This is the review I've been needing! Been in the market for this whenever I go on tour, and don't feel like lugging a hardcase, but would feel comfortable throwing an odd shaped guitar similar to the jazzmaster in the back of the van, or onto a flight!

Searching for something for a 335... I'd assume a semi-hollow gibson would NOT survive that torture test. Guess I'll stick to my hard cases for flying.. I know baggage handlers would treat it pretty much exactly as this video does :)

I'd like to see a couple of flight situations. One as an attempted carry on, only to have to Gate check it. Another one where you actually check the gig bag. Like to see this done several times on different flights!

@JayLeonardJ do you think they're safe to fly as checked in luggage? Having the empty spaces filled with cloth/airbubble wrap and with additional wrap outside?
I bought one of these for my rg550 when I bought it. I tried a few different cases in the shop, gigbags and hard cases. The Icon felt the most solid and the most like it offered the best protection. It would be cool if gator offered it for extreme shapes like stars, explorers, and flying V's.

@@JayLeonardJ thanks for the reply! I already got the bag for more than a week. for others who are curious, the lower bout is a perfect snug fit for the Revstar 2.
this bag is quite heavy but I honestly feel that it offers unrivalled level of protection for a gig bag, at least amongst those I tried, including those from mono.
also because this bag is so rigid and it's "hinge" is straight rather than guitar shaped, you can easily lean it against the wall to remove your guitar from the upright position in case you don't want to have the strap down on the floor.
overall, I can't fault it other than the weight... but thats the trade off for protection I guess.

It's better, I'm an former Vertigo massive fan. Icon has better and solid frame.
