  • Hey Fam! In this week’s episode of The Ryan Leckey Show we have my former co-worker at WNEP-TV and acclaimed Author Marisa Burke! Wondering where she’s been since she’s left Channel 16? Well, now, you can find out! Buckle up because this is going to be an exciting and super informative ride!
For decades, Marisa Burke was a revered and respected anchor at WNEP-TV, a top-rated ABC affiliate in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. This story is full of unexpected twists and turns. We hear about the scandal, the betrayal, and ultimately, the inspiration of redemption. We really get into the nitty gritty details of Marisa’s life, both professionally and personally, and the public humiliation she endured when her life changed from reporting the news to being the news.
This podcast is a real eye-opener. Marisa holds nothing back in our conversation of what she and her daughters went through when her husband/father was arrested and charged with sex crimes involving underage boys. As a prominent figure in the world of local television news, Marisa’s ideal life came crashing down when news of the charges against her husband became the top local news story.
Marisa tells us why she decided to reveal all of the inner details of her life during this scandalous time in her memoir, “Just Counting Scores.” It’s a story so intriguing, her book reached the number one New Release in Criminal Procedure Law on Amazon.com. I read it myself… It's pretty amazing how candid Marisa is as she describes her living nightmare. Marisa also explains how she hopes her experiences might help and inspire others in similar situations.
At the heart of this episode, however, is an inspiring testament of Marisa’s perseverance and resilience. Despite the trials and tribulations Marisa faced, she displayed an admirable strength of character and a will to reclaim her professional and personal life. She admits her mistakes and how she missed the red flags that could have clued her into her husband’s double life. She has strived for redemption, rebuilt her life, and emerged as a symbol of courage and fortitude.
I was absolutely floored by Marisa’s honesty and grace during our conversation in this week’s episode. A GIANT thank you to Marisa for agreeing to sit down with me about this vulnerable but inspiring story. I think all of you will be equally as awe-struck as I was when you hear her breathtaking story.
FAM! Don't forget you can listen to every episode of The Ryan Leckey Show on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music and anywhere else you listen to your favorite podcasts!

Thank you Ryan for the outstanding interview. I read the book quite a while ago and knew most of what she talked about but to see and hear her in person, made her story more real. I cried when I read the book and again just now. I pray that she and her girls may find real peace and happiness. I hope she knows how many people care and feel her pain...Amazingly strong and brave lady...

This was an awesome and compelling interview. I just want to note one thing. After the arrest the 2nd time he was investigated he went home and you asked her why she let him in....well legally it was his home. If his name was on the deed he had every right at that point to be there. He hadn't been convicted yet. I'm stating this on legal terms only. She is lucky she was able to get him to leave on his own accord. I love Marisa.

She's brave to be so transparent. The message that I'm getting from her life is, women, it doesn't matter how successful or how long you've been married, if something seems weird, hire a P.I. Your spouse's craziness & narcissistic lies can destroy you & your children's lives! If a P.I. finds out what your spouse is guilty of such illegal activities, at least you can move out & legally distance yourself from your narassistic spouce! Her husband had every single trait of a narassist & how they double-down to protect themselves but no one else! He was a selfish S.O.B.! She's an amazing woman & I hope that her daughters have a good relationship with her & that they all get therapy!

I've listened to all your podcasts and this one is the best one you've done so far. It couldn't have been easy to ask Marissa some of those direct questions knowing you were friends and colleagues. I remember this story very well and I was glad to hear the facts directly from her not just written words in a book. She looks great. I'm glad she found success again because she didn't deserve what happened to her. I hope her daughters take after her regarding strength as they continuously go through the healing process. Great job Ryan. 👏👏👏

Marissa is great storyteller. Unfortunately it's not the best story to tell, but she's so brave to tell her own horror story. Happy to hear you are in a new place with a new life. Ryan, you are a great interviewer. I agree, sometimes when things feel 'perfect' you don't want to rock the boat and ask questions. You and girls are strong. Best wishes!

These are not “guys” they are boys. And when she asked her husband “You did this knowing full well it was against the law?” How about it’s an immoral abuse of power against these boys? If it was her 16 year old daughter and a grown man educator would the legal aspect matter as much?
I know this is her story of the impact to her and her children but nowhere in this interview does she show any compassion toward the other victims of her husband’s manipulation or her role in turning a blind eye. I really hope the book is better than than this interview.

I just watched this interview and I knew nothing of Marisa before this. Two things struck me clearly. She and her family went through a lot because of her husband’s predatory behavior and hurt many people including the family. She is understandably angry and bitter and the book seems to be her therapy (which she will profit well from). However, Ryan, you prompted Marisa numerous times in this interview about HER behaviors to coworkers and bosses. Not once in the entire interview did she apologize for her misleading behavior or the “Savage behavior” as you called it 3-4 times. While she states that she learned so much about herself, it didn’t cross her mind that she hurt others too. She came across quite self absorbed in that respect, as though she (and her girls) were the only victims. Very telling when she went after the fist boy that had “ratted” Mark out in 2008. She also couldn’t admit to you that she was wrong about attacking him via company letterhead. Again it was about how it impacted her and her perfect career. Through the first half of the interview I had extreme empathy for her and by the end, even when you gave her chances to publicly apologize, it didn’t cross her mind to say I’m sorry. She still has more distance to go on her journey.
