Just so you know, Dane, I've recently discovered that it DOES matter if you mix up the string locks. Unless they're made of a harder material than the strings, those strings will indent the surfaces of the locks and print their shape. Those indentations won't match if the locks get scrambled, and they won't hold the strings well. This absolutely explains the large number of times I bought a guitar with a Floyd and it was brilliant -- right up until I changed all the strings at once. Then I'd usually pull the string locks out of the nut, thinking that I could put the back just any old way. Now I know that -- and why -- I was wrong. Hope this helps you in some way.
I just loosen up the locks just enough to have the strings clear it moving freely through. Never take them all the way out, it's unnecessary. Slide em out, then slide the new ones right through there. Boom done. Lol
@@cycomiko73 There is one situation that that approach won't help. I've had Floyd nuts wear out to the point where they slip, no matter how you tighten the locks. Removing the locks entirely (1 at a time) reveals the state of the nut -- at least you can move the strings so you can see what's up. I imagine this problem attenuates as the acquisition price of the guitar goes up!
You just can't beat the Flying V design, they just look so badass. The guitarist Dan Spitz from Anthrax has a Flying V like this but his one had the green binding around it, that he played on the Among The Living tour.

I thought you should do the intonation when changing the gage of the strings, especially that big of a difference from 9's to 11's, a 42 to a 54 would also need the action a bit higher or it'll be buzz central on that dropped B string.The tuning will be slightly out somewhere further up the neck without the intonation adjusted accordingly for those different gage strings. I use 11 to 56 NYXL's in dropped B, going from 9 to 42 in standard, and had to do all that I said.
I stole a trick from DylanTalksTone for restringing Floyds. Get a wooden block or eraser that seats the trem dead flat and loosen off the springs so that the block/ strings are the thing keeping the block level. Do your string change, intonation heights etc and set your tune. Do up the locking nut and check tune. Then tighten up the springs until the block can just slide out - the block should remain level and there should only be a tiny amount of retuning needed, but no need to keep doing both strings and springs.
Uff 11-54!???I use that for E standard as the highest gauge for that tuning...for drop B on a FR...at least 13-62 so the tension isn't sloppy...I can't imagine how spaghetti like tension it has to have with 11-54...just an opinion btw...but hey if it works then it works for him🤷♂️.....just my suggestion.

I saw those guys (get the led out) they were pretty good band. I was to young to see zeppelin. To bad it's when they were off and on at that time.
I have a jackson RR too and i tried going from 9-42 to 10-46 and did not like it at all. He might be back for a re-string again soon???
