Oh how this song touched me when written and now even more. Cynthia never ceases to move me with anything she sings. So thankful today I came upon this.
This song is soooo hard to find online! I remember at 16 (I’m 65 now) I fell in love with piece and in my times of despair, it uplifted me sooo much! Thank you for sharing! Thank you Lord for the mind and heart that composed this….the lovely voice that sings it. The Apostle! Glad I was part of the choir that sang it at 16
Beautiful song. I heard this since the 1980s. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Paul wrote, "Give thanks in all circumstances for it is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus."
Only come across Cynthia in 2022. Her singing is so anointed and it reveals the deep passion and love she has for Jesus. Almost every song she sings ministers to me. God can and does use music . Great that your allowing yourself Cynthia to be used by God to minister to all people. Be encouraged I was one who God set free from immorality and it wasn't too hard for Him too do. He is God Almighty and He loves us all .So go my dear beloved sister to all who are lost in this dark world. Whether in church are outside of it we are all sinners saved by grace. For when we love and obey God with all our hearts ...and we love our neighbour we understand the fullness of God's word. LOVE is the more excellent way....
This is one of the most beautiful songs that's ever been written! Thanks Dan. It speaks so clearly of how we really deal with everyday situations, trials, temptations, pain... wow. Thank You Lord!
That was a beautiful. Song. Preaching is not always the way to individual thru the message. The words of a song, brings that incredible words brings us to Jesus
I have always wondered how this song should be sang. It's a blessing to have found this video. Beautiful music, both the piano and the singer. And it's a privilege to see the song's composer.
Hello, I'm from Jakarta, Indonesia. I knew this song since I was a student in a college in Yogyakarta and lived in a dormitory ruled by nuns, called Syantikara back to 1990. One of my fellow (now she's a SCJ sister/nun in Myanmar) tought us for a mass service in a church near our dorm, and to celebrate our dormitory anniversary in the next following year. Since then, this song touched my heart in a very special way. Give me the strenght I need when I have to face dark times in school, jobs, relationships, and so on. But I never feel so touched like this. In February 2021, our little family battled with covid. My husband's very ill, he got the worst symptoms and been in critical situations for several times. I can't count my tears, but Our Lord does. He answered my prayers in the most magical way, right at the moment everytime I need. We survive from covid now. When I look back to many nights, I feel that He gives me blessings through those trials. He gives us all we need, help, supplies, and special prayers from our family, friends and relatives. Those are the proof that we are not alone. He always there to help, lead, and guide. All I have to do is surrender and believe, He will put everything in place. Yes, I Thank You, Lord. (Nana Lystiani)
What beautiful words and sentiments provided by Dan Burgess. We will miss his God given talent, but we will also hope to hear the beautiful voice of Cynthia Clawson again soon! Beautiful piano as well! Thank you Lord!
If you get a chance to see her, take it. I am a singer and a musician but there isn't a person on earth like her. An absolute gift from GOD. You will be blessed.
My beloved died last August and it took me 3 months before I could listen to this. I recently passed it to a friend who lost her husband 3 months ago and she was ready to hear it. She so appreciated the song and it has helped both of us a lot. Thank you Cynthia for singing it.
There are pianists, and then there's Brian Mann. Exquisite playing! I must confess I have trouble appreciating Cynthia's singing with such rich accompaniment!
Dan Burgess, Brian Mann, and the perfect voice and interpretation of Cynthia Clawson make one heavenly ordained collaboration!! You three may never know the result of your efforts until Heaven.
Thank you, Lord, for the trials that come my way. In that way I can grow each day as I let you lead, And thank you, Lord, for the patience those trials bring. In that process of growing, I can learn to care. But it goes against the way I am to put my human nature down and let the Spirit take control of all I do. 'Cause when those trials come, my human nature shouts the thing to do; and God's soft prompting can be easily ignored. 2 I thank you, Lord, with each trial I feel inside, that you're there to help, lead and guide me away from wrong. 'Cause you promised, Lord, that with every testing, that your way of escaping is easier to bear. But it goes against the way I am to put my human nature down and let the Spirit take control of all I do. 'Cause when those trials come, my human nature shouts the thing to do; and God's soft prompting can be easily ignored. 3 I thank you, Lord, for the victory that growing brings. In surrender of everything life is so worth while. And I thank you, Lord, that when everything's put in place, out in front I can see your face, and it's there you belong.
I heard this song sung by Continental Singers years ago. The lyrics just touched and spoke to me at the time I was going through the storm in my life. Thank you for using your gift of music to comfort and bless our hearts when we so need it.
Dan, I'm so glad you chose Cynthia and Brian to record your INCREDIBLY beautiful songs!! Doesn't get any better than these...you three are a blessed, gifted combo!
More than forty years ago, I had the privilege of being in a choir at Valley Cathedral (Phx AZ), led by my friend John Swaim, when we performed Dan Burgess' inspired collection called "Press On." The memory of those days has blessed me many times since, and this performance by Brian and Cynthia brings it all back again. What a beautiful, spiritually powerful moment this is.
First time I heard this song on Thanksgiving day 2021, always loved Cynthia’s voice. Dan I heard your name for years I am going to delve into your music. This clip touched me deeply at a time I needed it most. Thank you Lord! Happy thanksgiving!
Thank You, Lord, for the trails That Come my way In that way I can grow each day as I let you lead, And Thank you Lord, For the patience those trials bring. Talk about an anointed song, anointed pianist and of course Cynthia Clawson is in a category by herself and thank you Dan Burgess for this anointed song....powerful and heartmoving...I have had the joy of accompanying a couple soloists on this song!
I love this song. First heard it in the early 80’s and only remembered bits and pieces. Good to hear it sung by Cynthia Clawson as a song of gratitude. Thank you Dan Burgess for a spark of heavenly comfort created by this song.
I was looking for the backstory to this song because I will be playing it (on my saxophone) at the funeral of one of the dearest people I know and one of the best piano players. We first did this song together back in 1986 just a few weeks after her husband of 38 years had passed away. We went on to do this song together at least 12 more times in church with the last time being in 2014. Over the years we really didn't have to practice, but we would just play together and let the words flow through us. It was such a sweet time. She passed away this past weekend at the age of 93...I will miss her but "Thank You, Lord."
Thank you Lord for every things you have done in my life. Thank you Lord for my trials and I Know that He always behind me and take care me. Thank you Lord for every things. I really really love this song so much. It's a great song I heard
I was blessed to spend last weekend with Dan Burgess and twelve other "ex-Cons" from Continental Singers Tour 1973-C in Nashville, Tennessee. I am thrilled to find these songs online to relive to wonderful memories of our group travels, and the awesome talent of our director that summer.
One of the first songs I made part of my solo repertoire back when I was around 18; I sang it for 20 years as a testimony and always just loved it so much. So thankful, for CC's example of great singing to me, SO thankful for Dan Burgess's song. Great memories. I need to sing this one again for all the sweet people for whom I give concerts in assisted living facilities. Gonna dig it back out today.
Thank you, Dan, for sharing these incredible videos with the world. This song has followed me and inspired me all through my ministry - the words becoming more powerful as the years go by. Cynthia Clawson - what better singer to interpret this song? None. Period. She, too, has inspired me, lifted me, comforted me, challenged me, thrilled me ever since I first heard her in Chapel services as a student at Baylor University in the 1970's. (Her sister, Patti, was my church pianist once upon a time...) And Brian Mann. What an incredible, sensitive, Spirit-led pianist! This is Altogether Lovely, and I cannot wait to share it with others who know and love and appreciate your wonderful music. God bless you!
Thirty five years ago, on October 2, 1981, six seniors from Houghton College were tragically killed in a fatal automobile accident, on their way to pick up their costumes in Buffalo, NY, for the Homecoming Parade that coming weekend. These six students were all spiritual leaders in their own way , members of the Senior class of 1982. Their early passing had a tremendous impact on those of us who were left behind. Many of us found our inspiration and even call upon our lives to live for the Lord. My call into pastoral counseling was a result of their deaths. The night of their passing, there was an impromptu chapel service at Wesley Chapel. One of the decedent's older brother, Warren Bushart, shared this song during that service.. I'm not sure who actually sang the song, but on this anniversary, I remember vividly that evening of shared grief, and even more importanly, hope of Resurrection. Glory be to God on high. May their lives be remembered in our ministries, even today.
Thanks for posting this, Gordon. I actually spent time as a student at Houghton in the late 60s myself. All glory to our incredible God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Your story really moved me. Blessings to you and yours, and to the ministries to which God has called you. Dan
I also used a two part arrangement with my Choir when I taught at a small Christian School in New Jersey, and used that opportunity to share the faithful witness of those six as an inspiration to make their mark in the world, seeing in life's challenges God's faithfulness. Thanks for this song!
Good morning, My mother sang this song at church many times. She was also a minister's wife (for 49 years) and fully understood the depths of this wonderful thought. Thank you, Dan for "Thank you, Lord" and thank you Cynthia Clawson for all the amazing music you've graced us with through the many years. A couple of times I attended the church in Austin that your husband pastored. I wished that I could walk up there and sing with you. But I absolutely sang with you in my seat. I LOVE your album The Hymn Singer. I know a lot of Christians end their correspondence with God Bless you, but I sincerely hope that God richly blesses both of you.
Every time I hear or sing Thank you, Lord I cry because I know how much the Lord has done for me and forgiven me. Thank you, Jesus for your indescribable, incomprehensible, incredible gift!
Dan, thank you for posting these wonderful recordings of your excellent songs! Cynthia's interpretations are as always, without compare, and the intimacy of the piano accompaniment is perfect. May the Lord continue to bless and keep you and all those dear to you. -Gary Dugan
Thank you sooo much I heard this song sung after mass celebrated by the late Msgr Manuel Cruz (retired Chaplain) and was assigned at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Shrine Ubanon Catbalogan Samar Philippines since got the copy of the lyrics song just feel in love and everytime i sing or hear the song i cried can’t control my emotion then i lost the copy of the song I remembered some lines and was asking copy no one can remember and Msgr passed away 20 years ago ....was lestening praising and reflections song everymorning and before going to bed here comes the intro song of the Thank You Lord!!! got it...a million thankssss🙏🏿GOD BLESS!
During a tumultuous period of adolescence this marvelous inspired song became the prayer that helped a confused young man hold on. Eventually I came to understand the deeper significance of the words and today I can say without reservation that those trials are indeed precious, and its hard for me to imagine my human nature ever accepting the gift of salvation had not trials brought me face to face with grace. Thank you Dan Burgess.
*This is Deborah, not my husband John* I am so moved by your expression "... today I can say without reservation that those trials are indeed precious, its hard for me to imagine my human nature ever accepting the gift of salvation had not trials brought me face to face with grace." Face to face with grace....wow. WOW. I concur, whole heartedly. Thank-You Father.
Dan, memories of standing around your upright piano in Cal, January 1973 right after you finished writing this, and the best memory of recording it with Children of Truth. Must have sung this song hundreds of times both with COT and Continentals, with Kirk Dearman, Carloyn Parsons, Edde Faber and Ron Bauer. Such a great song, and wonderful truth. Thank you for the privilege of singing it. Howard Parker sent me word about this new recording of it. Would love to record it again now...Gary Bixler
I first knew that wonderful song when I accompanied MYRTLE HALL years ago when she sang for Christian Women and then in Concert at First Methodist. SO happy to find it again…Thanks, Don and Cynthia and pianist! merlethepearl
thank you Dan for this beautiful song. I did use this song for our addiction recovery program and it touched every soul that was there. my dearest friend sang it exactly how you explained in the video. I'm very greatful for your talent and the love you have for the Lord..
That "fall" was hard. Disenfranchised Baptists became Alliance Baptist, Anglo-Catholics, Roman Catholics, Methodists and Byzantine Orthodox. And now I do believe SBTS may well surprise us before all this maga meshugas is over...Christ is risen.+
THank you Dan! I love this song since I first heard it in 1975. Always echoing in my life to this day. I hope you post the full album. Love it.God Bless you.
Cynthia came to our church a few times during late 70s and 80s and spent time with my sister, Marilyn, who was just beginning to show symptoms of what became a bad case of BP schizoid affective disorder. Always, she loved Cynthia's music and she felt she had a speciall connexion to CC since her time earlier. Marilyn grew seriously close to Jesus and His mother, Mary, became closely important to her, too, especially when her mind's creative nightmares grew ever-intense and she was attacked by the Evil One in an awful way. Marilyn died unexpectedly 22 March 2015 at her home in Rockville, Maryland. Psalm 139 was used at the Liturgy of Christian Death and Resurrection, Prince of Peace Parish, Darnestown, Maryland. (This is beautiful. I wish i could include it in my audio psalter of music for Christian Prayer, morning, evening prayer ; compline and vespers.). Christ is risen, Indeed, Christ is risen from the dead. Hallelujah
I can not stop listening to this song.Idid not know until I listened to Dan that he published this song in 1972 the year I came to know the Lord. This song touchs me in away that brings tears to my eyes !I am sitting here sobbing!
Dan, This powerful song has been a blessing, as can be seen by the many responses. My brother Bob and Beth, his wife, lost a daughter at 28 and a son at 47. They know what suffering is, but they also know the sustaining power of God's presence in their lives. Bob's rendition was an inspiration to us and many others. Sometimes God gets a hold of a heart and a pen, and the resulting song reaches out to others in a profound way. Blessings, Ron Sprunger
I want to thank you, Dan Burgess, for allowing you to use your song Thank You Lord in my book, Bundles of Joy, A Journey Blessed With Two Special Need Children. It has become the song of my heart. I have been asked to have the song sung at my speaking engagement . Thank you again!
Dan - thanks for sharing these 3 videos ... I go back to the MUSICalifornia days, first around 1980 and then again several years in the mid-90's. When you were the MC you did such a great job - you kept things light when they needed to be, but allowed tender moments to linger. Back when I was directing a choir, the choral book with your songs lasted through the years with several favorites. Glad to see you're still doing your thing and I'm continually blessed by your lyrics and the melodic strains ... thanks for sharing it with God's people!
You made my day, Donn. "Young men see visions, and old men dream dreams." My dream has always been that what God gave me would have an impact on people until I'm actually with Him. Your gracious comments go a long way in fulfilling that dream. Blessings to you and yours. db
I'm loving Cynthia's rendition ... Beautiful -- remember this song from years ago. I'm a tad "confused" with the lyrics rewrites, [totally get why]. Thank you!
Thank you, Mr. Burgess. Beautiful lyrics and music. It's one of my favorite songs. It took me a while to find it. We have a Vietnamese version but I don't know the English lyrics until I typed your name in RUclips. May God bless you and your music ministry. To God be the glory!!!
Oh how this song touched me when written and now even more. Cynthia never ceases to move me with anything she sings. So thankful today I came upon this.
Oh my! What an incredible song and message. How God has used Cynthia Clawson to bless so many. Thank you, Lord!
The legendary Cynthia Clawson, it is always a great pleasure to listen to her spellbinding voice.

You musicians are wonderful and I thank God for you.
There are so many words behind the words and they fill my struggling heart with meaning.
Thank you, Lord,
for the trials that come my way.
In that way I can grow each day
as I let you lead,
And thank you, Lord,
for the patience those trials bring.
In that process of growing,
I can learn to care.
But it goes against the way
I am to put my human nature down
and let the Spirit take control of all I do.
'Cause when those trials come,
my human nature shouts the thing to do;
and God's soft prompting
can be easily ignored.
2
I thank you, Lord,
with each trial I feel inside,
that you're there to help,
lead and guide me away from wrong.
'Cause you promised, Lord,
that with every testing,
that your way of escaping is easier to bear.
But it goes against the way
I am to put my human nature down
and let the Spirit take control of all I do.
'Cause when those trials come,
my human nature shouts the thing to do;
and God's soft prompting

I thank you, Lord,
for the victory that growing brings.
In surrender of everything
life is so worth while.
And I thank you, Lord,

out in front I can see your face,
and it's there you belong.
Absolutely beautiful❤

My joy! JHP
Every time I hear or sing Thank you, Lord I cry because I know how much the Lord has done for me and forgiven me. Thank you, Jesus for your indescribable, incomprehensible, incredible gift!
Very nice voice!
That is one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever heard/seen. Thank y’all for this reminder.
Dan, thank you for posting these wonderful recordings of your excellent songs! Cynthia's interpretations are as always, without compare, and the intimacy of the piano accompaniment is perfect. May the Lord continue to bless and keep you and all those dear to you. -Gary Dugan

Your story brought tears to my eyes. All glory and praise to our loving God. Blessings to you and yours.
Boy, it took me some time to find the real deal. Too beautiful for words. Much love from Malaysia.
I've been listening to her for my 42 years in Yeshua. Favorite album is her singing the old hymns. Simply wonderful.
I first knew that wonderful song when I accompanied MYRTLE HALL years ago when she sang for Christian Women and then in Concert at First Methodist. SO happy to find it again…Thanks, Don and Cynthia and pianist! merlethepearl
Myrtle Hall, oh my. She was one of the first Christian artists to record that song. Thanks for the kind word, Merle, and the happy memory.
I'm soooo blessed. Thank you.
So blessed...thank you Dan and thank you Cynthia...so loved and love your music!!

Thank you, Mary Ann.
thank you Dan for this beautiful song. I did use this song for our addiction recovery program and it touched every soul that was there. my dearest friend sang it exactly how you explained in the video. I'm very greatful for your talent and the love you have for the Lord..
Thank you, La Naea. My joy!
I had the privilege to share days with you , Cynthia at Southern Seminary "before the fall", you continue to sing God's truth
That "fall" was hard. Disenfranchised Baptists became Alliance Baptist, Anglo-Catholics, Roman Catholics, Methodists and Byzantine Orthodox. And now I do believe SBTS may well surprise us before all this maga meshugas is over...Christ is risen.+
saw Cynthia at a Gaither concert many years ago. Cant get any better.
Soooo beautiful
THank you Dan! I love this song since I first heard it in 1975. Always echoing in my life to this day. I hope you post the full album. Love it.God Bless you.
Brilliantly sang and the lyrics too. It is singing to me..
Just love this song...Beautiful
Hallelujah
So, so beautiful
I can not stop listening to this song.Idid not know until I listened to Dan that he published this song in 1972 the year I came to know the Lord. This song touchs me in away that brings tears to my eyes !I am sitting here sobbing!
Dan,
This powerful song has been a blessing, as can be seen by the many responses. My brother Bob and Beth, his wife, lost a daughter at 28 and a son at 47. They know what suffering is, but they also know the sustaining power of God's presence in their lives. Bob's rendition was an inspiration to us and many others. Sometimes God gets a hold of a heart and a pen,
and the resulting song reaches out to others in a profound way.
Blessings,
Ron Sprunger
I want to thank you, Dan Burgess, for allowing you to use your song Thank You Lord in my book, Bundles of Joy, A Journey Blessed With Two Special Need Children. It has become the song of my heart. I have been asked to have the song sung at my speaking engagement . Thank you again!
My joy, Janice.
Amazing! Thanks, stay blessed!
Thank you!
Nice song.. praise you o Lord 🙏🙏🙏. Keep safe

Thank you, Kelly. Dan
Amen
Just wow. wow wow wow. praise Him.
Thank you, Liam. Dan
