Hi Paul from the UK. You'll find it'll help if you have the air intake for the burner (obviously the one with the air filter) outside. If you run it as it is, it's constantly having to draw cold air in from the outside, which is in effect producing a cold air draft. Also I guess, as it's using up air, the oxygen content of your workspace might be reduced slightly - that's if you have your space sealed.
FYI I have an identical 5Kw heater in my workshop, and I've found that by running at approx 3Hz, it can fairly easily maintain 16 degrees C (about 60 F), when the outside is minus 4 C (25 F) My workshop is a similar size to yours, but has an insulated ceiling - the height is about 8 feet. So it's well worth getting insulation in the roof if you can. The other advantage of doing this is that it keeps way much cooler during the summer months. Dunno if that's an issue where you live? Regards Jono

Also I put a longer exhaust pipe on mine with the muffler on the outside with the small pipe on the other end. I love it. Mine is just going though an aluminum pipe out a window. Just bought one of these after watching hours of videos about them. You may want to change the green fuel line for the harder white fuel line that doesn't compress and therefore won't cause fuel flow problems.
You may also want an inline fuel filter, but of course you can filter the fuel when you top up.
With the fuel tank, the last litre of fuel is inaccessible due to the high point of the intake, so many people just tip the unit forward by having one leg taller than the other.
    Cheers Paul :)

As mentioned in other comments hertz is pulses per minute for the fuel pump. In general, allow 40 btu/sqft for nominal insulated areas.
13×21x40 gives around 11,000btu or about 3.2 KW required input. Your unit is well within what will be required.
Diesel will generate about 40KW (137,000btu) per gallon. By knowing fuel pump flow (pulses) on can generally determine the hertz setting for fuel.
I have 2 of these units for several years. One is 8KW and a smaller 2-4KW.

It is desirable to run any of the 12v diesel heaters via a battery with a charger rather than a power supply. The heaters need to run a shut down cycle to cool the unit before they finaly shut down. If the 12 vollts is supplied via a mains unit and there is a mains power failure the cooling and shutting down procedure will not be initiated which could cause an undesirable overheating of the case and unit.

Wanna double the efficiency or have 10KW of heat on the same amount of fuel?
Put the unit inside and pipe the exhaust throuh a radiator with a 12V radiator fan end THEN out of the building.
These are basically just pistonless engines where they are barely 35% efficient unless you use the exhaust heat as well.

I am in Ukraine and considering providing these to a few families but I have a few questions. Maybe you can answer for me.
Do you need to provide electricity the whole time you operate it or just to start it up? When the electrical grid goes down we won't have any electricity maybe for weeks in the dead of Winter (-15C approx.). Would a car battery do? How long might that last before it needs recharging? These are critical questions to know which direction to go for those in an apartment. They have enclosed balconies, so an exhaust hole can be made.

    • @paulethier3416
      @paulethier3416  Год назад +1

Yes 12 volts. It draws a little over 10amps on start up then 3-5 amps consistent.

You can run it off of a car battery, you could just run the power wires out to the car. Just be careful of how far down you run the car's battery. If you idle the car every few hours you could run it constantly. These will run on diesel or kerosene or even a 50/50+ mix of used oil and kerosene. That's what I'm running in mine. They'd probably run on cooking oil too but I haven't tried that yet

They burn a lot cleaner on kerosene and I can jet fuel at airport and they never get dirty if you run jet A fuel and kerosene works just as good jet a is just cleaner and mix it 50/50 with diesel to or pure diesel but once a month run kerosene to clean it up good and the last time you run it burn kerosene to clean it up.

Great vid. Quick question. How is the boat vent exhaust fitting working out? Does it insulate the exhaust good enough from the hole in the wall. I am thinking of getting a heater but want to vent it through the wall and would like to know of the marine vent remains cool enough where it contacts the wall.
    Cheers from Canada

Every one of these youtube videos always puts the air intake inside where it is not supposed to be. IT SHOULD PICK UP OUTSIDE AIR for combustion, or it will pull a vacuum in your heated space and cause cold air leaks everywhere. Another hole in the wall for the combustion hose would make a world of difference.

Noticed you filled your diesel heater fuel tank from a red fuel can. Why wasn’t it a yellow one that’s designated for diesel? Red is for gasoline. And blue is for kerosene (or water for some reason).

  • @Carrion00

The way the fuel prices are going I was really interested in this, maybe heat my house. I mean, 8KW is enough right ? Anyway the price of diesel in UK is around £1.80 per liter. So that means around 10 litres a day (12 hours) at a cost of £22.44p. Wow, if my gas bill cost that much I would be bankrupt. Is my maths wrong...no idea, I pulled it from a test on another video.

    • @Westexec

You can buy 500ltr of heating oil in (Home fuels) UK at 88p per ltr approx £448 and store in a 600ltr IBC at a burn rate of 1ltr every 4hrs that should run 12hrs per day from OCT to MARCH. if you run the exhaust gas out but through a standard radiator first you can reclaim a lot of the exhaust heat. Make sure you drain condensation from radiator regularly.
