PRETTY GOOD COMMENT MAN
Your avi gave me a good chuckle lol
Hey Josh - thanks for the shout-out and for answering my question! Keep up all the great music and hopefully I'll catch you live next time you're in the UK!
David Bruce Composer subbed! Very interesting
What great music are you talking about??
Need a reply from David Bruce.
Josh, thanks so much. So enjoy everything I've seen you do and glad to hear that the living room is not your only venue. Spread the joy.
Yes, enjoyed learning a bit more about you; I enjoy your music and the various friends you play with.
Holy cow, you got every question right! Seriously, you gave some great answers. Thanks so much for all of your content. You've provided me with a ton of highly entertained moments. Cheers.
Josh, I'm surprised that having been influenced by Paul Simon, that you and Carson haven't recorded a cover of "The Boxer" yet. You guys would knock it out of the park!

YES PLEASE
Oh yes
I definitely agree
Thanks for enriching my life immeasurably, Josh . Such a pleasure watching you all these years.
Please explain how on earth you life has been enriched 'immeasurably'?
Thank you, Josh! This gives me a broader view of where the music's been coming from. You inspire me to practice and gain more skill on guitar, and in my vocals.
Thanks for sharing Josh! Was truly a pleasure meeting you in Indy! That Avett setlist from 2009! Whoah!
JOSH, YOU ARE JUST AWESOME YOUNG MAN. I'M A 69 YEAR OLD VIETNAM VET. AND I ENJOY WATCHING YOU PLAY SONGS FROM MY YOUNGER YEARS. GOD BLESS YOU WITH A WONDERFUL LIFE, AND A GREAT WIFE. LOVE YOU AND YOUR MUSIC.
@Conrad Maybe Bruce is exclaiming his praise and respect of Josh. Thank you for your service Bruce!
Thank you so much for making this video! I've only been uploading music regularly to my channel for about a month, but I feel like I just gained so much insight from you. I love your approach to creativity and musicianship. So wonderful!
So do I, but a pity he hasn't learned anything!
Fantastic! Enjoy watching you, Carson and the band so much! Our guys are so talented and make it look so easy. You definitely take so much pride in what you do, thanks for sharing so much with all of us
Best Wihes for a brilliant and long career,

Intelligent, personable, and talented -- the man hits the trifecta.
But doesn't hit the right notes.

Glad that you did the Q&A, it helps us to get to know you better. There's 4 or 5 people that I think are wonderful now a days on You tube and you are one of them also Carson too. Good luck!
Josh, love everything you do, just wanted to THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for NOT getting into any political or social issues, and just letting us learn about music and other related personal parts of your fascinating career. Your legion of fans from all over the world cover all spectrums, and you avoided alienating ANYONE. Great video and insight. Thank you!
Such a fun Q & A ! : ) That's really awesome that you mentioned being into Khruangbin ! They've been becoming one of my faves too over this past year or so. I just happened to stumble upon your channel a little earlier today, so I haven't had much time yet to really dig into all your work (but I definitely plan to) but I'm really glad that I found your music and channel just based on what little bit that I've gotten to see thus far. I've really been digging your playing & singing, and you've done some seriously excellent covers.. just your choice of covers in itself is pretty stellar. I think my favorite of the cover vids thus far is the cover of Crazy that you made with Allison Young (goodness gracious, that guitar arrangement really shines & your voices are so lovely together in the harmony sections). I also really loved your vid about exploring and trying to nail down Nick Drake's tone. That was a really special one to me, as I'm also a huge fan of his work and his style myself, and I don't see many people exploring his set-up and playing techniques too often. That pretty much made my day today
Brussels was truly AMAZING, thank you so much for this wonderful moment !!
I appreciate that you reveal that you work really really hard and have prepared for YEARS to make your music performances sound effortless and natural. Wannabees take note!!!!!!! Oh, plus you seem to choose your friends and collaborators wisely. The "fast lane" is often the shortest and contains the most regrets. Blessings!
Thanks for another enjoyable video Josh. I really enjoyed watching your process for multi-tracking all the parts of your videos as I am just starting to do the same thing - I started this process back in the early 1970's (lol) with a Sony TC-252D 4 track sound on sound reel to reel tape recorder with which I was able to tape record each part and instrument by layering the tracks on top of each other - it cost me about 3 weeks pay back then to buy it, but it was pure magic.
I am now beginning to record music again using today's equipment (much much easier), and I'm having the time of my life doing it!
I'll be 70 at the end of July. Enjoy your life - it never gets old, even if you do.
Love your work! Hopefully the move to NY will open some doors for you. You seem genuine and deserve recognition!
I’ve been around pickers and have been playing for close to 40 years....you have a gift young man....👍👍👏👏🙏
Gift of what? Being able to play wrong notes and chords?
Every second of this video is worth viewing. Thank you!
Smart, quirky and soooooooo talented! A bright future in perspective. How will I ever thank you enough for one of the best versions of "Je me suis fait tout petit"???
26 looking 15. That's a good thing! You will appreciate it more as you grow older and still look way younger than your real age! I love your work and your lifestyle! Thanks for sharing your marvelous talents with us.
Yeah he looks young but carries himself more maturely than his age which is even better
Marvelous (sic) talents????? You're tone deaf as well.
@@brimkathstampex2306 Marvelous: causing great wonder; extraordinary.
He didn’t shave for 3 weeks to look a little older.
@@brimkathstampex2306. You mean his guitar playing or his singing? In either case there’s something wrong with your ears.
happy early birthday josh!!!! your music helps me when times are rough.
Great stuff Josh. Amazing the way you study music. Thanks also for the guitar and music advice. You're one of the best musicians I've seen and it's all on your terms. Too much Josh.
"Sincerity does not take the place of technique"
The sounds of 10,000 dirty hippies crying. (myself included)
You are one of the main reasons I move on from just strumming chords and trying to learn to play more seriously. thank you.
I didn't understand the question :| . Can you explain it, please?
@@amaro3005 I think a lot of us like to tell ourselves we're sincere, that we really care about what we're doing. But we don't find time for disciplined practice. Instead we play when we feel like, don't challenge ourselves, don't use metronomes, don't build technique.
If we are truly sincere, it will be reflected in our practice, and our practice will be reflected in our technical proficiency when playing.
James, thank you so much for your answer. So, do you and him mean that some guitar players in USA culture say that they are sincere or play music sincerely and use it as an excuse to not playing complex things? If I'm right, your explanation helped me a lot to understand his point. Thanks.
@@amaro3005 That's close, but I do want to nitpick one little thing.
I don't think it needs to be complex, and I don't think he'd make that argument either. Complex music is fun, but technique exists in the simplest music. Things like working with a metronome to have good rhythm or ensuring you're not buzzing because of bad left hand work, or knowing where you can solo over a piece so you have real freedom when you're playing.
These apply to everything. You feel them in all music. So I think this is less a call to sophistry, and more an argument that if you really love the music, then you should consider enduring more challenging practice which helps you to better express yourself on the instrument, be it in complex music or simple music.
@@jamesbarros950 Oh, I got it. It makes a lot of sense to me and I think that I should follow this advice if wanna share my music on the internet someday. Thank you so much for your attention. I hope you keep improving and become an even greater musician.
Just started playing the guitar at 53. Love this channel. Keep up the good work. Hope you tour Iowa City some time.
Love it. Definitely wanted to know more about you after spending my ENTIRE day watching every video you have made. Very impressive talent young man and I especially appreciate your eclectic taste.
Thanks for taking the time to do this. It was nice to see a bit of the person behind the music.
You make me smile. I think it might have something to do with how creatively you cover all the songs I grew up with. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you're being you. It really shows.
Hello, Josh. Thanks for posting. We are huge fans and we feel like you are quite a genius. Thank you for posting all that you do.
YOU ARE DEAD RIGHT ABOUT PRACTICING SINGING AND PLAYING AT THE SAME TIME. I've been telling that to people forever, not necessarily about singing and playing, but about learning songs on the guitar, and it makes a huge difference. Slowing something down completely and practicing individual measures until you're able to play them all at a tempo that's musical in nature is fundamental in not only playing, but also learning.
Im so glad that there's still people like this in the world. Thought they were a dying breed.
Thank you for this video, Josh! You're such a funny and brilliant guy. I look forward to the possibility of more personality-gleaning videos in the future.
Loved the video Josh, thanks for letting us get to know you a bit better :)
I came upon your channel when i first started playing guitar and have learned so much from you and gotten into great music because of you, keep it up!
Tell us what you've learned from him? How not to play properly?
This 3 Dimensional personality IS POPPING! Love it Josh!
Popping what?
Thanks for putting yourself out there with the Q&A! I think a lot like you do.
Thanks Josh for great answers! I met you in Ljubljana and cannot wait to see you again in a little bigger place for the audience though :-), keep up the good work!
Marie's, or her predecessor's appearance is always a joy! Fantastic tip - learn a new number slowly! 'Bess you is my Woman' - one of the loveliest of songs, but a very satisfying challenge. Thousand thanks Josh!
Thanks for the video, man. That was awesome. I've been following you since my friend showed me your cover of "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" some years ago (of which upon seeing I was simply amazed) and I'm always learning from watching your material, but this video alone taught me so much more than any other of yours combined. So, thanks again. Salutations from Australia!
Thanks Josh. Well edited and produced. Having recently produced a tutorial or two myself, I’m aware of the effort and time that’s involved. You’ve learned a lot along the way. And you’ve shared a lot too. And taught us lot along the way. Great insight into “the other” Josh Turner, the only one I listen to.
Hi! Thank you very much for taking the time to talk with us here. Please let us know if you guys are coming to Brazil. I am sure that many people (me included) are looking forward to that.
You stuck that ending accent perfectly. ...Listened to a whole playlist of your new album and The Other Favorites albums making breakfast yesterday. What a great vibe that was! My wife loves you (well, strongly appreciates your songwriting and playing), and my 12-year old violinist son paused for a long time in front of the speakers and listened intently. New fan. ...I'm also very sad that in mid-July we'll be in the North Cascades when you'll be in Portland, so I won't be able to come to your concert. I'll be there in spirit. And you can stay at our place next time. --Michael
that outro was awesome!

Haha!!😂 What a fun video!! Thanks for sharing your opinions. Really enjoyed watching this, and really enjoy your music!!
Thanks Josh...Learning some stuff about you was nice. I am a 56 year old fan from Flagstaff Arizona. I have been watching you on RUclips from the start. Just flat out like what you do. Not to leave out your friends....all of them... My thanks to them too. My sincere gratitude until your better paid!
"you're better paid". Another ignoramus.
Thanks for your music!

Thanks again for your music.
I have particularly enjoyed your Graceland video.
Josh great video, I really enjoy your videos your a very talented/hard working young man! Keep up the great work!!
I enjoy how your personality comes out here as in many of your videos. You seem to be extremely talented. I saw a video of you and your friends in London and you seemed a bit shy. I'm sure your lighthearted personality will eventually come to fuller expression!!
Hi Josh, I 'am From France and I really appreciate all your videos, songs and collaborations.
Your such an inspiration for me as a beginner. I noticed you are always on tour only in Paris in France.
Would you think about touring in other cities in Southern France for example?
That would be amazing we have lovely places to welcome you with your band. Cheers.
I like you a whole lot, Josh. You are talented as all get out; you are unpretentious; you don't look or act like a druggie or alky; your are smart as a whip. I am so happy that you get to dive in all the way as far as your musical aspirations. Truly living the dream.
Great vid. Nice to hear from you in this way. Keep up the good work
wise beyond your years and super smart young man! Love your vids
Great advice Josh - Love your music videos love your harmonies Love that you cover old songs too. Love your improvisation & the fact that your a talented multi-instrumentalist at such an early age.
I waited so long for this. Not disappointed.
Greetings from Sechelt BC. I’m very much looking forward to making the trip into Vancouver to come and see you guys play next month. Keep doing what you’re doing!!!!!
Glad you finally did this. Loved it. Your long-term fan/subscriber. -- Scott

I'm coming to see you perform in Albuquerque on the 29th! I'm so excited! 😍😍😍
Brazil yay!! We'll be eagerly waiting Josh x

Great Q/A Josh. Love your work. My favorite so far is you and Taylor B. on the bus with the other guys.
OMG HE SAID BRUSSELS, Im gonna see you guys in Machelen next year. Very excited!
Looking forward to South Dakota! What a great collaboration you guys have with Reina.
Love your work Josh. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome vid! Your advice on singing while playing guitar helped me a lot, keep it up man!
Are you real?? Did you get paid to say that?
@@brimkathstampex2306 hahaha, Yeah Im real, why? 🤦♂️
That introduction is gold!
Question: How did the first Graceland concert in Leicester go?
Answer: Absolutely brilliantly. Knockout performances all round. Josh was flawless and the Gospels choir full of energy. The rest of the band were all top talents, fine drumming and Nicola on everything brass. Fret less bass starred in two versions of Call Me Al and second guitar excellently played. Keyboard was the best too. This tour is going to be a blast. Thanks for a great unforgettable evening.
Rewatching this before catching your Bygones show in SD. Stoked to see you okay live. Love your art and vibe and will be saving up for your acoustic guitar. I've had a really nice Taylor for years but want something legit that's not so anxiety inducing to take places and quasi abuse in that giggin' way. Anyways, cheers! Stoked to buy y'all's vinyl at least 🫶 curious about other merch as well
I love your music! Ladybug is my favorite song right now. You speak very well also. If I wasnt so poor I would be supporting your channel. Sorry about that
Elaboration in the vocal development thing:
The age that your voice stops maturing is dependent on voice type. Tenor voices stop maturing during your late 20’s-early 30’s and low bass voices stop during your 50’s.
Shame his vocal 'development', for want of a better expression, has gone on for so long.
@@brimkathstampex2306 How's yours?
@@Selvikus As good as it's ever been. Thanks for asking.
Thanks for the spectacular Q&A.

As amazing as you are, the fact that you like Moxie soda makes you even more amazing. Great stuff!
MOXIE!!!! As a Mainer (Main'ah), home of the Moxie festival, I thank you for the plug!
It's really nice to get to know you a little better. I'm very positively surprised you mention Josquin Desprez!!!
Thank you for making a Q and A video SO great!
I don’t know why but you always seemed much younger to me! We’re the same age but you’ve accomplished so much and I appreciate that you’re not somebody who is elitist in terms of what constitutes as “good pop music”. And boy, I too learned how to “read” music and after I wanna say 12-16 years, I still cannot properly do it although sight reading is slightly easier which might make no sense.
On a note about you saying you don’t have a touring manager as of this video and while I’m not sure if it’s something that you’d be interested in doing, from what I’ve heard (and seen from smaller artists I listen to), house touring seems to be a reliable-ish sort of way for touring? A few of my friends who are independent solo musicians like you who don’t have touring managers (and other musicians that I’m a fan of), have liked house tours in the past just cause it’s a cozy and intimate way for them to perform in a smaller and quiet way and usually the people/fans who volunteer their homes for house shows are usually down to have the performers spend the night there as well which I’ve heard is pretty cost effective. Again, I don’t know if it’s something that you or anyone else you’d be touring with would be cool with that since you’d be discussing stuff like payment between yourselves and most likely a fan but it might be fun, who knows.
Your editing by the way is, as the hip young people say, “on point👌🏽”.
Loved this video. You arecan extremely talented guy. Love the music you put out whether alone orvsurrounded by other very talented people. I really thought you were much younger (just based on looks), but that'll be a good thing as you get older (trust me). Loved to watch the hair change during each edit. Lol. Thank you for the video! Look forward to your next video!
Hang on, Josh. If you hang around for long enough and do your best, you will be rewarded.
Hey man, I've been watching sense the life in the fast lane, sultans, and sweet baby James, days. Very cool to learn more about you. Soon as you're in Florida I'll be at a show. If you need help deciding on venues hit me up. There are venues in Pinellas county from 50 to 5000 that are all good. Keep up the fabulous work.
Just found you a few weeks ago. You and your friends are very impressive. Keep up the good work.
I believe IT will last for as long as you breath............. [ comic relief only : glad you got over your drinking situation ] Seen you & Carson in person for the first time last night in Portland, Maine. May I say thank you for a wonderful evening. Hope you both know the Poland Spring bottled water is just an hour away from Portland... It was amazing seeing and listening to you both live. I felt so happy and in a special place. Again respect and thanks.
Thanks for all Josh. Greetings from France !
Bless this young man for having humility. A shortage today with all of the narcissism.
I'm a fan of just about all music I can think of, from the very earliest known music to the plainchant of the early medieval and the emergence of polyphony, through Renaissance and baroque (early music, both sacred and profane, is probably my favourite, followed by Indian classical music) but includes western and bluegrass, rock and roll, pop and rock music as well as jazz. That's one of the reasons I appreciate Josh's music so much, because he slips so easily between different genres. (Ever had a stab at the sitar or the oud, Josh?)
Language and foreign languages are also among my hobbies, so I was especially intrigued to hear Josh sing a Georges Brassens song with such an authentic accent, though he said he never had one French lesson, which means he learnt it purely by ear. No-one, except for those who know about such things, can truly appreciate just how difficult that is, because it's one thing to hear spoken language, and another skill entirely to reproduce it faithfully - for the reason that, for most people, it's next to impossible, firstly just to hear the subtleties and nuances of unfamiliar sounds, but then they lack the vocal technique to be able to control their 'speaking apparatus' to produce what they hear. Many French listeners have confirmed the authenticity of Josh's rendition of 'Je m'suis fait tout p'tit', but his skill extends to other languages, too, which means he has a quite exceptional ear, as well as a prodigious musical talent on strings, of course.
His advice to young guitarists - to learn the piece you're studying note by note and at a slow pace - is a precious word of wisdom from one who knows, because it is precisely there where the music (and the magic) begins.
Thank you, Josh.
Nice to meet you , John! (well, see your videos anyhow). Love your music....
My man, Moxie is nectar from the gods. That's the source of your talent.
