprised if that's more than my household power cap (in my coutry most domestic meters are capped to 3kW).
A Windows desktop with built in AI hallucinations sounds like a delightful prospect.
"AI hallucinations" - very nice...
Spyware and keyloggers "cough cough"
@@TechnoMinded-qp5inThat's industry standard.
"I'm sorry, Chris...I'm afraid I can't let you do that." -- Microsoft AI "Paperclip 9000"
I was in the IT industry for over 25 years. Windows 11 is hands down the worst operating system I have ever seen. It's like the devs rolled into work one day and decided to take all the stuff that worked and moved them around so you couldn't find them then took all the garbage they had left over from previous builds, put them in a box, shook it up, and poured it into 11.
Wait until you see Windows 12 next year. Beware it can still get worse than this unless Windows 12 redeems itself like Windows 10 did compared to Windows 8.
devs = H1B pajeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeets 👳🏾♂️👩🏽🇮🇳
sudo is cool and all but I still feel for me personally, Windows 11 is just a weird sandbox of experiments slapped together from all modern operating systems.
They did the same with win8 (Holy shit that was horrible)
Yeah that's the worst part about Win11. The underlying OS? Phenomenal, fantastic. The userspace? Reeks of Microsoft hitting the "not knowing wtf to do to stay fresh" phase again.
@@supra107 You sum it up pretty well.
I am cool with Linux for the most part but I too enjoy Windows 10.
11 however just feels weird.
@@supra107 not much has changed under the hood since 2006
@@doltBmB You say that like it's a bad thing. Better keep it unchanged than to constantly juggle what's already working, like the window server.
Right clicking to empty the recycle bin was too difficult?
Copilot can not do it, so it must be very very difficult for users🤔
Seems like it. Users know how to empty bin, right ?.... right ?
Maybe he's baking and he hands are totally full with dough, so of course he's going to talk with the computer to do basic stuff. What are, cavemen from the '60s to TYPE on our computers ?
Storage sense has been automatically emptying recycle bin to your choice of intervals for a long time. It’s sad that they have to break already working features just to rebrand them as AI.
Sudo for Windows as well as WSL is such a big acknowledgement for FOSS.
@CreepToeJoe Maybe!! Remember Microsofts three 'E' motto "Embrace, Extend and Extinguish".
@@BuriedUnkind Yeah, I know. I remember.
@@BuriedUnkind Never forget.
@@BuriedUnkind FF: also E = 69
Microsoft treats FOSS the same way every other corporation treats FOSS which led to Linux being relevant in any way. Volunteers can help out developing it for free, and every corporation that invests time and money into developing FOSS will mutually benefit from it later on.
Because without corporate backing, Linux wouldn't exist. Just look at GNU Hurd or any other truly free kernel. They all suck. Linux is what it is because of all the commits done by IBM, Microsoft, Intel, AMD, Nvidia, Google, Facebook and every other big bad corporation.
Microsoft embraces FOSS because unlike Ballmer, Nadella saw the potential in letting people writing code for free, just like every other corporation did with Linux.
24H2 will be a really nice thing for Linux, as soon as I heard they're doubling down on blocking customization apps I switched to debian12 (dual boot for now), then when I couldn't get debian to play games I tried Mint and so far it's really nice :) Now with google also amending what extensions can and can't do, I've switch to Waterfox...... I am so grateful that Open Source is a thing! Once I have a bit more knowledge/experience in linux I will be removing windows 11 :)))
I spent a couple of hours in Debian 12 figuring out how to install AMD firmware for my modern GPU, then I left. Am on Nobara atm, have gamed on Arch based distros. I like Mint but I never got gaming working, though I probably missed a dependency for older games or something. Gaming really has been the main reason I've kept Windows 11 around. I've had a certain game launcher backend break a couple of years ago, it becomes a problem for online games if they can't patch. But I'm playing offline games currently so it's a good lull time in content to experiment with gaming on Linux again. I've used Waterfox before am mostly on Firefox currently, have Brave, Chrome, and Tor for niche cases. A bit of a weird case where my mother's banking online works in Chrome. I like OnlyOffice for both Windows and Linux. Would love to change back mostly or just keep dual boot for backup.
I started with Linux mint too. Dual booted for a while. Switched almost completely to Arch, and used that extensively for a few years. 3-4 months ago i completely switched to Arch, and uninstalled windows (begone microsoft bloat). One thing that really helped is letting go of the need to use proprietary windows software (photoshop, lightroom, etc). I used and learnt all the native Linux options, and they work pretty great once you get the hang of it. Gaming also works flawlessly.
If you have problems playing games on Debian12 try the flatpak version of steam as it comes with a newer mesa. also if you have nvidia that might cause problems with basically any distro
No way, you wont trick me into believing Microsoft actually put some effort into an update.
We need go back win7 era
I switched from Windows 7 to Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition. Got familar environment, updated apps, better security, better performance. Couldn't be happier. Get Edge edition with the 6.5 kernel if you have problems with devices (wifi cards). I wouldn't go back to Windows 7 after using Linux.
We are getting more requests to disable CoPilot for security reasons from Insurance companies, accountants, and local government offices
GPEDIT > User configuration > Administrative templates > Windows components > Windows Copilot
Toggle to "enable"
No more co-pile-et 💩
Is there a way to do that?
They shouldn't use Microsoft products in the first place. Read Microsoft windows license, in 12000 words Microsoft explains how it sells your business data to Microsoft its business partners. In perpetual royalty free indeed. A lawyer typing a court case letter just as well could type it with the judge watching behind his shoulder. Also word documents maintain edits.
we really got sudo in windows before gta 6
OMG, So correct! I never would have figured but here we are.
Copilot is trash
Agreed.
Wow.... The chain of reasoning is truly Oscar-worthy.
Microsoft trying to please the 4%
They are taking baby steps to make it less miserable for command line users.
Lame duck take.
I don't agree with the removal of Wordpad. It's really useful when you need a bit more advanced editor to see some types of documents or files whereas notepad will display it as complete junk. It was always there when I needed it and it did not require to install anything. Really sad that it's going away from the default installation as Microsoft is trying to push the Office subscription to everyone..
Hopefully people more people use Obsidian in response
@@ThePlayerOfGames Or notion. Obsidian is not good if you don't pay and need the sync.
I never paid for Office apps. Always went through torrenting for that. Really sad to see Office being included on sold PCs under form of a trial.
Lets be realistic here. You are like in the 0.005% of people who actually ever used wordpad. I am a system administrator and never seen or heard anyone needing/using it, because there are simply much better tools to use. The few times I tried using it it failed. Now logically speaking what makes more sense? Force a programm onto every user even tho the vast vast vast majority never uses it or force people like you to do a 5 second search and click download wordpad in the store. I guess I let you decide what makes more sense.
@@layas8861 wordpad barely consumed any space and it was good enough when it was needed. The TV app took huge amount of space and no one used it. Why was it forced to users ? Same principle, wordpad was at least useful. I understand that for you as a sysadmin it's worthless but for troubleshooting someone else PC without internet connection it was really useful.
Sudo on Windows ?!?
Next step should be KDE... and then... Linux Kernel... and we get a new distro... GatesOS ...
Turning into a WinKali :D

You’re the reason I went Linux bro. I threw endeavorOS on my g14 laptop
How's it going so far?
I have been using LinuxMint since 2 years now.
I like to know people's experiences with Linux so i can know what to recommend in the future.
@sandman_857 yep
I must say that sudo for Windows (the one by Microsoft) is not even sudo, it's just something that elevates to Admin privileges. Guess they called it "sudo" to make it more impressive, but truth is, the super user is by definition an user that has 100% control over the system, which also means it should technically have 100% control over making registry changes and system changes deep in the system without getting "access denied" errors. That's not the case. To do a lot of those things, you still need to use different unofficial tools such as MinSudo or gsudo which essentially let you use the System account or TrustedInstaller account. Or else, you need to load hives from Windows Setup to make those changes, it's quite tedious if I have to say so myself.
I ditched the crotch sniffing, switched to Linux and took back my computer.
Thanks for the Windows11 videos. They are what convinced me to build a new Linux PC a few months ago. I'm still on Windows10 and not interested in installing Windows11 until I0 is end of life. I can do almost everything I use a PC for on my Linux PC. My Linux PC has been my primary PC the last few months and I use the Windows PC mostly for a couple of games that don't work on Linux. Thanks for the videos!
Outlook for Windows is replacing Mail and Calendar and it is trash.
They're going for the Thunderbird instead of the Geary and Evolution 🤦
Try Betterbird, its a fork of thunderbird, you won't be disappointed. They kept trying to force me over to outlook, so I switched and cancelled my MS account to a Local account.
why is it so hard for microsoft to make a good OS?
They're the richest company in the world, they have all the money they don't need to care
They did have one IMO, Win 7 was GREAT, but $$$ MS want more of it, to hell with the user's opinions.
*SKLL3TR* ---
_'Why is it so hard for microsoft to make a good OS?'_ --- Why should they ?
Millions of technicians around the world rely on MS to produce a crap system.
If computers were using a Unix based system - there would be mass unemployment 😉🙃😊
They made a good OS, it's called Windows 11. What they've done wrong is that they've slapped a bunch of idiotic additions on top of it and ruined it.
I think everybody is confused thinking that Microsoft is a software company. It's not. It's a marketing organisation. Once you have internalised that, what they do then makes sense...
I am honestly sad to see the mail app go. I switched to linux about two years ago so this doesn't really affect me much, but the mail app helped me survive the horrible performance of outlook on my garbage pc, and honestly the interface looked cleaner than desktop outlook, too.
yeah not having mail notifications is a huge pain in the ass
NT3.5, NT4, 2000, XP... and then the spark plug in one of the 2 cylinders burnt out.
The new Windows update is cool but when are you making a vid on the Drake x Kendrick beef. We need your clarity on this topic Chris.
"This is pretty cool; should you use it? ABSOLUTELY NOT!" -- CTT 😆😅
-Copilot, could you empty the recycle bin for me?
-Sure! Emptying now..
-Umm Copilot, why am I getting errors all over the place?
-I'm sorry you're having err -
*Copilot has crashed*
"-Sure! Emptying *System32* now.."
I don't need or want more than word pad, I just want word pad the way it's always been. How do I keep it or reinstall it?
Cheers 🍻
Microsoft are removing simple tools like Wordpad - or 'Paint' ------ for one basic reason --- They're 'Free'
@@Pax.Alotin And also the good old Mail and Calendar. Replaced by ugly and slow webapp Outlook
Search for Optional features in Settings, you should be able to install Wordpad from there?
@@UshankaMaster For now -- but you know MS have dropped all support for it.
They really do intend to kill it - because it doesn't grease their greedy little palms.
Jeez, does noone pay attention ? Chris said it in the video, you can install it from the Microsoft Store. And I'm pretty sure that if you have it installed, it won't remove it. It's just that on new Windows installs, it won't be preinstalled by default.
I recommend staying on 26100.1 until the fall. Too many things get broken in subsequent builds, not least of all your customisation software. The downside is you’ll no longer be able to update Windows but who cares? You’ll have a stable 24H2 which beats any so called improvements you might get. And you can see later down the road if upgrading to the gold version is worth it.
I dont think mail is actually going away its being replaced by the worse outlook (new)
Yay for Start Menu Ads coming back! OMG AS IF WE CANNOT GET ENOUGH ADS SHOVED DOWN OUR THROATS, CRAPPED OUT AND REFED BACK TO US... sick of Ads
I wonder is there a vidoe on how did you customise windows with the bar (and are the windows tiling?)
Thanks for the gsudo heads up, its available in winget as well
I remember seeing a article about sudo on windows like a month or so ago and it had some vulnerability.
LOL
Thanks Chris
I keep checking in to see if the taskbar and right click menus have been fixed....I'll check back later.....
First thing I do after installing a fresh Windows 10 desktop is replace its default applications.
Edge by Chrome, Mail by Thunderbird, Microsoft Office by Libre Office, Movies and TV by VLC, Photos by IrfanView, Groove by foobar2000, etc.
I also install SumatraPDF, WinRAR, Calibre and another browsers, downloaders, video tools and social networkings apps.
Therefore, why not simply use another operating system if I no longer use any of the tools that Windows gives me?
I also hate that, with the latest Windows 10 updates, Windows 11 features are installed that I would never have requested for my system.
I´ve updated to Windows 11 three times and on all three occasions I returned to Windows 10.
Backup and restore (Windows 7) tool in Windows 10 was most valuable application for me. Although it can also fail.
Chris help me
My only options for shut down and restarting are updating on windows 10, does that mean I'm being forced into windows 11?
Thanks. Pretty much already knew I'd sit on 23h2 until forever or someone (like you) can "fix" it.
Windows is now Operating system with AI. Box checked, No further development needed. Executives and Shareholder happy and approvingly nodding from their holidays in Switzerland.
Still want an answer to how i can re-initiate the razer updates after i used your tool to stop it. It only tells you how to stop it, doesn't tell you how to default back again. thank you
In a month? 24H2 is expected somewhere in the September-October timeframe, is it not?
hi chris, is Qubes OS still good to use? if your only gaming, surfing. what now would be the min requirements for running this OS? i am thinking of using this os. currently running windows 10. if i do switch. how easy will it be to move data to the new OS. i have 1 m.2 2tb and 2 10tb hdd.
What’s that top bar in the Windows installation and what’s used for the autotiling, FancyWM?

I admit seeing sudo not asking a password cringed me. So if I get it well it's just a "sugar" to get privilege for a command? I'm not used to the terminal in Windows just asking.
Yet another good content installment. Thanks!
I like new file system ReFS, new archiving formats and sudo. And system feels generally more snappy and stable. I used it since January and on my work computer that is connected to Intune. It is rock solid!
youre saying not to upgrade to 24h2, which windows version would you suggest?
Windows 10 LTSC, it's just 10 but with more support.
Is Fedora 40 coming out today,?
I checked and I'm not seeing it yet.
So I'm hoping it comes out later today, since most sources said it is supposed to.
Just installed gsudo (powershell). 24H2 might be an option for fresh installs once it's mature. I really should get back to spending more time in Nobara. Most of my Windows 11 use is for gaming.
Hi Chris,
What about windows 24H2 blocking apps like StartAllBack, WinAero, ExplorerPatcher and others? Saw a video on Britec and it looks like it blocks everythig. Is there a way around it?
Thanks!
I'm still on 21H2 (OS Build 22000.2538). Got that Recommended Settings set in the Tool you provide. Haven't seen any updates on that in a while. Do get some security updates, tho. Honestly, I don't really like the whole Copilot stuff. I do use it sometimes, but I don't want it in my system. the browser is good enough.
windows removing key features and customizability is a good thing?
The greatest feature for Copilot to have is allowing me to remove it
So am I one of the lucky ones? One of the people who have a failed update pending since 6 months and each time it forces the update on me it tries 3 times, then when it fails 3 times it rolls it back and immediately after that queue the same update again? Windows is garbage.
How did you get the menu on top? Some plugin on win or ur using linux?
It's crazy to see eveything turning around AI at a point Microsoft even wants to include inside Windows. Well, the thing is that i don't need that. I don't care. If i want to use copilot, all i have to do is to use a browser xD. Using Windows in factory in stock state isn't an option.
If you think Windows 11 is bad ,12 will be worse. 12 is replacing the start menu with copilot and forcing ai in the system. The bloat will be worse too.
No more regular installations, only M$ store install ... wouldn't be surprised.
Well, I already won't touch Win11 so the same will hold for 12 if they implement that strategy.
if they do that it really will be unusable... i still use windows at work i really hope i dont have to deal with that
@@disasterarea9341 - 24H2 is already blocking apps like ExporerPatcher and quite a few others. Sadly it's only downhill from here.
Linux has doubled in users for a reason, some people just don't get it.🤔
Powercfg.cpl is not the same as efficiency mode. Newer power management stuff can work with it differently
For example, in energy efficiency mode for laptop users, it can use a different fan curve, tweak CPU power targets, reduce background app usage, and reduce some stuff not available to powercfg like memory speed, gpu speed. I believe powercfg.cpl only gives you the ability to cap your CPU clock speed based on a percentage, which isnt the same.
besides all the removed and added bloat, the sudo command exists perfectly working with the psutils from scoop. So no need to update for more unwanted stuff. let's wait with the update until handsome guys removed everything what's unwanted :-) thanks for testing!
If you have scoop package manager, you can just install the package sudo there for years now to have the sudo command working
Windows 11 feels trashy
Edge feels trashy
Copilot feels trashy
... and as for Bing, it should be renamed Bling.
The Edge news screen gives me jaundice.
Windows pushing me to clean everything and arrive to a result depending on my liking.
And finally the settings are all in a single unif...... ahhhhh nevermind, not yet!
6:45 So funny seeing titans of the TechTubers struggle with Gigabit and Gigabyte concept haha.
USB 4.0 is a thing it's coming soonish, go read them tech articles about them old sport.
First they took privacy away now they are taking functionality away all in the sake of trying to wrestle control over what you supposedly own away
Wi-Fi refresh button was on Windows 7, then they've removed it for some reason.
Can u make a gpu passthrough tutorial?
I do like Windows 11 in some cases in terms of design and some features, but the start menu (while it’s still better than Windows 8’s start menu), ads and copilot are the ones I don’t like.
When do they fix explorer randomly taking over my window focus
I did something great on weekend, was slow in coming and should have done it ages ago.
Loaded Server 2022 onto my system (Dell R7910) and ticked on the desktop daily divers stuff, now I have a OS back that has menues, features and a lot less shite. Back to fast, simple machine that is able to use its balls.
I use Nilesoft Shell for a much nicer looking "classic" right click menu. All the function of classic, with a nicer modern look.
I'd love to move ahead from W11 23H2, but since Microsoft backpedaled on not deprecating VR until W12 and decided to remove Windows Mixed Reality and OpenXR in 24H1, I have to stay on 23H2 until open-source alternatives are mature. 😢
Thanks for posting this video.
What is the bar at the top of your screen?
GlazeWM here is my video on it: ruclips.net/video/0I8HyVMKEeo/видео.htmlsi=UeJLmFRyJegjvWz3
Chris I use Open Shell for my start menu, another RUclipsr was claiming 22H2 will delete third party apps that customize Windows. Have you seen this or heard about it.

@@1MinuteFlipDoc but I think it has wm
@@GenZdev He uses GlazeWM on his Windows 11 VM. I only use Pop Shell on Linux and Rectangle on Mac for my window management needs as of now.
How to get that classic right click menu?
The worst thing about copilot is that they mandate the copilot key on every laptop. This key is completely useless but it's not possible to rebind in a useful way because it generates alt+shift+f23 scan code, i.e. it uses modifiers.
Wen MS broken up by Justice Department for vast anti-trust violations?
Oh, that's right, never.
When did the Justice Department ever broke up any corporation for vast anti-trust violations?
Oh, that's right, never. Because the US federal government is in bed with the corporations, unlike the EU that actually has the cojones to do something about them.
What browser are you using?
I love Windows 11. It made me a linux user (WSL) and Im never turning back to single boot linux :)
what's probably the worst thing about Copilot the adverts they have started on it. I don't know yet if its just the GTP-4 version or if they will slowly make them unavoidable, I just don't want them or want to have to block them
How are you switching between Windows and Linux like that?
Run Windows in a virtual machine inside Linux
Also "end task" button is available on previous versions
Right click end task is available in 23H2 not a 24H2 feature
I see the sudo thing as an absolute win. Not at all enough to switch me back from Linux, but it's good for those who use Windows.
I a software engineer using C# mainly. A stressing method in an application I tried to get both ChatGPT and GithubCopilot to write for me. They both did and worked. I did benchmark tests in visual studio 2022 and MY code used less memory and was faster that what the both AI spit out. I guess AI is a good just to get something quick. But it's not always the best.
In taskbar settings and under system tray icon there is a button for touch keyboard. make it on always and I would say it's an infinitely better keyboard than when you search touch keyboard and whatever the freak comes out.
Sudo on Windows... So, to make Windows better they copy Linux... Interesting.
I use the mail app all the time and it annoys me that Microsoft brazenly deletes it from my computer and replaces it with outlook
How to upgrade with WinUtil?
The sad thing is that with each update, the demand for powerful hardware goes up.
30 seconds ago is crazy
Thx, some r good enhancements however W11 is still missing tons of customizations I would expect it to have in 2024 and basically at launch. Somehow Windows continues to be schizophrenic OS with dualistic settings and weird unintuitive UI. Maybe M$ should hand it over to their most advanced AI😁
Ultimate performance/High Performance is a power suck. You should leave WIndows on Balanced mode, even if you are gaming. It will follow the proper boost clocks for your CPU instead of running them at max frequency, even at idle. For anyone watching this, especially those in countries where power costs a lot, only use Balanced. There is basically no performance hit AND you get the power savings when you are idle/not gaming. High performance mode is just generating heat and wasting power for no reason.
How can I disable this feature?
Is it feature complete?
I cant wait for your new scripts to get rid of this Copilot trash
nice Blast Win11 24H2.
