    That's a great pike to start with.Don't bank on that happening every time,but its great to hear my tips work for you.A lot of anglers are getting more pike since watching our Totally Awesome Fishing films. Rod length 9 feet.About 1 1/2 lbs tc.10 feet would be longest rod otherwise you can wear your arm out using a longer rod for twitching deadbaits.Send Mike a pic of your next one to our facebook

    Most tackle shops should sell them ,but do get the long nose variety.I would also suggest typing "long nosed artery forceps" into your search engine and see if there is anyone online doing them cheap.worth checking out before you rush to the tackle shop. Good Luck.And spread the word on Totally Awesome !!!

    5 traces will be enough to start with. Make sure you use an SSG or swan shot for added weight pinched on right by the nose of the bait. Twitch slow not fast, when you feel a bump/grab open the bail arm give them a good few seconds then close the bail arm and strike. With the sprats if you are using them tomorrow keep them chilled in the bottom of the fridge. Look for over hanging bushes, deep holes and edge of weed beds. Good Luck. T/A Fishing

    thank you taf this has to be the easiest and best trace I hav seen make and brilliant instructions. thank you so much for sharing.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  12 лет назад +1

    Yes,you can do.Or floatfishing .Legered sprat can be pretty good,it was my main method back in the early 1970's when I ran my own opercular tagging programme for pike.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 лет назад +1

    Yeah,good hooks,actually Partridge of Worcs marketed them after Vic designed them.I drove all the way up to their factory in Redditch I think it was,when I was doing a story on Alan Bramley.Don't know if Vic is still about but I'm sure he would be pleased with all the publicity we at The Totally Awesome Fishing Show have generated.I actually want the same hook,but with an offset crank between the opposed alignment.Make them even easier to get out I feel.I have been using them for over 30 years.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 лет назад +1

    Yes,small Rudd are a great deadbait,but try to lose the treble hooks.Or simply snap one of the prongs off to make a double.That way you can turn them over easier for unhooking.Keep one barb on for holding the bait by the front though.

  • @bradleylaw6469

    i had a good 10lb pike out on a sprat using the twitching method and that same set up its brilliant thanks

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  12 лет назад +1

    Yes,best to use wire trace,if you don't you can bet your last deadbait a pike will grab it and snap you off. Good luck,and send Mike a picture if you get anything.

  • @TAFishing

    No idea as I've had it for years, but it is for sea fishing really, so I would try your nearest sea fishing tackle shop. But don't get plastic coated. Only twisted strand .Good luck(Or try the internet/ebay)

    Hi Graeme, Great video.. I have been using the bouble hook system for 100yrs and had tons of pike on them.. i used to make my own by whipping 2 single hooks together
    (&still do) cos at the time you could't buy them then.. the VB hooks you show are
    Vick Bellers who market'ed them!
    A fantastic method.. Geoff Smith

    i was very lucky once. Was floatfishing with worms as bait and caught a perch at 33 centimeters around luchtime. Ran out of luck and then i changed to a small shadspinner and in 1st cast got a pike. 2nd cast another pike. Had no trace on because i fished for perch and after the 1st pike didn't expected another one :-) Guess i was luckier than i deserved :-)

    Anytime from now through to February really, but it's more if the river conditions are right (if you are river fishing). Ideally you need to have had no rain for 2 weeks, that would be ideal conditions

    Mine is 40lb breaking strain.If I put the single in the back of the bait its partly buried.I use it upfront as the hookpoint is then clear,and the rear VB only has the smaller baitholder hook in the bait,the larger half is clear.I'm also working on a variation ,plus a weedless hook so I can pull the deadbait through weeds.If it works OK expect a film.Good hunting.

    Hello there great videos, I make my traces with 30lb multi strand stainless steel trolling - trace wire very thin and plastic coated, I got that after watching one of your videos.
    *
    My Personal best pike to date is a 21 1/2lb pike caught from the Grand Union Canal in the late 80s, I have Hooked some real whoppers in the past that had to be 30lb plus from the great Ouse in the 90's, I had to use some large dead baits to catch those. Off out on another fishing trip in a week I'll make a video when I catch my next biggie.

    Hey Graeme.. When making your rig, why dont you fix on your double hook first..& then put the single on last! its much easy'er! good video though.. i like the little plug
    about otters ect..
    I bought some of the wire you use 'Tide Cheater' but it comes under another name of
    'Mini Wire Rope' but i could only get it in 50lb but very thin though, what breaking strain
    is yours it seems to twist easy?

    Cracking video! Went down my local river to try pike fishing out and i used this method and within half an hour i was into a fish. Turned out to be just under 10lb which is my first ever pike and largest fish ive caught. So thank you!
    What rods do you recommend for this type of fishing? length and tc?

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 лет назад

    No, but lots of anglers try to cast them too hard. Toss them through the air rather than hard cast. All my twitching sprats is done close to mid range. I try not to cast them too far.Or add a float if you want more distance and twitch that back.

  • @micheallyons8332

    Hi guys, how much does it matter if the whipps are touching and how many fish are these rigs safe to use for. Do they loose some strength after they have landed a fish?
    Been pike fishing for years and always used shop bought traces but I've got sick of the expense.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  10 лет назад +1

      No ,you don't need touching turns when spinning up the wire strands. As to number of pike ?Once it starts to have a couple of strands fray off go to another trace.You can generally cut off the frayed part and make another trace from the leftovers.Don't go too short with it though. I've had quite a few pike on the one trace,but equally a pike that twists it up means it might only be worth using once !!! I'd say half a dozen pike before giving it good look over.

      I don't know what the latest craze on wire is...I'm still using my Tide cheater..maybe try a sea fishing shop or look online. The best quality wire I used to rig with for Big Game fishing was called Sevenstrand Duratest.it was cabled multistrand and very supple,I used coffee coloured,but I dont know if a)-they still make it,or b)- what their lower breaking strains are.
