Definitions for Clarity:
Single malt Scotch is single malt whisky made in Scotland. To be a single malt scotch the whisky must have been distilled at a single distillery using a pot still distillation process and made from a mash of malted grain.
A blended scotch whisky is made by combining several single malts with wheat and/or corn whiskies in column stills.

Glenfiddich 12 was the first Scotch that I ever tried, and I absolutely loved it.
That drink is a fucking winner straight up👍
I just tried it today. It was my first one. Can't wait to see where to go next :)
@@andrewlabit did u enjoy it?
Awesome! Glad you're getting into whisky!
@@brownpunk1794 you know, it wasn't too bad. I'm broiling some meat right now and it went well with it. There was a hint of bitterness at the end I didn't like. I come from a quasi wine background - I love a good moscato. This wasn't too bad though (:
Being a longtime bourbon drinker, this was informative. I recently picked up the standard Glenmorangie and have been enjoying it. To me it really tastes like white wine at 40abv. Very sweet and fruity and easy to drink.
try ardbeg if you like pated whisky
Its Glenmorangie 10??
Dude, I am literally super happy that I found your channel. Keep them coming!
I'm glad to hear it :) thanks!
This is a wise move for the channel, a video that's both educational and a magnet for clicks. I hope to see lists like this for Irish whiskey, rye whiskey, mid-level whiskey, and high-end bourbons.
+physics2112 That's the plan! Canadian as well.
Oban 14 was my first single malt & made a believer out of me. Great review. Thanks!
I tried Laphroaig 10 early in my Scotch life and discovered I love Islay malts as a result. The smokier and peatier the better. :)
+Paul Sousa I would expect no less from you
My fav right now.
Laphroaig Lore is really good if you get the chance
I almost bought that yesterday!
Laphroaig 10 is absolutely divine. This was literally the first Scotch I had and I fell in love. Many of my friends find the taste completely off-putting but I found my palate loved every bit of it. This is a staple addition to my cabinet.
my first scotch was Chivas Regal 12, absolutely love it.
My mom forgot to bring me a gift when she was visiting her home country, so she got me a bottle at the airport on her way back. Can't say I was disappointed.
Awesome vid! I love the casual yet direct delivery, keep it up!
Wow! You have successfully picked each and every one of my favorite Scotches. Well done, you just earned another subscription.
Glad to hear it, and thanks for the sub!
What would you suggest I get to next? What's your current favorite dram that I haven't done a review on yet?
First one I had was laphroaig. Drinking that was the most memorable thing about that night. I don’t know if I liked it but boy did it leave an impression. I’ve had Monkey Shoulder recently and that got me into scotch. I’ve also had Johnnie Walker Green. Both are fantastic.
Glenlivet was my first scotch, definitely my gateway drink :)
+Adam Farnsworth I think a lot of people get that one first. It's part of the reason I made it first. Glad to hear I hit that one on the nose!
The Glenlivet 12 was my first scotch as well and I still keep a bottle on my shelf. Macallan is my preferred scotch maker overall with the 18 as the standard and the 12 a great regular dram, but Glenlivet is a close second. Glenlivet reminds me of fine champagne, with an extra kick of vanilla, pineapple, and ripe pears. Even the buzz seems to be peppier than other scotches or whiskies. The 15, 18, and 21 year olds are amazing with a profile that surpasses the competition at each level, and the 12 year is the best value buy on the market (especially at $30 a bottle). One of the best attributes of Glenlivet is that it doesn’t give you a hangover, though I’ve never drank half a bottle (4 shot maximum). The alcohol quality of Glenlivet is excellent, especially for the price. Glenmorangie 10 seems to be a guaranteed hangover past two shots and it nearly always has a burn (which I don’t mind, but it could put off some first timers), as well as weak nose. Glenfiddich 12 is too dominated by the pears for me. It’s like a Glenlivet imitation that just doesn’t have its best traits of fine champagne and an upbeat, pleasant buzz.
Overall, this is a really good starter list for scotches, though I’d recommend holding off on Laphroaig until trying the others. If you really like Ardbeg or Lagavulin, then give Laphroaig a shot. It’s a hit or miss product that could discourage first timers from delving deeper into the wonderful world of scotch.
I'm from the UK and it's strangely hard to find here especially in Scotland.
Oh man, me too. Just tried it now and I am in HEAVEN.
Awesome video. The Glenlivet 12 is my first Scotch and I love it.
I cheered when you brought up Glenmorangie 10 and Highland Park 12. Those are by far my favorite two. I go to the glen if I have a taste for a sweet, buttery and fruity scotch with no Smokey/woody notes. The Highland Park 12 was the perfect smoke wood balance for me and I actually enjoyed it just as much, if not more than the 18 year.
Likewise, but I don't get quite enough with the HP12. I've put in an order for some Benromach 10 to see if it has a skosh more peat.
Talisker with the smokey flavor omg n also i am in love with the Glenfiddich experimental flavors and johnny walker green label
First of all I need to say "Thanks" to you and your channel. I subscribed a few years ago when in my late 50's decided to discover whiskey. Your beginner's guide to bourbon led me to Buffalo Trace and others. But it did not take long to remember my grandfather telling me as a teen that "scotch is a man's drink". So I moved on to scotch (no more bourbon) and found this video very helpful. The 1st scotch I bought, based on your review, was Monkey Shoulder. Then I went to Pig's Nose (bought it just based on the interesting label), then Buchanan Deluxe 12 (which really took some time to love), then Talisker, and next yet to be opened is Highland Park (again based on your review). And yes- I love smoke and peat. Thanks again!
I started with Dalmore 12 year and loved it. Glenlevit 12 and Lagavulin 16 were next and now I'm hooked. I'm always on the lookout for the next good bottle and your videos have given me some great ideas. Thanks for making these videos and cheers.
Want something light, try Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or...aged in Sauterne wine casks.
First scotch I tried was Johnnie Black label. Keen to try some of the Islay whiskies.
Cheers
McCallen was my first scotch. Hated it. Had the Glenlivet 12 and loved it a few weeks ago.
Hey dude. Thanks for the great review. you're doing well! don't need to apologize. you're great.
Good video. Helped me line out some basics.
Balvenie 12 is a great place to start! I would also suggest the Johnnie Walker Green Label, which is one of my favorite from the line up.
Very helpful, I'd also recommend an aberlour 12 year. A very light, sweet and sippable dram
I'm liking your lists as I am a beginner to whiskey in general so these help me to buy something that I won't end up wasting money on.
Perfect!
Good video for beginners. Lagavulin 16 is the one make me felling in love with scotch!
Johnnie Walker black label was my first scotch, I love it
Is it smooth or strong?
It's very smooth, however some people consider it a little peaty (smokey). If that's not your thing, maybe consider Glenmorangie 10
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary I am from Missouri, so I am definitely looking into the Glenmorangie.
Thank you for the great video.
1 thing I can add to it is that good drink is always a matter of personal taste, personal preference. For example, I wouldn't spend my money on Glenfiddich 12 though I find Glenfiddich 21 absolutely amazing. I would pick any Lagavulin over any Lafroig.
It doesn't mean that those are bad, it just mean they are not right choice for me.
Thanks for the info, very helpful.
I was always, and still am a Bourbon drinker, but I had my first scotch a few years ago, Lagavulin 16... OMG, so good. I have now started trying more Scotches but I really love the Peated scotch.
Good List...
Lovely Selection...
Most of them are my Favourites, but haven't tried Macallan and Highland Park yet.....
I've seen quite a dozen of these introduction to scotch now, and the all seem to have Glenfidfiddich 12 on it as the gateway whisky for people who are completely green. My gateway whisky was Cardhu 12, which I would recommend over Glenfiddich 12 for starters. But a fine list none the less. 🙂
Good choices for starting out on the first steps of a scotch whisky journey...
Good explanations, especially Chivas Regal 12. I now know that I'm not alone...lol
Old Pulteney 12 is amazing!
I started with lagavulin 16 for scotch and absolutely love it. I've mostly been a cognac drinker, but I've been slowly stepping out and trying more things. Great video, and thanks for a nice list of what I should try next.
+Petey McEnroe Lag 16 is a solid dram yo start with!
Wow...I wish somebody had offered me a Lag 16 as a starter. That stuff cost me deep in the pocket.
Just found your chanel, such a gem. I am doing my hair and getting ready to go to the whiskey bar for the first time so trying to have a crash course by watching your videos lol
Nice! If you have time, look at my video here! I think it'll be a better crash course
ruclips.net/video/tM0c1R9wMKk/видео.html
I really enjoyed this video. I have tried Glenmorangie 10 and really liked it. Right now I have Monkey Shoulder and WOW!! What a joy to drink! I am going to have some fun trying the other ones you mentioned.
I'm glad you found it helpful! Let me know what you go to next!
My current favourites are Bowmore No.1 (and their 15 yr sherry oak) and Ardbeg Uigeadail. Both heavy peated but I prefer the Smokey flavours over sweeter and fruitier.
I like fruity and sweet but some of them are too sweet it like syrup like jack d.
After years of thinking Scotch was not my thing, based on Chivas, Johnnie Walker, Monkey Shoulder, etc., I tried Lagavulin 16 and everything changed. I LOVE the smokey peat of Islay whiskys.
It's so tasty
My first one was Aberfeldy 12, i really enjoyed it and it still is one of my favourites!
I agree with you100% on your choices, well done sir!
All great choices. Oban 14 woukd be a good addition too.
David Pepin was my first single malt & definitely hooked me.
Glenfiddich 12 is one of my favorites so far, i've been sticking with Ryes because they are about half the price of any of the single malt scotches for me.
The is quite a bit different from single malt, but it's good to have variety!
You had me at black label. My first scotch. Love it
Helpful video, thanks man!
Glenlivet was my gateway to the Scotch world, immediately followed by Laphroaig and now I can't stay without it.
I don't know why I like the peated smokey flavour of Laphroaig more than the fruity sweetness of the Glens. Especially the Glenmorangie.
Haven't tried ardbeg yet, but heard a lot about it. My search for it brought me here. Good job there mate. Keep on adding to the dictionary. Cheers !!
I love laphroaig
Buts it a Irish whiskey I think and is nice and peat flavoured
@@highlandninja9522 No, both Laphroaig and Ardbeg are distilled in Islay Island, Scotland, not in Ireland
If you like the peat, you could try a Talisker or Lagavulin, but that may be a generic response
Doesn't make it a bad one :)
Laphroaig 10 was the 3rd scotch i'd ever tried with only macallan and johnny walker being the first 2 and OH MY GOD I fell in love. Some people respond positively to the peat early on.
Laphroaig is my first Whisky and I love it!
I started with really smokey scotch a few weeks ago and i have begun to like it alot. Laphroaig quarter cask is my fav right now
Hey my friend I picked up a bottle of Glenfiddich 12 tonight first time having and to my surprise it’s really good. The nose is amazing as well as the taste. Thank you so much for suggesting this. I urge first time single malt whiskey 🥃 drinkers to definitely pick up a bottle. It’s so smooth, flavor profile is great 👍🏻 can’t go wrong with this one.
+Mark Lovejoy I'd better be careful what I suggest! You go out and buy them all!
Hope you're feeling better!
The Whiskey Dic thank you and yes I’m feeling a lot better. I can’t help my tastebuds and your suggestions lol
Mark Lovejoy it really easy drinking.
Mark Lovejoy Try the Glenlivet 12. It has a similar profile as Glenfiddich 12, but also has some champagne characteristics, vanilla, more pineapple, and a peppier buzz. Also, I’ve never had a hangover from any of the Glenlivets I’ve tried (12, 15, 18, and 21).
You should try Dalmore 12 year old very good single malt. Chivas Regal 25 year old though is good...but very very expensive.
Only the Macallan 12 to go... the rest is indeed worth trying for beginners. In fact I started with Monkey Shoulder and Highland Park 12..
Excellent Selection!
an excellently curated list of ten intro points for scotch. From here people can branch out to other distilleries offering the characteristics from whichever of these ten suits their taste buds. eg Jura or Dalmore or Aberlour etc.
Scapa, every time (Glansa or Skiren)... May not be easy to get hold of but its a fantastic Whisky for those of all tastes.
You had me at Glenfiddich.
Interesting list I may have to try some of those, I actually enjoy Scotch!!! I have tried Glenfiddich Single Malt 15 year never the 12 year one
I have been drinking Crown Reserve for years, but have recently made a new friend at work who talks about his love for Scotch. He gave me some beginner suggestions and they are quite similar to this video, which is very well done. As I write this comment, i have just tasted my first sip of scotch. I went with the Glenmorangie 10. I find it very smooth and flavorful. Not quite the bitter, smokey flavor i was expecting. Very nice mellow buzzy feel within a couple of sips. I like it very much and look forward to testing lots of others. Thanks for the video!
That’s great! There is a wide world of Scotch out there :)
I’ve spent the better half of the last 3 hours going through your videos lol. Underrated channel for sure, cheers! 🥃
Edit: Have you done a video on Woodford Reserve original?
Thank you! Binge watching new channels is always fun!
I did do original woodford. Its early on. If you check my main whiskey dictionary playlist it will come up pretty quickly
Hi - I felt ardberg was peatier than the Laphroaig .. and enjoyed the smooth rish Laphroaig more. thx for the list - enjoyed your vid. Cheers
Agree 100%
Awesome video. I like the ballantaines.
After the first few Glenlivets and Glenfiddichs, I have to say, Tobermory 10 is a great island whisky for those who want something different. It's complex, but not anything crazy that someone fairly new to whisky couldn't appreciate.
Great choices Bill!
+Scotch Test Dummies That means a lot coming from you! Thanks
Scotch test dummies! Great channel as well.
+Kurt Marion They are top tier!
The Whiskey Dic love the list! Another scotch I'd recommend is glendronach 12 for a little sherry flavour. It's very close to glenmorangie in price and not over the top intense.
+Kurt Marion Great suggestion!
I personally like Glen Moray as an every day scotch. Not overly complex but very drinkable and a very affordable single malt. Good for someone whose whisky palate isn’t well developed yet.
I've not tried, yet. Their line is definitely occupying the bottom shelf in the Scotch section.
I was glad to see that you had a Highland Park whisky in your list and I would go further to suggest to Scotch beginners that they try Highland Park Magnus. It's incredibly smooth on the palate with hints of toffee with smoky notes not usually found in such an easy to drink beverage.
Great list!
I think this is a pretty good list, to be honest. Especially with the caveat of "starter" whisky. When I first started with scotch, I tried Johnnie Walker, but it didn't quite do it for me. But the very first sip of Glenmorangie 10 on the rocks got me hooked big time. From there, I've sampled every type I could get, and I buy rotating bottles of a few different favorite brands, but Glenmoranie will always hold that special place in my heart. And... in my liquor cabinet.
Have you tried any other types of glenmorangie?
I did. I tried the sherry cask aged one and didn't quite like it very much. Then again, that was many years ago and it might be time to give it another go.
I bought the Glenmorangie 12 Port cask aged yesterday and I gotta say it's not too bad. I do wish I could find just regular older Glenmorangie around here, tho.
Tried several brands, got to say really enjoyed Glenfiddich 12, was really smooth and drinkable...
Glenmorangie so far close second...
Instablaster...
Laphroaig 10 was my first scotch. I was hooked.
Bunnahabhain 12 was one of the first I tried, and it really amazed back then.
I haven't had Laphroaig, but I've had lagavulin before. I guess licking a campfire log is a good description of heavily smoked whiskey 🤣
+Walter Engle i considered putting that one on the list too. O really had to from the list to keep it a reasonable size
I describe Lagavulin as tasting like sucking on a Betadine swab with notes of burnt pot handle (for those old enough to remember Bakelite pot handles). And while I will stand by that description, it in no way communicates what a good whisky it is.
+gotshpilkes oof
Walter Engle Lagavulin is intense, a bit much for a beginner.
Try Springbank 10 or any Bruichladdih if you can, a bit more intensd but great drams!
I prefer Lagavulin 16 to Laphroaig, but they are very similar and Laphroaig is about half the price. They are both really good scotches to drink if you have had a rough day.
My first bottle was Balvenie Doublewood 12y and I highly recommend anything offering from them. Also, Glendronach > Macallan Sherry any day, esp price
Balvenie is god tier
At 32 years old I had Scotch for the first time in The Balvenie 12 year DoubleWood and it has me hooked. I just bought a four bottle taster set of Glenmorangie 10yr, 12yr Sherry, 14yr Port, and Sauternes Cask. I wish these didn't get me drunk so fast so I could spend all day trying them out lol.
Laphroaig is a bit bold for a beginner unless they fancy a cigar or black coffee. In my opinion, I love it. Excellent suggestions 🙏🤙🤙🤙
Good choices, Balvenie 12 double wood is also awesome
+Dimitar Bahariev it almost made the list
The Whiskey Dic then maybe Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 12 :)
My favs are:
The Balvenie: Caribbean Cask
&
Glenlivet: 15 Year
It’s always changing and evolving, I’ve recently developed a taste for Ardbeg with Laphroig being the gateway.
Ooo peaty whiskies are a fun change!
Terrance Clifford I have that Balvenie currently and its delightful. I’m aiming next for the Glenlivet 15 year.
Glenfiddich rich oak was my first one. It grew on me after a while haha
Thanks for the video. I am about to take a dip into the Scottish pool and needed a place to start. Cheers!
Happy to help!
My first Scotch was a Glenfiddich 12, after that i had Chivas and then things got seroius. I advanced to Oban and Talisker and after several other brands I lingered over the Islay Single malts that are at least clearly peated. Lagavulin, Laphroaig and Ardbeg are my favorites, they are affordable, they have taste and fire, they make me feel like taking a walk at the beach in a heavy storm but having the feeling that I am safe because the elder ones protect me.
Single malt is not just a beverage, it is a religion.
Don´t get me wrong: I also like the Highlanders and lots of others but the ones from the islands are more what I prefer.
+1337fraggzb00N 31337 h4x0r :)
Love me some Islay too!
very poetic. : )
Glenfiddich 12 is nice. Yesterday I was having a dram and I tasted almonds for the first time. My eyes went wide in amazement :))
Anyway, good video!
Such a cool feeling when you taste something new. It's happened to me a couple times on camera, I end up sitting there for a minute before I remember I'm filming.
Glenfiddich 12 was also my first single malt to go into a little deeper than just going down on it at a party. Until then I thought I had really bad nose and palate at smelling and tasting all of the individual notes in whiskeys (mainly because I mostly drank mainstream blends like Jack Daniel's, Grant's, JW Red Label... maybe If I came back to them now I'd smell and taste more with the experience I gained). But MAN, Glenfiddich 12 had so amazingly distinctive taste of fresh apples, and pears and a bit of citrus, that in was not only enjoyable experience, but it also brought back my faith in my smelling and tasting abilities. Moreover, I've read the tasting notes of Glenfiddich after the tasting and It matched with what I could tell from my glass... AMAZING...
@@DexXx84 If you have the budget, or the chance, try an Isla or Talisker whisky. I had a bottle of Laphroig 10 that paradoxically got better after about 3 months from the point of opening. I could taste so many things in that damn whisky. Honestly, if you are a responsible drinker, don't waste money on the highly promoted entry level stuff that is mainly for mixing and getting drunk and ""invest"" in something distinctive that can be enjoyed in moderation over a longer period of time.
Or... hunt for goof quality blends. Isla Mist for example costs about the same as a bottle of Johnny Red Label and in my opinion is worlds above.
@@Grannn Let me mention that the same night I had that Glenfiddich, I also had a glass of Ardbeg 10... I think that's enough said already... :D
@@DexXx84 I should report your post out of petty envy :))
I totally agree about the smokiness of Laphroaig 10.
Just getting into Scotch myself and find your video helpful as to which brands to attempt next. So far I've tried the Balvenie 12, The Dalmore 12, Glenlivet 12, and Glenmorangie 10 all of which I found to my liking, if I had to pick a favorite from those....probably The Dalmore. Can't wait to try the others you mention! Thanks for the video.
+slightlydisturbed1 My pleasure! I'm glad you're enjoying it!
I think Glenlivet French oak reserve 15 would be a great started scotch is fruity with vanilla and oak notes it's very smooth going down to
foe hammer The 15 is one of my absolute favorites. The 18 and 21 are better, but not by much and the price becomes prohibitive for the 21. Glenlivet has excellent alcohol quality. I’ve never had a hangover from them and the buzz and profile remind of fine champagne like Moët, VC, and Dom Pérignon.
I drank all the major ones... but want to try 3 of lesser known..
Thanks for your recommendation.
5:27 - Highland Park 12
5:56 - Ardbeg 10
6:32 - Laphroaig 10
Coconut Joe , can't wait until you try the ones you listed. they are my all time favorites so far. I'd suggestHighland first, Laphroaig second and Ardbeg last. Ardbeg is one of the smokiest scotches. Enjoy!
Actually,those three are very well-known.
@@amradzinovic4086 Agree.. but not to a beginner Scotch drinker.
After trying several dozen, Oban 14 was definitely my favourite. Try it!
I’m new to whiskey in general and Monkey Shoulder is my favorite so far of the various bourbons and scotch’s I’ve tried!
Surprised you didnt mention the peat in Highland Park
I started off with Black Bottle and to this day its my favourite blend. I'd recommend it to anyone
+Luke Tucker I still order it at a bar occasionally
Great video - I was also introduced to Scotch through a few of the expressions on your list. Two decades later I still find myself reaching for them at times. Cheers!
Thanks!
Just bought a bottle of Glenmorangie Lasanta 12. My first single malt. Looking forward to it. Based on your description, I think I'd really enjoy Laphroaig given I'm a huge fan of Latakia pipe tobacco. Love that campfire smoke!
Sounds like you WOULD like it!
I have tried almost all from that list. Ardbeg and Maccallan are surely on my bucket list. I can add Talisker to that list of good starters. They have the regular 10 and the Skye which is smoother and the storm which is heavy. Laphroaig is peatier and wouldn't recommend for starters.
I would suggest Oban and/or Glengoyne.
love Glengoyne, totally underrated
Always nice to see a good introductory list! The first whisky that got me on the single malt train was Old Pulteney 12, sampled at a small restaurant/pub in Kyleakin. Since coming back from a Scotland, I’ve been doing a “region tour”, sampling something from each of the 5. I’m a little surprised that the lowlands weren’t mentioned. I found an Aucthentoshan 12 to be an easy introduction, their triple wood an excellent next step. Arian’s Lochranza Reserve is a FANTASTIC expression, with perhaps the most complexity I’ve found so far. I’ve also found that Campbelltown (Springbank 10 and Glen Scotia), there’s more of a spice, so for those that like kick, that may be a route to go.
Hear, hear! My first experience was getting off the train in Keith, Scotland, because I'd seen the bright red Chivas tank cars on a railroad siding. I spent the night in Keith and was told Chivas' Strathisla Distillery was closed (and, not worth it), but I was in luck because there was another distillery in town, the Strathmill. So, on my way back to the train station the next morning, I stuck my head in to the courtyard at Strathmill to find a group of white coated men gathered in conference. When I asked it they gave tours, I got "Ach, tours? Sure, I'll give you a tour." And off we went. The spring water, the barley unloading, the malting vats, the drying floors, the mash vats and then the distillation pot room...and out into an open warehouse to see all the barrels (the excise man was on premises, inspecting). At the end of the tour, we returned to the group in the courtyard, where I found that the gent who'd given me the tour was the manager. The gathering offered up a beaker of amber fluid to my guide, who took it an sniffed it as somebody said it was twelve years. My guide handed me the beaker and said, "Here, this is yours, but we'll be keeping the beaker." It was a good six ounces of whisky. I told my guide that I couldn't drink that much in short order and catch a train. "Aye, well, drink what you can. We'll have to toss it in the bin, any way." So, I sampled my very first single malt Scotch at Strathmill Distillery, in Keith, Scotland, a Justerini & Brooks distillery. I has a pleasant ride into Inverness that morning.
Auchentoshan Threewood is my current fave. Glenmorangie rocks, and Glen Scotia is a welcome new find. I wish I could get Springbank here in the stix.
I'm 25 and I've been drinking random whiskeys for a few years, finally decided to try scotch, so I picked up a bottle of dewers, because the lady at the liquor store said they sell a lot of those. I'm hooked. this is awesome. they added the flavor of dirt to whiskey and Im all about it
Hah! Love when comments like this come up. Dewers is a good choice, can't wait to see what else you get into.
Old Pulteney 12 and The Balvenie 12 doublewood would be two i would put on a beginner's guide. I also think Ardbeg 10 is a good introduction to peat, you don't need to recommend Laphroaig 10. If someone has Ardbeg 10 and wants something with more peat, sure, recommend Laphroaig...
Ml
You might amend your definitions and explain the difference between blended scotch (Chivas) and blended malt (monkey shoulder). You left out the fact that blended scotch contains (usually large amounts of) grain whisky, a complete different animal from malt whisky. Just a thought.
I had both of those points in my notes, and totally forgot to bring them up in the take I ended up keeping for the video!
I'll add that to the video description. Thanks for the feedback.
Happens to the best of us. Cheers.
Good options...will pick up a few
Great informative video! Im a beginner to the scotch world. Just bought a bottle of Johnnie walker black (my first scotch) and its really good to drink neat!
I'm psyched to hear that! As I said in the video, it's where I started. I think it's a solid intro.
Aberlour 12
and the Aberlour a'bunadh is quite nice
Balvenie 12 double wood would be good too
+great207 I was really tempted to put that one on the list... I capped it at 10 but it was probably #11
Probably my favorite scotch
Just picked this one up yesterday and I have to say that it's my favorite so far in this adventure! Glenfiddich 12 also has it's special place on my bar rack.
My first whisky was Bushmills. My first Scotch was prolly Johnnie Walker Black, but I don't really remember. Chivas was what got me off the train in Keith, Scotland, and the tour of the Strathmill Distillery leading to my first taste of a single malt whisky. Then, after visiting Scotland, I sampled several and decided on Glenfiddich 12. Over the years, I drifted into sherried whisky and shifted to Glenfiddich 15 Solera, which graced my cabinet for decades (with a lurking bottle of Laphroaig 10 for contrast and comparison - creosote). These days, Glenmorangie is a major contender in my collection. I presently have a bottle of Quinta Ruban and a bottle of Nectar d'Or...Shazaam! As I've grown more sophisticated, I've wandered the more expensive sherried whiskies, and then, later some of the peated whiskies. Bunny 12 is there, too. Auchentoshan Three Wood is my current favorite.
Great video Bill. I was introduced to scotch by a colleague who offered Glenfarclas 12. A nice fruity, sherried Speysider that is a great beginner scotch.
Thanks Jeff! The world of Scotch Is happy to have you!
