Well said Harvey, It's great to hear you mirror my experience of living in China; I moved to China from the UK in 1992 and lived and worked there for 17 of the following 31 years. China's achievements and progress are, as you know, both eye opening and mind blowing. I returned to the UK in 2013 and when I visited China again in 2018 and 2019 my mind was blown all over again. If the entire UK population knew what we know; there would be a revolution; after all, that's how China got to where it is today. It's an uphill struggle trying to convince people who've never had a reason to question what they've been told, and China is just the tip of the iceberg. You go to China and the disparity between what you've been told and what you're seeing in front of your eyes is so cavernous; you begin to question everything, seek alternative sources of information, you begin to seek the truth. The world and the British empires and the UK's place in it starts to look very different. Spread the truth Harvey . . . make it your life's work.
Please allow me to congratulate you on a well-thought-out presentation, and my wholehearted agreement with it. As a Chinese-Canadian, I'm well aware of the differences between East and West and am frequently frustrated by the misunderstandings of one by the other. I'm old enough to remember when China was so poor it couldn't feed its people, and so the lifting of 800 million Chinese out of poverty by what can only be called effective governance stands as proof positive that despite Western propaganda, China is in good hands. Carry on with your good work, Harvey, truth must take precedence over all else. Kudos, sir!
Do a 144th ranked healthcare system is good? Wirh an appalling doctors per citizen ratio. Uk is very highly ranked on the innovation rankings so he bullshits about that. And has 4 universities top 10 globally. These bullshiters never say one thing negative about China. It’s never balanced. How about China has awful days of work for workers, like US. Not sure which part of Australia you're from, but in Melbourne, all the gps have become private billing, and you'll either have to wait years for elective surgery or pay $10k out of pocket to have surgery at a private hospital. We no longer have free healthcare. We're becoming more and more like the US..
NHS has a lot of doctors however many of them are doing private work on the side and it is legal. Some quit full time work to do locum just so they can be paid more. I had a dentist who did minimal work in order to get many patients through the door as possible. He would simply refuse to remove the tartar buildup, scale and polish my children's teeth which I'd asked for each visit, even though this service is offered 'free' by NHS. It is not really free because dentist practice are paid by NHS for each child patient. I had offered to pay for their hygienist to scale and polish their teeth but the NHS dentist said that wasn't possible to pay. Finally, we went to another country to get it done.
Can you make a video on UK's reporters in China? I watch BBC and SkyNews on TV and I really get so riled up by their reporting. China bad this, China bad that! All this time, I have yet to hear something undistorted/good about China from them. Look at China's progress and constructions, surely there are, at least, a few things to admire there!! SkyNews is vindictive and vicious, their reporters NOT only say nasty things about China, they ALSO twist the truths about China! Why so much JEALOUSY???
It is by design. Western media is no longer about journalism, it is about pushing narratives that serve its governments' agenda. Not only they distort truth, misinform but they also hide truth by simply not reporting. And yes when I figured out they never report anything positive about China, I stopped watching them.
I don't live in UK but your comments resonate with me. One thing that UK is perhaps good at is that it gave you a great education, evident in your incredibly eloquent and thoughtful commentary. I thought you would be good at working in the broadcasting industry - how about CGTN?
Using your own logic, I think you would do very well working for the CIA? That’s a very back handed comment towards this young man who is exposing fair reasons of UK’s decline similar to most other western countries.
I have worked in UK educational system, I can tell you that its education has also been declining for years, there has been a general lack of funding in schools and children in many deprived areas are not doing as well as they should.
This is a great video and the young man is honest and saying the truth . Some people have never seen the world or have never travelled. This is why they dont know anything about different cultures. Can't wait to see his next video. it was very enjoyable to watch ❤❤
I have been living in Australia for almost 10 years now. I went back to the UK for a few weeks, the first time since 2017. It has decade more than I expected. Areas like Sheffield which were always.a bit sh*t, obviously are still that way, what surprised me was that even posh areas like Cambridge and Stratford Apon Avon are really showing obvious signs of decade. Everywhere seemed almost deserted, except for the odd scary bloke drinking beer at 11am. Pretty depressing.
Good insights and observation after living in China for 2.5 years. I hope you can change the views of your fellow countrymen about China positively and not just follow blindly what the UK Government's biased approach and not so friendly Western media towards China. Sad to say, a post Brexit UK government is becoming more unstable and simply follow the US lead.
There should be more young people from Britain like Harvey to speak up for China! What he says carries more weight than any Chinese! Way to go, Harvey!!!
UK leaving the EU was a big mistake, but looking at the EU now it's looking more like a big turgid turd of a political entity. I suppose my views have been affected by some of the recent events but I can now understand why some of you saw it as very unappetising and wanted to leave. Obviously what you ended up getting wasn't an improvement but I can see some of the reasoning behind it.
Leaving the poltical project of the EU has nothing about a trading block it is about self-governance and democratic accountability Unfortunately, the elites are preventing that in the UK. The changing of PM doesn't matter the policy is the same regardless, the need to slow political change and hold the people back from demanding a fair society. The NHS has never been run effectively.
Same in Australia. homelessness are everywhere in Sydney. Living standards has 100% gone backwards for 80% of the people. Our medicare is no longer free.
Developing countries look forward to outcome, whereas the developed countries are guided by process. The economic outcome of China has been impressive and envy of many developing nations. The West are more often than not caught in the due process of governance at the expense of achieving the targeted outcome. Public good is essence to outcome whereas individual rights often conflict in the process and delay or diminish the outcome. Democracy has its merits but is no guarantee for success.
I don’t think the evident corruption in politics and running for elective office in the US qualifies as a “democracy”. It’s easier to be simple than think.
As someone who has lived in Hong Kong for 10 years but born and raised in UK, I agree with some parts of your narrative and disagree on others. First I wouldn't use China as a yardstick against UK. Sure having a change of leadership isn't great but I wouldn't want a leader for life which seems to be what china is doing now. I agree with you on technology as china is really asserting itself here on the world market. Look at payment technology and mobile phone markets are leaps and bounds ahead of western countries. Press freedom is also something china needs to improve on constantly arguing the point about national security for anything they don't like as a catch all excuse. Quality of life in UK is falling with stagnant wages like you say. This makes me wonder why some many ppl are eager to migrate to UK. Look at all the Hong Kong leaving to settle in UK. It's interesting you have a RUclips channel when RUclips is blocked in china and using a vpn isn't allowed... Just my two cents
Political polarization is inevitable and unstoppable under the current governmental structure in the west, and that leads any society to nowhere until a total collapse reforms.
I don’t understand you stayed in homogeneous China being OUTSIDER but yet you disagree with UK approach to accept immigrants? So you want UK to move BACKWARDS be homogeneous and all white?
He was trying to say that UK only tries to makes impression to the world, as country which upholds humanity, but in the reality, UK can't even support the well being of its own citizen, let alone the immigrants. Please think forward not BACKWARD... hypocrisy much?
You seem very committed to this narrative. Having spent decades on both sides I find this very cherry picked to making China sound better than it is. A lot of regurgitation of talking points about china’s tech/EV being better, when they’ve been leading in copying tech. US is leading in AI. Tesla still has the most advanced software in EVs. If you’re going to talk about the economy, then be intellectually honest and talk about all the economic issues China has. China's economy is stagnating, plagued by a real-estate crisis, high unemployment, dwindling confidence among investors
what do you think slowed the chinese economy down? the west slapped sanctions at china and told its people to stop buying chinese products to decouple from china, and the west is gripped by inflation and cost of living crisis which made people less able to buy stuff, which are mainly made in china. do you understand the term "self-fulfilling prophecy"? you tried to slow down the chinese economy, and when it did, you blame them for it. it's a typical behaviour of bullies. "stop slapping yourself" while you're the one doing the slapping.
Difference is China's economic problems are temporary, they are far from being in a crisis, btw these problems are also a result of Western economic stagnation (The West is in recession). You shouldn't view China's problems in isolation. The US might be leading in tech advancements in certain areas, China has more potential, is equally leading in many other fields. In fact, US/Western sanctions will only make China more tech independent, you are underestimating China. And lastly, huge difference is China's industrial capability, the US/West has becoming deindustralised, how are you gonna do well when you rely heavily on other countries to make most of your stuff, especially when you deem this other country (China) as your enemy and trying to contain them economically or even start a war with them.
For your own benefit - just make a trip to China & see for yourself. Hopefully u wouldn't get your brain blown off by your shocking experience. I have met a young couple in Thailand not long ago and they were from US. They were traveling from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and then to Cambodia and Vietnam and before going back to US.
I asked them since they are so near to China why not go to China just for a few days to see China. I was surprised of what they told me. They said according to all their media reports in US. They were advice not to travel to China as China is not a safe country to travel. Very dirty, run down infrastructures, poor transportation system, polluted, robbery is common even in broad daylight and chances of been detained for no reason by the Communist is very high. Because China is an authoritarian state and all foreign visitors are monitored by thousands of cameras everywhere foreign visitors go. Visitors can be detained for no reason.
All these is what they know about China. The couple is around 25 years of age and already so badly being brainwashed by their government-controlled media. This is really sad.
there is always average Jones no matter how easy access the real truth
The same thing happened to my American friends just yesterday, he told me just came back from “Asia” and I ask them where did they went, he said : Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore etc , he had negative reviews about Singapore because the western medias was negative about the “freedom “ of Singapore, and he just said: I was not relaxed in Singapore and it was more expensive than America, and he said he will visit Korea and Japan next year, he just try to avoid talking about China, I believe he just not interested in China. And I ask him “do you know China has 144 hours free visa “? and he says “never heard about that “ . Most of people including rich people in the USA have negative reviews about China, they said “ I don’t trust mainstream media “ but obviously he believes all the fake news anti China propaganda of mainstream media. Sometimes I feel bad for them . How a nO1 country brainwashed their people to hide the truth so much ? Is that good for the intrest of the country?

Is personal time freedom important. Pure cringe from these small channels. Worse than the shitty US right wing channels criticising China.
Thanks for sharing the truth about China. Most young people in the west are uninformed and main steam media are mainly to be blamed. I think people in the west are lazy to do research and learn and about other cultures. We just hear repeated headlines and swallow it whole. I do have hope that people are starting to wake up because of people like you! You are a wise and well spoken young man. Keep up the great work! Thanks again!☮️
They have to badmouth China because China is not only an economic competitor. If people find out Chinese gov can bring much more growth and development to the country, it poses an existential threat to the form of governance of the west
The Chinese government has achieved a good balance because of the socialism. While the western countries have a greater inequality.
China is very unequal. Rural healthcare is 10 times worse than in the big cities. Same with quality of life.
Or they just don't have emigration.

Most Americans and our politicians are ignorant about china and the rise of the global south. we are still living in the past. we refuse to evolve and make much needed changes to our political and economic systems.China and south east Asia in my view is the feature. But in all seriousness, I'm happy that a young man like you has the common sense to see the difference between Western democracy and the so called Chinese dictatorship. Communism according to the stern capitalist. As someone who's grown up in a socialist country back in the 80s that is now a liberal country, i can say without shame that socialism give every citizen their dignity. Abundance of the 80s has now been replaced with poverty, social gaps, and uncertainty.

I'm an Aussie and we have a similar health scheme to your NHS. It's a joke

In their DNA.

Hi Harvey what do you work at in China and what job opportunities are there for westerners? Many thanks.

I totally agree with you, but I think Brixit is turnning point, the economic start down turned when you left big mature unified market from EU.

Look who is cherry picking,?
For your own benefit - just make a trip to China & see for yourself.
Hopefully u wouldn't get your brain blown off by your shocking experience. And I m from Singapore; even we are awed by their progress. In one generation , China leapfrogged us. U been to Singapore yet, seen Singapore?
