Before Chinese cars came to The Philippines, Korean and Japanese cars could be priced at will, but now, I can't imagine how they would survive in the face of the competition
We are getting this after looking and test driving other popular 7 seater of the same price point atm. Also tested the coolray. Thank you for this review. The CNCAP 5 star safety rating, a Mazda/BMW designer, a land rover interior and tech, and the 10 year and 5 year engine and bumper to bumper warranty respectively are more than enough for us. And for the price, youre getting more than any other "popular" company can offer atm. way way more. Excited to get the unit next week. I'm from DAVAO btw.
Chinese manufacturers are really kicking it up a notch which allow consumers to experience luxury without breaking the bank. Hope to see other manufacturers follow suit. As always, great review, Rey! You never fail to entertain.
This car grows on me honestly. I appreciate it the more I see it online. Especially that light gold color! It is very classy! My Xpander's interior is mostly made out of plastic.
JAC S4, S7, Tiggo 8 Lux Ex, Azkarra, Coolray. Damn! Chinese are being aggressive and the variants they release are fully loaded with techs. Hopefully, you can also try to test the JAC S4 and S7 as they are also competitively.
Brave man. I personally wouldn't gamble with untested platforms, especially from a brand that didn't have the best reputation the last time it was here.

Nice when new. Powered chair adjustments? Another thing that could go wrong in the long run. Ambient lights? Distraction at night. Longevity? Well, we'll find out after 2 to 3 years.

Hi Reygan. That's a nice review. I would like to know how the car performs when climbing an incline? I see your Chery Tiggo 5x review and want impressed when the CVT couldn't handle the parking lot incline.
This performs way better due to its dual clutch transmission and higher power output. I had no issues with the Tiggo8 on the same incline, fully loaded with groceries from S&R. The transmission plays a big role in any car's performance.
I heard that another reason why Chinese cars are priced low is they're given tax perks or reduced tax which is not being enjoyed by Korean, Japanese, and other non-Chinese cars.

NVH is quite good. The cabin is quiet, and no harsh rattles felt. The doors have a heft that tells you the build quality is over engineered. Feels almost like a Euro crossover.

Its comfortable, we didn't even set the AC in full blast, just set in it auto and at 22 degrees. I spent most of my time in front, but my kids were comfy in the back during drives in the village.

Gil Manuel Lontoc That’s a tough one, both are awesome vehicles. The Coolray has better response and drive performance due to its added power. The Tiggo8 is more comfortable and is also bigger. The Tiggo8 would be better compared to the upcoming Geely Azkarra, now that would be a toss up. I prefer the Tiggo8 mainly due to its size and seating capacity, but that’s coz I have small kids.

Hi Joey, haven't had the chance to review the Montero Sport yet, but the Tiggo8 would be more comparable to 7-seater crossover offerings like the Hyundai Sta Fe, Honda CR-V, etc. In this arena the Tiggo8 is ahead in terms of car tech. Build quality is similar, may even be a tad better, to be honest. For the Monty, I'd wager the Tiggo8 has a more comfortable ride than the Montero Sport, mainly due to its crossover nature versus the Monty's ladder frame chassis.
Cheap price but the maintenance cost is high, lack of spare parts in the open market. What happened after 3 years of PMS? This is what I read from my Google search.

My friend you are looking in the wrong category. Putting rwd would increase cost! And more lag or lost of power with that small engine more fuel consumption. But kinda agree with you rwd is fun . China government have agreement to only use small engines to its neighbors. Remember this is a budget car. Not a volvo xc lol. Easier maintenance fwd. Plus nowadays its hightech you wont feel any much difference handling wise

If up to 5seater, best option will be geely coolray

It is positioned in the middle of the market, within the reach of most people, so it has to take into account costs and won't use wet DCT

It is when in Eco mode. In sport mode, it acts like a regular A/T. I put it in sport mode all the time. Feels more natural than eco mode.

Air conditioning is quite good, at par with other crossovers. There are no 3rd row vents though. Only the 2 ac vents found in the 2nd row.

I have to agree on the plastic cladding.
I don't know what Mazda was thinking when they put that big, ugly cladding on the CX-30.
