Ryan "Fluff" Bruce just did a video where he explained how while on tour in Europe with his band Dragged Under they realized their equipment did not arrive from Seattle to the UK and he was able to prove it to the airline because he had AirTags in every case.
Prove what? That his bags didn't arrive. Don't they believe you about stuff like that? I mean if you haven't actually got your bags, isn't that proof enough?
@@castleanthrax1833 it proves that they’re in Seattle, rather than where they were supposed to be. The AirTag makes it so the airline doesn’t have to locate, just return.
I’ve tried all kinds of “old man” straps since I injured both shoulders years ago. Walter Trout (also bad shoulders) his strap, and they don’t work for me. I use the Robben Ford (also old guy) style of strap. Pelican are excellent. I have a Mono bag for my pedalboard, and it’s held up exceptionally well. I always carry an overdrive and reverb pedal in my carry-on. In the same pouch as my prescription meds.
The problem with AirTags is if someone takes your bag, and they have an iPhone on their person, the phone will alert them that they are being tracked by an AirTag. So they will know it’s there. This is because people were unscrupulously hiding AirTags on people and following them.
My buddy tried to give me flack about my purple coily once. At then end of the gig I just tossed it in my helix bag and went to help him properly wind up all the straight cables and I haven't heard a word sense.
Hey Rhett! as much as I love Noah Guthrie & big trouble- I mean great band, he’s an amazing singer songwriter-but he’s definitely lucky to have you not just for your talent but as a control freak OCD type of guy myself-the fact that you’re so organized and ready for everything is just super professional and I really respect that man! have a great gig👊
Really? I watched his recent video when he put together his fly rig, and all I could think of was "don't you do any prep work before you start filming"? I'm not trying to bag Rhett, but he was kinda disorganized.
@@jeremyversusjazz I think he did a "spur of the moment" kind of thing. I agree with you, he's usually very well organized. I like those r.f.i.d tags he's got in this vid too. I don't do much traveling, but if I do I'll be putting one in the electronics cavity of my guitar just in case. ✌️🇦🇺
It was interesting seeing all your stuff for your tour dates. These days I just play local gigs every weekend. I didn't see any pick supply in your gear. I always carry a couple of small personal flashlights. Other things I always bring for a gig is a cloth or two for the stage to wipe the guitar if necessary or to quickly wipe up a spill plus I bring manicure equipment with me to a gig. It can drive me crazy at a gig to try and play if one nail happens to be a little too long or cracked or a ragged edge. Also sealed moistened towelletes are handy if you quickly need to clean off your hands and can't get to a nearby sink.
I watched a recorded concert of Dire Straits, and Mark Knopfler had to stop the concert in between songs and request a nailfile/clippers from the audience. Quite funny for everyone except him. ✌️🇦🇺
Deoxit also comes in a small squeeze tube, so you can keep it in your fly rig. Agree it's essential. Other thing that's great to bring is a 3 prong to IEC adapter - turns any extension cord into an IEC.
You're a straight up pro my man. Your rig is meticulously well thought out. Wish I lived nearby because I Definitely wanna see you rip it up on stage. Really excited for you being able to get back out there and do what you love brother. Cheers 🍻
Really useful getting the inside perspectives from a bona-fide “RoadWarrior” of today. While my touring days are mostly over, I do get the occasional fly date studio call. Nicely done sir.
I literally just watching the video where jack white shows his low rider Tele with all the benders attached a minute ago and all of a sudden this pops up
The great algorithm has you figured out now. I’m sorry. The great algorithm’s goal is ultimate control. It’s turmoil and tinfoil hats for the rest of your days. It figured me out a year ago. Now I can’t even think of my butt without getting bombarded with itch cream advertisements.
Awesome video. Good clean cuts. Nice lighting. Nice b roll. Call backs to previous videos. Very good! Looking forward to the backstage journals. Maybe they should have their own channel for long form backstage journal?
I agree that guitar straps are more important than most players realize. Check out Moody straps. Pricy, but worth it. I think you'd like Moody even more than what you're using. I also agree about Transformers. Optimus Prime is best.
Thanks heaps for this! So good. I picked up the mono case on your recommendation and recently the tick and it is honestly a game changer. Such a well designed piece of kit
RE: The neoprene pad. I've done some leather work in my time, so I have no shortage of suitable leather scraps around. I keep one with my restringing kit, and use that to cushion the guitar. Protective, and non slip, and I already had it, so no extra cost. Win.
I've been following for years now, and have to admit I mirror your gear, to the point of two Novos, a serus j an Solus h2. I do like the tik bag and will look into that as I find myself having a bag for every scenario. We gig every weekend but recently we played 7 night in a row in Key West Florida, Sloppy Joe's, our first out of town shows. I resorted back to your ol videos, thank u for that. The pelican case is a must an wish I had that with me. Once again, another Schull purchase.. now, how to ask wife...
You might want to check, but I believe the livewire cables from guitar center are lifetime warranty. Might be able to take those back and get them swapped out.
The most excellent info. Total gear covetness! On another note, Have you ever noticed that you never really have command or know a song until you played it so many times are absolutely sick to death of it? Maybe it’s just me lol
Solid setup. I would add a few choice items. A tube of Big Benz Nut Sauce. A little in each nut slot and the saddle V's and you will improve tuning stability and reduce string breakage. A String Stretcha. It's a plastic stick with a hook and heel on one end. Tune a new string up to pitch, run the Stretcha up and down a few times, check your tune and it will be a whole step lower. It stretches a new string in 30 seconds so you go on stage with stable strings. I know it sounds corny and gimicky, but once you use it, you will come to depend on it. And last but certainly not least is a Snark clip on tuner. I know there's a ton of tuning apps, pedals and other clip ons. But the Snark is super accurate, very high visibility and inconspicuous. You can tune silently, in a noisy room where your phone app will pick up transients, and in the dark. For $20, that's cheap
I always played with coiled cords in the 60’s until they went out of fashion and my plug ends wore out. One of mine was light gray and got filthy from dragging on stage. When I bought a new Fender coiled cord a few years ago it was nothing like the 60’s originals. The 60’s style had the same weight and flexibility of the land line phone cords (remember those?). The new ones are constructed of thick, stiff, heavy cable that doesn’t stretch and return unlike the old ones. I realize that the new ones provide a cleaner signal, but the reason that they were popular in the 60’s is gone. I use mine from my pedal board to my amp so that it’s not a total waste. It’s too damn heavy and stiff to use directly from my guitar. That’s why they’re not flying off the shelves this time around.
Funny you bring up the Air Tags. This just saved Ryan Fluff Bruce from Riffs Beards and Gear on their European tour a few weeks back. Got to London and saw their gear was still in the states!
Always wanted a Mulecaster until I did some research on them. I was shocked about the horror stories and decided to not get one... cool guitars though.
Agree Deoxit is essential. Saves plenty to trips to repair shop for one thing. (Strangely many musicians seem not to realize dirt, dust & oxidation accruing over time are things.)
I’m so bummed that your actually heading within 30min of me when you play @SPI and I’ll be missing it due to prior commitments. Been following you for years and never thought I would have that chance. I’ll try and catch you next time you roll through the state again. Enjoy the gigs, prepare for horrible heat and humidity and most of all have a great time. Should be a great time 🤘
I really liked this video, specifically the AirTag recommendation, I think it´s brilliant for this application. On the other hand, I find all this gear to be very overwhelming. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like it, but wow it's really hard to keep up with everything! As always, much love from Barcelona!
My straps are the exact opposite. I like the black woven nylon straps with leather ends. They slide on my shirt instead of grabbing it and making me have to adjust my shirt all the time.
Another item: travel baby powder for hand(left). Helps to eliminate sticky neck slickens your hand removing moisture from humidity/sweat. Just a pinch in palm and then rub. Don’t inhale!😉
Great video, and great setup man! If you’re at all interested in selling the benders from the mulecaster I’d buy them from you. I love mine on my mulecaster, but matt doesn’t sell them separately anymore and I’d love to have a set for another guitar.
Pelicans, man. They are absolutely bombproof. My brother has done a ton of travelling around lighting work, shooting this that and the other in various locations. He highly recommends Pelicans. Lighting, electrical, computer techs. They all recommend Pelicans.

Yeah, having two of everything (at least) is important.
It's nice to hear someone sing praises about the features that actually matter in a cable :D
