It's only normal to assume that Tenzin spent most of his time wth Aang getting trained and learning the ways of airbenders. It's also mentioned in Legend of Korra that he was Aang's "favorite". This is most likely due to how much time the pair spent together.

Meelo had some pretty great character development. I loathed every time he was on screen for the first 2 seasons, but the 3rd and 4th seasons he was great.
I hate that almost everyone underestimated mello is just because the different way he bend his airbending. I think Mello will grow up to be an amazing airbender because he had a lot of fighting experience when he was young, and he was really an airbender who was agile and creative in his use of airbending. (Sorry for my english.still learning)
