Came for the first time to my local hifi shop. They played several speakers for one of their customer. Price range 1000 dollars to 2200 dollars. I listened with them to hotel california by eagles and when I heard Focal I knew what is the difference in sound quality. I was amazed by the clarity and dynamics of this speakers. So i immediately bought them with Marantz av receiver and they are part of my home cinema. Added subwoofer from focal and center speaker weeks after and for that price tag, it’s stunning. Always love to play either lossless audio songs, blu ray films or pc games.

I got a Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-280F and the reason why I got it is because it can handle full range of frequency very well, so its much suitable for action movie and etc. And importantly, I think that because it support full range very well without clipping, I dont need to be an expert to tune my entire system to properly segregate the freq (like for British made speaker). Then one day I bump into this focus speaker at my AV shop. The sound come out from this focal is really great. what I mean by great is the details that I can hear compare to my klipsch is totally different. Klipsch sound like more raw (I dont know if I use the correct word), but this focal sound like the it is pushing the sound out easier to my ear. I didn't have the opportunity to test the focal with movie, but just with music only. I really like the way this focal bring the musical sound out. So I am planning to change my KLIPSCH to this focal. would you recommend me doing so? and is focal speaker really make the musical sound better than klipsch (or is it my tuning got problem)? and how does it handle full range of freq especially those action movie. Will it able to go very very loud. my klipsch I know can go very loud without distortion (easily and naturally bring the music out). Can you please advice me. Thanks.

Bryan Su they are different speakers. Rp 280s are fantastic when it comes to dynamism, they are amazing for home cinema if you are on budget. Honestly I even like them for 2c stereo since you don't need a subwoofer. They are that good as I am sure you already know!
BUT when you listen to these focals (the cheapest of there lines mind you),song after song you realise that you are constantly noticing details that the rp280s missed or rendered as something else.
Ofc Rp280s are no joke. They have more cone area, more cabinet space and that means more bass. If you love rock or heavy metal music they sound fantastic.

Those Klipsch speakers have nothing on PSB X2T speakers. I feel like everybody gets Klipsch because they are more available and it’s the easier way to go... but when you buy floor speakers, it is an investment that you will have to live with for decades. Spend the money and buy speakers in the $1500 and > range.

Great review! I'm in the process of updating my audio system. I have a NAD 368 integrated amp (80 watts) and NAD CD player. Do you think the Chorus 726 would be a good speaker for the NAD? There's no Focal dealer near me---I'll have to drive to about 2 hours to the closest dealer. Thanks!!

Good review Mr. Deal, finally someone in the high end audio world giving these speakers the props they deserve. I have had these speakers for about 4 years, and I am still impressed at how good they sound. Granted at first they did not! Speaker break in I've found out is real. When I first got them I listened for a while and tried to like them but kept putting them back and going back to my old speakers (Klipsch KG1.5) which are still a great speaker by todays standards IMO, but my dealer told me I had to give them time to break in, damn if he wasn't right! The sound just got more holographic, clearer, and natural. I admit though you do have to tweak them a little. 1st, No grill. It looks great on the speaker with all the other nice finishes on there but they absorb too much good sound. To me it caused the soundstage to collapse a bit. 2nd, the grill on the tweeter must come off also. To me it just seems that more air and realism just come out with that magnetic grill is off. 3rd, toe in is a big factor, but this is true with a lot of Focal loudspeakers. It just helps that center image to become so true to life. I run all McIntosh equipment, tube preamp with Telefunken 12ax7 smooth plates in the phono stages and line stage, and SS power amp. With that equipment I thought I needed more expensive speakers to "match" the equipment so I listened to other speaker brands and the Sopra #2's. The Sopra's were really nice but to me out of everything I listen to my 726's seem to sound just as good or better. For the money, one of thee best buys in speakers for build and sound quality!......... Without even lying to myself though, those Sopra's #2's are for real !!!

@@robertk1276 If you have the space in you room do the following and you’ll be amazed:
      1) Pull the main grills off
      2) Take a paper clip and very carefully take the magnetic grill off the tweeter by sticking the unraveled paper clip in the grill and pull it off.
      3) Pull the speaker at least 3ft off the back wall. If you have room 5 ft would be best.
      4) Have the same distance from side walls on each side. Try not to have one side different in material like drywall on one side and glass on the other. If that’s the case you will need window treatments to absorb the reflective sound. It will through off your soundstage if not equally matched.
      5) Make an equilateral triangle with your listening position and the distance between the two speakers.
      6) Toe in speakers slightly as when you sit centrally each speakers tweeter is aimed at your outer temples of your head.
Adjust as desired, but try to take the triangle out as far as you can without collapsing the soundstage. With this done properly, you will be truly amazed at how incredible these speakers can sound.
      Cheers!

I got the 807 V W in Carmen Red piano gloss and they are so unbelievable for the price its silly. The 807's come with a 7" "W" cone driver that is plucked straight from the Utopia line and the extra 1/2" radius is readily apparent in the low end. I am trying to find the 826 V W's in Carmen Red, part of the 30th anniversary limited edition set. Ive read plenty of comparisons against $5-10k and they more than hold there own in detailed comparative reviews. I can attest to the rather large bookshelf's perfection and clarity and non fatigue after hours of Yello, Ital Tek, Nero, Nora En Pure etc. (via Arcam AVR300 stereo direct 120 watt RMS) I own as being beyond expectations. I love them so much I built 30 year old seasoned solid oak stands for them and finished them out in a hand rubbed two tone oil and its just an exotic wonder piece now:)

I also listen to ton of CD's on my NAD 546 BEE CD player which has a internal DAC and it sound great. What would you recommend for an Power AMP, controls and also thinking of an Streamer / DAC. I have a pair of these in a home theatre set up powered by a Denon 2807 av receiver. I play music discs ( SACD, Blu Ray Audio and CD, ) with a Cambridge Audio Azur 752 Blu Ray player. The receiver (amp) does a pretty good job, when I got set Up back 2008 I was probably 60% movies and 40% music , know it’s more 80% music and 20 % movies. So I would love to change the amp although still a AVR but more of a music/ 2 channel stereo oriented set up.

Was set on getting these until I saw that the Focal Aria 926 are currently on sale for not much more dough than these. Will be more than likely ordering them from you guys unless I change my mind last second. Honestly feeling a bit nervous about spending so much on speakers. The most I’ve spent before is 1k for my current SVS Ultra Bookshelfs. But I know that I want floor standers and I know that I want Focal because I’ve had their yellow Kevlar speakers in my car for about seven years and I love them to the moon and back. Ugh decisions..

KEF also designs their drivers and cabinets in house, even with the Q Series, but they source the manufacturing to China. I think those Q Series drivers are awesome, but they must cut corners with their cabinets at that price range.

    • @Dreez76
      @Dreez76 4 года назад +1

KEF uses slavebases in their designs, a very very bad solution to not have ported enclosures.
I was going to buy the KEF Q950, but then realized it's only 1 woofer and 2 slaves... no thx. And considering that those speakers only have 2 active elements for a large floorspeaker at a price of $1500, 75% of that price is productioncost and 25% *at most* is the cost of the materials. Which means the KEF speakers are overpriced for what you get.
