I've played melee competitively for 9 years but I've got a lot of love for brawl Some match-ups are extra entertaining to play/spectate Rebaz & Izaw used to do some nuts stuff with low tiers too
Born in 2001 i was technically too young to see consoles like the n64, but because of my older brothers i had the chance to play every nintendo console at a young age. Also played all smash titles. Me personally had the most fun with brawl, because everyone in my age group around me was more familiar with the wii so we played brawl most of the time. Brawl was a big part of my childhood and i really love that game
For Single-Player : It is absolutely the best thanks to Sub-Space For Multi-Player : No, it was the worst. Too mechanically broken and unbalanced in so many ways.
I personally disliked Sub-Space Emissary, but I really appreciated the amount of single player content and unlockables otherwise. Also, the actual gameplay was slower and intentionally janky.
Every time I hear anyone praise Brawl as one of the best in the series, they end up focusing so much on the single-player side of Smash that I feel like they out themselves as having no friends to play the main content of the game with.

If only they made a subspace emmasarry like story for smash ultimate a story with the smash ultimate roster where every single charater gets their own significant part and screen time i wanna live in that universe i love smash bros brawl
Brawl is to this day the best Smash title and only Melee comes close, the simple reason being, content. Subspace Emissary alone is more content than Smash 4 and Ultimate have combined, all the characters don't matter if there is no real content. Slipping is honestly the only real problem Brawl has.
I saw the pinned comment and feel like it was hella unwarranted. This comment is coming from a melee veteran. Ranked in Southern California for 2 ranking periods Played melee for 5 years and i STILL think brawl is a much more fun game. Id rather play brawl with my friends than melee, smash 4 or ultimate. And that includes if im playing someone my level The more relaxed feel of brawl and easy on the eyes graphics are why I feel this way. I also just think it has the absolute best music in the entire series. And come on, subspace emissary? FIRE. Literally no smash game has a story mode like that. Also the online play was not THAT bad. If you were able to get a lan adapter it was actually playable. Not competitive but fun playable. Spent many nights playing with friends and making our own custom taunts. Speaking of which, whyd they take those out??!?! They were so fun!!! Lastly the ability to get demos to other games via the vault system was amazing and the ability to play brawl minus or project M make brawl an absolute CLASSIC Anyways, fantastic video and dont listen to the other players who think you missed everything. It’s ridiculous to expect someone to find every single fucking piece of research to talk about Cant wait to see what else you make :)
The Subspace Emissary was amazing. I can’t tell you how many times I replayed that with friends. I was actually very disappointed with World of Light. The single player was the main thing I was looking forward too in Ultimate. (Favorite cut scene is when Captain Falcon and Olimar meet)
Subspace Emissary raised kid me and I have such fond memories of that game. To this day I still know what half those characters are thanks to Brawl. Also it’s what got me into Kirby with how much I loved Meta Knight.
Brawl was undoubtedly what made smash what it is today, the art direction, the story mode, music, testing the waters with licensing of non-nintendo characters it really felt like more than a sequel When you ask people nowadays it's usually "brawl bad it's competitively broken" but in 2007 how many people were trying to win hundreds of thousands at tournaments? Brawl delivered in so many ways it's a shame that we boil our retrospective judgment down to: "can it be competitive or no"
I think Smash Bros Brawl is incredibly underrated, it's a Smash game, how can it possibly be bad? It might not be the same has Melee, but that game changed the Smash Bros. Series forever.
I think Smash Bros Brawl is one of the most misunderstood games to ever be released, and I'm glad that enough time has passed that there is now a desire to talk about it outside of its relation to other entries in the series. Given that Melee was such a huge leap for the series, I find it even more amazing that the team was able to make a leap just as gigantic with the third entry. Brawl stood out from everything else there was at the time. While yes, the art style is the most recognizable aspect of this (also partially done due to the lack of much of a processing upgrade from the GameCube to the Wii), it's important to remember that Nintendo in this era was dominated by blue ocean strategy. Everything was about really going back to the basics and examining why certain things worked or didn't. Even big titles like Mario Galaxy were about this philosophy. Here, apart from everything else, stood Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a BIG game focused on just absolutely showcasing the best that the industry had to offer. Even Iwata himself stated "In general, I think that making a game bigger is oftentimes not the way to make it better, but with Super Smash Bros. I see things differently." Smash for Wii U and 3DS was actually not the first time that two Smash games were being developed simultaneously, as Subspace Emissary was originally meant to be developed with another studio before resources dictated that both would need to be manned by the same team. Given that the staff was significantly increased from Melee to Brawl and therefore there was a lot going on structurally at the time, this was no easy task. Though Melee started this philosophy with Trophies, Brawl cemented the idea of a game being an exhaustive fountain of knowledge paying tribute to the games industry, acting almost as an interactive encyclopedia in some ways. Masterpieces and Chronicle both stand as some of my favorite features to be put in any game, and the concept of My Music was revolutionary, not even commenting on the unprecedented scale of music the final game would feature. The game had to be manufactured on a dual-layered disc because it was so large. And the leadup to Brawl? God, it was simply magical. If you couldn't tell, this game played a huge part in my formative years and still continues to inspire me today. I learned so much about videogames through not only Brawl itself, but the Brawl Dojo and the hundreds of RUclips videos of fan-made characters and rosters. Every character would feature that classic sky-colored gradient background, and if you were really lucky, they might even lower the brightness and contrast to make the Google image they took "fit in" with the art style. The Brawl Dojo was simply genius marketing that I don't think had been done before for a game (please correct me if I'm wrong, I'd love to know). As strange as this sounds, it reminds me of how the 2008 Obama campaign was the first to really take advantage of social media. However, Brawl is not a perfect game by any means (Well actually, it is perfect, like all Smash games, but I have a very stupid definition of "perfect" which is not based on lack of flaws). Despite my complete adoration so far, I am a person who really loves Project M (which I would respectfully say is a lot more than "Brawl made to play like Melee"), and putting myself in the place of a die-hard competitive Melee fan, it hurts to think of Brawl as a bit of a betrayal of that. Melee, also a perfect creation, has amazing depth and potential when viewed through a competitive lens, but I feel it's always been a bit of a shame that the competitive view has overshadowed other parts of Melee (Part of why I love Sakurai's recent video talking about it; there's a lot more to Melee than people think about). You yourself at 6:13 use footage of a competitive match to show how Mewtwo was beloved by fans, which isn't a "mistake", but does really go to show how much Melee has come to be defined by the tournament scene above everything else. I would even go so far as to defend Brawl on a competitive level (If you look up Snake or Wario highlights by MVG, there are some really clever things being done there), but you simply cannot play it the way you would play Melee. Given that it's a sequel, it would be unreasonable to expect people to instantly and automatically change that. A lot more than just "tripping" or "no wavedashing", there are choices in Brawl that really disappoint on a competitive level, and I think it's logical for people to be upset by that. However, at risk of sounding (more) pretentious, I feel I "get" the reasoning. If the core fighting is the "heart" of Smash Bros, then there is also a "soul". The core fighting is absolutely essential, but there is SO much more to this series than just that. As if I haven't gone on long enough, I think that Brawl has the lowest lows of the series but also reaches some of the highest highs, and how much a person is willing to put up with that balance in any work of fiction is personal preference. Even I can't say it is the "best" one (that's a reductive discussion anyway) but it is (just barely) my personal favorite game in the series based on how inherently linked it is to my upbringing.
This is how I describe Brawl: This game is the greatest thing I have ever seen, but I also really hate it and it burns my eyes. This game is the best and worst thing to happen.
Yes. Most fun. I feel like since there became more of a competitive focus that's not as many unique innovations like final smashes and assisst trophies.
I'm really glad to see someone else suggest that brawl is the best. It had so many great features and modes that it makes it the best smash for fun rather than competitive play
Brawl surely stands out from other Smash games with that art style. It has my personal favorite single player experience in all the games and I look back at it pretty fondly.
I'd love if the armor and weapon cracking returned but was purely cosmetic. Like, if you get to 100% and get hit with a powerful attack it would crack the armor on your character, similar to how fatigue animations work in other games but much easier to do than making animations for every fighter.
Oh also, super powerful attacks like Little Mac's KO punch, almost every final smash, Sepheroth's full charge explosion, etc, would all slightly crack the armor at any percent
There was absoloutely nothing cooler than asking myself where sonic is throughout to the entire story only to see him pull up at the end as the hero saving every universe and freeing everyone. It went so fucking hard
Brawl was my first Smash game. I love it dearly but going back to it after playing Ultimate or Smash 4 is just painful. It's INSANELY easy to mod though, so easy that all you need is a Wii, the game itself, a 2 gigabyte sd card, and a boot up code! Modding Smash is something I've always wanted to do, but its very difficult and risky with any other game... especially on Switch. And personally, I prefer when Smash isn't overly competitive... competitive play just tends to bring controversy and basically turns into politics. I greatly prefer actually being able to combo though, Brawl is severely lacking in that aspect.
Hold the phone I found an incredibly underrated RUclipsr who gives me a good time and has a cool voice. And gave me nostalgia in the ds video? U deserve a sub Kermit.
It wasnt a designed mechanic, it was just a natural function of the physics engine (thus not a glitch either). It was "intentional" in as far as they knew about it from early testing and decided not to change it, but they also didnt think it'd be used all that much either.
Personally for me, yes. It is, it was the first smash game to come out for me. And I loved Sonic's inclusion. Being 5 it was the greatest goddamn game ever for me and I can't ignore the nostalgia I have for it. So my theory for the damage to weapons and armor thing is that it wouldn't actually cause any debuffs and was purely cosmetic, similar to little Macs slowly bruising face throughout fights.
Brawl was my very first intro to the series, and In forever grateful because it was great, even when I played it when I was younger. I wholeheartedly agree that Brawl is better than Melee in some areas, it's just...damn. what a kickass game.
Super Smash Bros Brawl change my life forever because of how truly Godlike this game was for me so yes it is the best one and I'll dare to say it's even better than Ultimate.
Brawl is easily my favorite fighting game. Part of that might just be nostalgia, but it is the only fighting game I've been able to find that isn't unfriendly to casual players. And between all the modes and collectibles, it's easily the most replayable one unless you're heavily into the competitive scene.
I totally get that. I feel like brawl kinda puts everyone on slightly more equal level with the slower pace. It’s the best to get people who aren’t familiar into the series imo
Fighting games are no more unfriendly to casual players than any other genre of competitive game. You just need to play against people of similar skill level. Somebody who actually knows what he's doing can still fuck you up, in Brawl, because, despite Nintendo's best efforts, there is still some skill involved in playing it. The only difference is, in Brawl, the whole process will be much slower, and less interesting.
Smash Dojo was the most hype thing ever i remember checking that site every day after school and when new characters were announced I literally shit. One of the best marketing campaigns in gaming imo.
Armor and weapon damage would’ve been pretty cool in my opinion. I wish ultimate had a mode with that enabled (FOR CASUAL PLAY ONLY). I love the bells and whistles of Brawl, and I wish they had another year or two to iron it all out. It could’ve been so much cooler. Brawl was my first smash game, and since I was clueless and we only had Wii remotes, there was no crazy tech going on when I played. Competitively, Brawl was a nightmare, but casually, it was amazing.
Brawl was my first Smash game. I do believe that, overall, it is the best Smash game in terms of total content. We played the subspace emissary so many times. We LOVED boss battles mode. My siblings and I competed in everything. Break the targets, home run contest, everything. And we made tons of custom stages to fight on. If not for Brawl targeting casuals, I probably wouldn't even play Smash today. It was the ultimate casual experience. It was FUN. Heavy true combos (like in Smash Ultimate) detract from games. One person can't do anything while the other person does, uncreatively, what they always do. I could replace one with a potato chip and the other with a bot. A game where true combos are minimal is a game that creates better players. It requires reads, baits, foresight, and actually using your brain. I seem to be alone in the belief that true-combo heavy games are worse design, but I'm sticking with it.
As a Melee Fan? Just looking at the title, I can say this much: It certainly wasn't the worst, like a lot of people say. I like Brawl a lot. Yeah, it's not as competitive and mechanically nuanced as Melee or even Ultimate, but it knew that. Brawl was a family party game, and it was honest about that. "Yeah, no wombo combos here. Get with it or gtfo". I respect that; and for what it was, Brawl was a hella fun game.
Nice video. Yah. Brawl has an epic theme and amazing story mode. I wish they had expanded on it in later titles, but I know that's a lot of work. And yah, tripping is dumb.
At 3:25 that's not Brawl. It's a mod called Project M ( now called P+) which takes it's inspiration from Melee and restores many of the movement options and physics from it's predecessor. That's the reason why In this clip you're seeing a combo string. You can also see a flash of white after an aerial on the wolf with the tag "4Tou~" which indicates a successful L cancel.
My brothers and I have been diehard SSB fans since the very first game came out. We seem to all agree that Melee is the best. At least when it comes to PvP matches. The maps were legendary. Poké Floats will forever be our favorite.
2 years development is generous speaking, more like 13 month for the JPN & US release (ntsc) and then some relaxing months if the game isnt broken (for pal)
Definitely not.

I feel similarly about Brawl and 64. They both have quite a bit of jank in them, but they are fun to play with friends. Out of the 5 games, Brawl is in the middle of the pack for me.
I'd argue 64 and Melee's relative responsiveness makes them way more fun to play than the other Smash games
7:11 Lmao same thing happened to me as a kid. I was (still am) a fan of the Kirby series, and Meta Knight is my favorite character. So I naturally mained Meta Knight when I played brawl, completely unaware of how busted he was
Man if you had like 3 years worth of content I’d binge it all I swear to you
I've played melee competitively for 9 years but I've got a lot of love for brawl
Some match-ups are extra entertaining to play/spectate
Rebaz & Izaw used to do some nuts stuff with low tiers too
no way this guy only has 2,000+ subscribers. his entertaining commentary and purely outstanding editing shows he should be getting more than 2k.
Don't let people pigeonhole your channel into what it should be. Make content you think should be made, trust me it's more worth it in the long run
Brawl was a big part of my childhood and i really love that game
i just found this channel. and man i love it. keep doing what you’re doing
For Single-Player : It is absolutely the best thanks to Sub-Space
For Multi-Player : No, it was the worst. Too mechanically broken and unbalanced in so many ways.
Ultimate is better for multiplayer.
I personally disliked Sub-Space Emissary, but I really appreciated the amount of single player content and unlockables otherwise. Also, the actual gameplay was slower and intentionally janky.
@@murkywaters5502 how dare you its better then spirits story
Every time I hear anyone praise Brawl as one of the best in the series, they end up focusing so much on the single-player side of Smash that I feel like they out themselves as having no friends to play the main content of the game with.
@@traviscunningham7062 Local? Sure. Online is unplayable, laggy garbage even when me and my buddy who both use Ethernet cables try to play together. The input lag is insane and I am impressed by anyone who somehow get used to it.
Just binged through all your videos, i really love your content and i hope you keep making more!!! Keep up the good work
I appreciate the idea of the video but I simply can't help pointing out that 3:24 is in fact a clip from project M, a mod for brawl that ironically makes the game more like melee
I can't blame you for being blinded by the sickness of it though, pm wolf is legendary
I didn’t even realise. I was scrolling through brawl comp highlights and that was my favourite. Makes sense why it looked so sick lmao thank you
If only they made a subspace emmasarry like story for smash ultimate a story with the smash ultimate roster where every single charater gets their own significant part and screen time i wanna live in that universe i love smash bros brawl
Yes, It had the Subspace trio
Your first video got blessed by the algorithm and now I'm here. You got a new sub man👍🏾
Dude your use of Memes in between is superb. And 👍 for using JSRF music.
6:46 "The aptly-named Meta Knight."
I'm dead. I don't know why, but man, that killed me.
Brawl is the definition of high school it’s truly a classic! 2008 was one of the best years In gaming!
Brawl is to this day the best Smash title and only Melee comes close, the simple reason being, content. Subspace Emissary alone is more content than Smash 4 and Ultimate have combined, all the characters don't matter if there is no real content.
Slipping is honestly the only real problem Brawl has.
This game was my childhood!
So they got pissed because Nintendo had gotten cleaned up the flaws of melee. Cope and seethe
I loved turning fans on only. It became a game of who gets hit first and who is better at mashing. Its chaos.
I saw the pinned comment and feel like it was hella unwarranted. This comment is coming from a melee veteran. Ranked in Southern California for 2 ranking periods
Played melee for 5 years and i STILL think brawl is a much more fun game. Id rather play brawl with my friends than melee, smash 4 or ultimate. And that includes if im playing someone my level
The more relaxed feel of brawl and easy on the eyes graphics are why I feel this way.
Lastly the ability to get demos to other games via the vault system was amazing and the ability to play brawl minus or project M make brawl an absolute CLASSIC
Anyways, fantastic video and dont listen to the other players who think you missed everything. It’s ridiculous to expect someone to find every single fucking piece of research to talk about
Cant wait to see what else you make :)
Thanks for the kind words man! And yes holy the custom taunts I completely forgot those where gold
The Subspace Emissary was amazing. I can’t tell you how many times I replayed that with friends. I was actually very disappointed with World of Light. The single player was the main thing I was looking forward too in Ultimate.
(Favorite cut scene is when Captain Falcon and Olimar meet)
“Sonic Hedgehog from the Olympics.” Yes.
Subspace Emissary raised kid me and I have such fond memories of that game. To this day I still know what half those characters are thanks to Brawl. Also it’s what got me into Kirby with how much I loved Meta Knight.
Brawl was undoubtedly what made smash what it is today, the art direction, the story mode, music, testing the waters with licensing of non-nintendo characters it really felt like more than a sequel
When you ask people nowadays it's usually "brawl bad it's competitively broken" but in 2007 how many people were trying to win hundreds of thousands at tournaments? Brawl delivered in so many ways it's a shame that we boil our retrospective judgment down to: "can it be competitive or no"
The art direction was a product of Wii hardware limitations, and was immediately reversed, in the next entry.
@@BaconPizzaWaffles Proof that limited hardware makes for better-looking games most of the time.
I see things differently."
Smash for Wii U and 3DS was actually not the first time that two Smash games were being developed simultaneously, as Subspace Emissary was originally meant to be developed with another studio before resources dictated that both would need to be manned by the same team.
Even I can't say it is the "best" one (that's a reductive discussion anyway) but it is (just barely) my personal favorite game in the series based on how inherently linked it is to my upbringing.
tldr It's good
This is how I describe Brawl: This game is the greatest thing I have ever seen, but I also really hate it and it burns my eyes.
This game is the best and worst thing to happen.
I miss the single player and art style.
And the game actually being finished, unlike Smash WII U/3DS/Ultimate with their AIDS updates.
The subspace emissary changes everything
Finished it like seven times with my sister
Yes. Most fun. I feel like since there became more of a competitive focus that's not as many unique innovations like final smashes and assisst trophies.
I'm really glad to see someone else suggest that brawl is the best. It had so many great features and modes that it makes it the best smash for fun rather than competitive play
1. Brawl
2. Melee
3. Ultimate
4.WiiU/3DS
5.N64
6.Crusade
7.Smash Flash 2
No way you ranked Smash Flash 2 below crusade
It's my favorite. If Ultimate is really the last one we ever get, it will always be my favorite, too.
The Subspace Emissary is just so fucking good.
the thing i like about ultimate is how they brought back every character and stage from the previous smash games plus more characters and stages
Well, Super Smash Bros. Brawl did destroy my Wii lens thanks to that dual-layer disc...So yeah, Brawl was a good game.
Did you change it?
Brawl surely stands out from other Smash games with that art style. It has my personal favorite single player experience in all the games and I look back at it pretty fondly.
The 1st trailer where Kirby doesn't change at all is supposed to be a joke. That's why he looks around confused.
Brawl is better than trash 4
@@unknownsoldier6731 Both are good
Hold the phone
I found an incredibly underrated RUclipsr who gives me a good time and has a cool voice.
And gave me nostalgia in the ds video?
U deserve a sub Kermit.
In terms of casual play yes, this fucking game was really fun
6:48 Meta Knight used to be my main back when my brother and I used to play brawl at my friend’s house. Unfortunately I wasn’t that good as him.
If I recall wave dashing was an intentional mechanic in melee
If it was cosmetic that would be sick and I hope they add that to the next game. Also I had no clue little mac did that what??
@@KoKerm get high percentage as little mac in smash 4 or ultimate and zoom in on his face, he'll have bandages or a black eye.
bro reached 1k overnight
cant wait for you to blow up

Brawl is a classic I hope it gets rereleased.
Brawl is my favorite to this day and only because the adventure mode, it is still so incredibly fun
Brawl was my very first intro to the series, and In forever grateful because it was great, even when I played it when I was younger. I wholeheartedly agree that Brawl is better than Melee in some areas, it's just...damn. what a kickass game.
Yes, next question
Fuck what people say, Brawl plays like a 2D DBZ game and I love it
Keep these consistent bangers coming dude. Keep it up!
Awesome vid dude! You are definitely gonna get a shit ton of subs
It's definitely nostalgia.
@@BaconPizzaWaffles see no one likes you dude
Bro, you are super underrated, this video is amazing! How do you only have 2k subs?! Hope to see more from you soon!
Brawl was a masterpiece 👏 ✨️

Excited about where your channel is headed
I was a meta knight main when this game came out, for the exact same reason. I honestly had no idea he was as hated as he was until fairly recently.
Darn shame, Brawl was my first Smash game. Despite it's flaws, I really like it. Although I will say, I played a bit in Melee at a friend's house. :/
At 3:25 that's not Brawl. It's a mod called Project M ( now called P+) which takes it's inspiration from Melee and restores many of the movement options and physics from it's predecessor. That's the reason why In this clip you're seeing a combo string. You can also see a flash of white after an aerial on the wolf with the tag "4Tou~" which indicates a successful L cancel.
this channel is going to blow up if he keeps uploading
I miss Coin Launcher so much
My brothers and I have been diehard SSB fans since the very first game came out. We seem to all agree that Melee is the best. At least when it comes to PvP matches. The maps were legendary. Poké Floats will forever be our favorite.
I LOVE THE KERMIT PFP
