    This was helpful. I'll definitely use this knowledge next time I polish my boat.

    Hi there! I have a Pet Grooming Trailer. It is made with .040 aluminum trailer and it is all white. I do not know the differences in Aluminum but I am told it is .040 aluminum and it is white not silver. Don't know the difference but I would like to buff and wax. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

      @OutdoorsmanChannel  Год назад

      Treat it like you are buffing paint. If it's painted be less aggressive. Lighter polish and dual action polisher

    Do you think this would work with aluminium that's about 4 or 5 times more corroded? Also is there much difference between a $100 dollar vs $600 buffer, in terms of how good the finish is?

    • @OutdoorsmanChannel
      @OutdoorsmanChannel  Год назад

      Yes it will work. Consider wet sanding first. Don't let jabbing the right tool stop you. People used to polish things by hand and it looked great. Usually more expensive polishers do the work faster

      There are some great chemical aluminum cleaners, like Purple Power or Starbright. You spray it on with a spray bottle, let it work for a few minutes, then hose it off. It works well, and provides a great base to begin polishing!

    Looks great! Just picked up a Lund with the same paint and aluminum bottom. Curious how you cleaned up the paint?

    • @OutdoorsmanChannel
      @OutdoorsmanChannel  2 года назад

      Didn't do paint. Ours was too thin and old. I suggest determining if there is a clear coat, if there is follow car detailing procedure. If there is no clear coat, you need to be a bit more careful look at buffing older cars etc. The only concern is burning right through the paint. What year is it?

    How often do you do this?
    It looks great! I live in Michigan with a lot of tannic acid in the water towards fall.

      If you keep it waxed and clean not often. If not it will oxidize pretty quick

    All you need is some Mothers Mag & Chrome cleaner and a cheap car buffer. You can do the whole boat in about an hour.

    You would most likely get a better result with a rotary buffer and using a less aggressive pad that does more polishing and less cutting.

    • @OutdoorsmanChannel
      @OutdoorsmanChannel  6 лет назад

      Yes your right. It would be much faster, but I wanted to show the results of a dual action.

    Try Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish, very cost effective. I like 3m products on Gel Coat, Finesse It 2, but kind of expensive.

      Actually dont own the boat anymore. I'm sure it would work nicely. Also would work good with a microfiber cutting pad or rotary buffer with wool. Thanks for the comment!

    Interesting video. How long does the shine last before the aluminium oxidises ?

    • @OutdoorsmanChannel
      @OutdoorsmanChannel  6 лет назад

      urbanimage depends how often you use the boat condition etc. For us about 1 year without wax it still looks shiny after a year just noticeably reduced. If you waxed I imagine a very long time.

      Hi, Thank you for your reply. I'm surprised that it lasts that well. I'm in the UK and have an aluminium canal narrowoboat that needs re-painting or possibly stripping back and polishing, which is why I was interested in your

    looks good. I'm glad I found your video because I have the same torq 10fx for car detailing and I was going to use it on my bass tracker. I am thinking about buying a cheap rotary buffer at harbor freight and see if it will do a good job vs the dual action with clutches.

      I'm not surprised that putting oil on metal makes it look very shiny. If you actually want to polish it and make it last I suggest a quality polish and wax. Thanks for watching!

    • @hychap
      @hychap 2 года назад +1

      @@OutdoorsmanChannelI understand your response but perhaps it would suprise you to know that wd40 was designed as a solvent and there's more going on that just making it shiny with oil.. give it a good rub with wd40 solvent, it gets smooth nice and quickly, costs hardly anything, clean it off, polish it.. good to go..

      Wouldn't use steel wool on aluminum. Marine stores sell bronze wool for boats which doesn't rust. Wet sanding with 3000 grit does a great job but is a lot of work.
