I seriously would also recommend using an elevated feeder it takes a lot of strain off of their neck and back and forelegs and helps them to not have excess pain as they age. also helps them not ingest so much air to reduce the chances of bloat. even if the Danes are gastropexied. It still helps to reduce chances of bloat❤
I’m not sure if this applies to Great Danes , but I have a standard poodle and it is recommended that you keep their bowls flat on the ground to prevent bloating . Broad chested dogs without gastropexys can bloat which is serious and can cause death .
My friend used to have a Great Dane when we was younger (around 2 or 3 yrs old) and she would always ride on his back whenever he would sit or lay down😂🥺

They are originally proper to have them cropped because a long time ago they cropped their ears so they could fight boars... I think it has become a more preferred look to the Dane and it is completely pain free since they are under anesthesia and on medication for a week. Lots of people disagree but if it's that painful it would be considered abuse and be banned in all states and countries...I suggest that you take a look at the pros of ear cropping.
@@twxstedarii450 there are no “pros” to cropping it’s purely aesthetic look there is just absolutely no need even dogs that are prone to ear infections shouldn’t get their ears cropped

Fun fact, most great dane owners don't crop the ears themselves, they get them like that as puppies from other breeders. Unless your breed the dogs yourself.

@dab 8430 how do you know what is more comfortable for his pups. They seem completely fine with eating from a feeder on the floor. I had a great dane named Finn. We got him at 5 weeks and unfortunately, at almost 7 years, we had to put him down a month ago. I miss him everyday. Once you own a great dane, it's hard to own any other dog.
I always raised my Dane's food dish. I had learned that it helped develop proper digestion. Prevent bloat. Not drinking too much at a time, particularly with food. I never managed to get the water dish raised without it getting knocked over so.... Anyway, something to think about.
I love these gentle giants, as they’re called! May I suggest getting little stools on which to put their food and water dishes? Please don’t clip the fawn’s ears.
Raised feeders are not necessary. You clearly don't have great dane knowledge or you would know that the other dog won't be getting it's ears cropped because that's only done as a puppy! And Magic? Maybe they didn't get him as a puppy and his ears were already cropped.

You are so right
As soon as Magic stated barking, my pug barked in response. You boys are so beautiful, but ill stick with my pug
You should definitely put their feeding bowls and their water bowls higher to prevent them from straining their necks.
I disagree
How so?
Queen Chrelle Lmao stfu.
You're spot on. We had higher feeding/water bowls for out Dane.
I’m not sure if this applies to Great Danes , but I have a standard poodle and it is recommended that you keep their bowls flat on the ground to prevent bloating . Broad chested dogs without gastropexys can bloat which is serious and can cause death .
My friend used to have a Great Dane when we was younger (around 2 or 3 yrs old) and she would always ride on his back whenever he would sit or lay down😂🥺
Standing at empty bowl: "Is that IT?????"
Danes are unique in their own weird ways.. My boy "Shadow" kicks my ass everyday, nonstop, but I will always love him to the moon and back!! ❤️
You here those nails on the floor ? I heard that occasionally weeks from different parts of the house , after he died . I ain’t crazy and I wasn’t asleep , I was watching TV by myself . Freaked me out !
DON'T BE FREAKED OUT. YOUR DOG'S SPIRIT IS WITH YOU....BE HAPPY FOR THIS!!!!!
Same thing happened to me after I lost my girl to cancer ❤️❤️
Nothing sounds more empty than a house after losing a dog 💔
Sorry for your loss
The dog lapping in the background for 5 mins straight lol
I had two harlequins, they are so affectionate I miss them even today !!
Your dogs are beautiful!!! I had 2 black Great Danes at once. Twins & Both males. Thunder & lightning. I miss them everyday. Please cherish those sweet babies.💕💕
Good luck robbing the house with those guys around
I love their little indoor bed/house setting. We have Dobermans we need something like that 🙂
Lovely dogs, I like the droopy ears better than the cropped, for obvious reasons.
What reasons?
Dakota&Blessing ServiceTeam cosmetic only, serves no purpose, other than pain, discomfort, risk of infection when done......etc. etc.
@@woohunter1 aren't they on pain meds? What if a cropped dog is fine? No pain, no infection,... just wondering. A lot of things humans di to/with there dogs is cosmetic so I don't think just because something is purley cosmetic it should be wrong. Don't they crop working dogs as well or something like that?
Dakota&Blessing ServiceTeam it’s controversial, some like it, some don’t. I don’t.
@@woohunter1 ah ok. I get it.
Finn, a dog that won’t ravage a food bowl!? Amazing!! Magnificent 4-legged children!!
On a side note: I love your floors! What wood is it?
Needing Less 5” wide hickory by Mohawk
@@MichaelCoburn - Beautiful! Thank you for responding.
u should raise there bowls bc it can cause there stomach to turn unless u got it tied
They have been tacked (prophylactic gastropexy performed when they were neutered)
So is there a breed called an Average Dane that is the same only smaller? I don't have room for a pony.
Morning routine is about the same with our dogs & none of them are Danes.LOL And my Boston Terrier does the same thing to her food when she doesn’t want it!! Dogs are so funny no matter what the Breed; gotta love ‘em!!!!! 😂♥️😘💕🥰
Thank you for not cropping the other dogs ears 😭
They are originally proper to have them cropped because a long time ago they cropped their ears so they could fight boars... I think it has become a more preferred look to the Dane and it is completely pain free since they are under anesthesia and on medication for a week. Lots of people disagree but if it's that painful it would be considered abuse and be banned in all states and countries...I suggest that you take a look at the pros of ear cropping.
What I'm trying to say is no need to feel sorry for the dog
@@twxstedarii450 there are no “pros” to cropping it’s purely aesthetic look there is just absolutely no need even dogs that are prone to ear infections shouldn’t get their ears cropped
@@breekennedy3945 I disagree I have some danes and some that have cropped ears and the ones with natural ears are more prone to hematomas. If you look at more than half of the akc registered danes out there most have cropped ears and yes there are pros look it up there are many helpful videos and websites your welcome
Fun fact, most great dane owners don't crop the ears themselves, they get them like that as puppies from other breeders. Unless your breed the dogs yourself.
Omg, your dogs have stables! That's awsome
He’s got a swiss “Appenzeller” collar.
Have you been there?
Greetings from Stuttgart, Germany 👋🏻
Yes, I have been to Switzerland 7+ times. Bought this in Gruyere. Thanks for noticing.
My vet advised putting food & water bowls on a raised platform. Any other Dane owners do this?
I should do a whole episode on this. Think I will.
Thanks for watching. It is a conscious decision based on experience, evidence and breeder/vet feedback. No evidence to indicate that raised feeders reduce the incidence of bloat or GDV. Stomach tacking, which I have done on each of my 3 Great Danes since my first two bloated with raised feeders is a much more effective tactic to reduce the impact of GDV. Here is a link to a peer reviewed article on the topic. Please let me know what evidence you are basing your comments on for your suggestion.
Abstract
There are only two studies that study the effect of raised feeders on the risk of Gastric Dilatation Volvulus (GDV) and their findings conflict. Only one study found a significant effect of feeder height, with large and giant breeds fed from a raised feeder being at an increased risk of GDV floor fed dogs. However, these authors found that, where the feeder was raised, the height of the feeder that increased the GDV risk was affected by the size of the dog. Large breed dogs were more likely to develop a GDV if fed from a bowl ≤ 1 foot tall, whereas giant breed dogs were more likely to develop a GDV if fed from a bowl > 1 foot tall. No studies found that feeding from a raised feeder reduced the risk of GDV relative to feeding from the floor. Therefore, the safest option in the absence of further evidence is to advise that owners of ‘at risk’ dogs feed from a feeder on the floor. This may not reduce the risk of GDV, but there is no evidence to suggest that it will increase the risk.

@dab 8430 how do you know what is more comfortable for his pups. They seem completely fine with eating from a feeder on the floor. And he has done his research and seen what is best for HIS DOG and gave a reasonable answer. More than reasonable. If you are unsatisfied I suggest you take it somewhere else instead criticising how someone feeds their dog 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
@dab 8430 common sense tells me that dogs naturally dogs would eat of the groung not of a raised surface

My big sister wants 5 big dogs like Great Danes and I was like ok.... a lot of work
HALLO MICHAEL!
YOUR MORNING ROUTINE IS VERY NICE

Yep, looks like my morning, right down to trying to drink my coffee..lol thank you
Who was crying in the beginning? Pretty much the same here but at 6:00. So cute
Magic starts and Finn sometimes joins in
CUTE!!
Their dog bowls are the size of oil pans. It fits them perfectly.
Wouldn't horses be easier? Or llamas? Camels?
My senior Westie when I adopted him used to flip the bowl so I have to put something so he will eat and he did.
I have a great danes ... her name is a Sindel she have three years old
Awwwwwwww
I had a great dane named Finn. We got him at 5 weeks and unfortunately, at almost 7 years, we had to put him down a month ago. I miss him everyday. Once you own a great dane, it's hard to own any other dog.
100% agree. Sorry for your loss.
I always raised my Dane's food dish. I had learned that it helped develop proper digestion. Prevent bloat. Not drinking too much at a time, particularly with food. I never managed to get the water dish raised without it getting knocked over so.... Anyway, something to think about.
Angie McIntyre no check your facts it is proven to increase chances of bloat
LOL had a Dane that would try to cover up any food he didn't eat (which was interesting given he was free fed...). Love those boys! Gemini says hiya!
You need a big house
Lesson learned
Those 2 I can tell not easy to take care of. I thank you
Aw the great Danes are so sweet
I hear howling That means Great Dane is hungry
am i watching this?, yes. do i have a great dane?, nope.😂
Many who can’t get a Great Dane watch vicariously
I love these gentle giants, as they’re called! May I suggest getting little stools on which to put their food and water dishes? Please don’t clip the fawn’s ears.
Cato9 or you could just not tell them what to do :) you dont know if they clipped them or not & you really dont know anything about them :)
@@entertainmyfa1th please shut the fuck up :)

I agree getting stools
Raised feeders are not necessary. You clearly don't have great dane knowledge or you would know that the other dog won't be getting it's ears cropped because that's only done as a puppy! And Magic? Maybe they didn't get him as a puppy and his ears were already cropped.
Oh my gosh! Those bowls are huge! I need one for my golden retriever, she drinks sooo much water. I have to refill her current one 3 or 4 times a day.
We put our danes food and water on a bench im cringing as they eat and drink water their food needs to be raised up

My dog gets fridge water and sleeps upstairs next to my parents’ bed. Sometimes in my bed.
All of that wasted water hurt my feelings.
Wrong way to give a food to your pet food should always given at height distance for gaint breed. Like you have.
Tarsam Singh wrong increases bloat chance
I put my Dane's food bowl on the sofa, and she grabs it by her teeth, and puts it on the floor.
I know next to nothing aboutx Great Danes, but the one with 'Spotted Hyena' type coat is particularly stunning.
It really is! Harlequin is that color
Mine are Brindle and Fawn
Why not feed from raised platform?
I don’t feed on a raised platform because the evidence and science would say it doesn’t help in some cases could actually hurt.

I put you videos on for my lurcher when I’m out they love it xx
Some things for you:
Okay, you should raise your great danes food and water dishes. I have three great danes, and I'm just saying, you should really do that. Also, why do you keep them locked up in such tiny spaces? They should be able to roam your house, and you should make sure they always have food and fresh water EVEN in the night, or that could cause hunger and thirst issues. Quick question, why is his name Magic if he's not even a girl? You should also let both of them outside at the same time, and they should be able to go outside anytime they want. And if they don't want to eat, don't make them. Not tryin to hate on you, but like, I think you are a VERY irresponsible grey dane owner (coming from a nine year old girl who owns three great danes).
Like the 9 year old girl part at the end had me ROTF
