I just saw him perform this last night, and I think people don't appreciate here the amount of things Cory Henry is doing at once. Especially the footwork where he is managing the legato pedal for the release of different chords and notes on top of controlling the kick drum, while also playing either a bass line or chord (or both) on the left hand, while soloing on the right hand, while also singing. So he's actively controlling six different separate rhythms at once (kick drum, legato pedal, bass line, chords, soloing, singing). The amount of skill, control, and dedication to be able to play at this level with such control and feel is insane.
This is so satisfying to read! I was wondering if that was him playing the kick drum :D Haha! He's extremely talented, and I bet he works hard as all damn hell.

I hate the fact that the word "genius" has been devaluated so much recently, by using it to describe mediocre producers. Now I lack words to describe this phenomenon. Absolutely stunning.
I wonder if the "mm, mm" at 5:13 is right when he is just double checking his left hand is still grooving when he was just barely hesitant on the F octave for a second. It's like he''s reaffirming himself lol
Now I'm into the high double digits rewatching this performance. Currently I can't think of another musical performance that I enjoyed more - and I've seen Herbie Hancock live. Man, I really need to make it to one of Cory's shows! Edit: Now triple digits...
Actually yep the best all around keyboardist! When you add in his ability on organ, synths, Synth programming, non traditional keyboards like the rolli keyboards(seaboards) and others. It becomes apparent that he can do just about anything on keys! So I think that qualifies for best all around keyboard player. Now of course there are other piano virtuosos who may display a little more virtuosity like Oscar Peterson(but he’s dead), Hiromi and people like that who could probably churn out jazz standards as well or better than Corey because they mainly just play piano, just like he mainly plays organ and I doubt if they could churn out an organ the way he does either so.. man shrug 🤷 Again pound for pound he’s the BEST! His ability to do this so flawlessly most definitely comes from his Organ 'programming' (as I would say) from a young age... the doc knows best...
