I love that you guys took the time to break down this defensive MVP award and talk about it in this fashion because I think all three of you have brought up great points. When having someone like Ben Wallace that did it regular season and playoffs that is greatness and there is a disparity on the criteria for defining the greatest defender in a season and unfortunately to many things that great defenders do, don’t end up on the stat sheet.
Whoever wins this Nuggets-Wolves series will be the champ.

I started watching NBA around 2005, so I missed Hakeem and the prime of Ben Wallace, but I did get to watch prime Dwight Howard. I just can't believe that Rudy could be in the same conversation as him, let alone better if you just count the DPOY🤬
That man put fear into other teams, I saw DWade once trying to dunk on him baseline, and got rejected out of bounds, both him and the ball. I saw him block a Ray Allen corner 3 pointer by jumping a foot away from the restricted area... I saw him ragdoll the whole Celtics front line that included Perkins, Glen Davis and Kevin Garnett. KG talks a lot of shit, but I've never seen him do it to D12. I've also never seen someone try and matchup hunt Dwight, like they frequently do with Gobert. And the great defense he played, past his prime, on Jokić during the 2020 run.
Was the Jazz a great defensive team when Rudy was there? I don't think so..and still the Jazz were the best defensive team when Rudy won his DPOYs there!
