    I am an overseas Chinese from the mainland, I have been living in the UK for over 20 years, the UK media as well as other Western media reports about China in a very biased (mostly negative) way and/or outright lie about it almost all the time. Most British/Westerners are very much brainwashed and therefore hold biased ignorant views about China. I always say, you don't have to like China but it is very important you know the truth/facts about China, it helps you to view and learn about the (non-West) world from a different perspective. I am glad Harvey and many like you are open minded and willing to learn from, share and speak out your experience in China, much appreciated! Btw, great work so far, I have shared your videos on my other social media accounts and am glad to inform you that they are well received.
    And you are spot on about the UK's current economic situation, yes the UK is indeed going backwards, inflation is quite bad and many working people are struggling with the rising prices, yet the UK is following along the US foreign policy, choosing to be much more anti China, it is really is sad to see.

      The UK's problem is its subordinance to the US. The US after the second world war did everything it could to sabotage the UK's economic recovery and it succeeded. Since that time most of the politicians have placed the US' interests before those of the UK. The mainstream press has made sure that the electorate has been kept in ignorance of the true facts.

    Hi Harvey, like you, I have spent significant time in China, living there for four years before returning to the UK at the end of 2020. Your observations about the differences and nuances in governance, social dynamics and the economic growth/stagnation across both countries, are not only informative but also align closely with my own experiences. I have felt significant resistance from friends and family when trying to educate them about these differences.. most simply do not wish to know and are quick to downplay or simply dismiss China's achievements. I believe that this lack of desire from the UK to learn anything from China will hinder it hugely in a future where the global economy is dominated by Asia.
    As someone who is planning to move back to China this summer, I find your videos particularly enlightening and relevant. Your perspectives are crucial, especially in today's global context where understanding these differences is more important than ever. Your balanced and informed approach is something I deeply appreciate.
    I encourage you to continue lending your voice to these issues. In my view, China benefits from more Western voices that offer honest, informed, and respectful insights. I look forward to watching more of your informative videos in the future.
    Best wishes

    China is proud of its 56 ethnic groups making up the country’s population but it doesn’t stress diversity like the west. Chinese people view all of China as one big family with regional dialects and customs. No Chinese politicians will turn one group against another by inciting hate. I've observed the gradual decline of all of western Europe since the mid seventies.
    There is a common trend in all those nations - a steady decline of disposable income for the fast majority of the population while only a tiny group of people have benefited from newly created wealth. At the same time state services such as critical infrastructure, healthcare and social programs have been hollowed out to the point of collapse.
    As a consequence democracy no longer functions as it is supposed to and politics in general has devolved into just another get-rich-quick pyramid scheme for the people at the top..

  • @horridohobbies
    @horridohobbies 10 месяцев назад +50

    Westerners criticise China's system of governance because it's based on one-party rule. They believe that you need multiple parties competing for power in order to get good governance. Is that so?
    Look at America, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan. Do these countries have good governance? *In a pig's eye.*
    Western democracy may sound like a good idea on paper, but in practice, it is very problematic. Elections are nothing more than glorified popularity contests. The winners are those who can tell the best stories and make the most compelling promises. _Competence, experience, track record, and intelligence are not required._
    Western democracy is prone to corruption and distortion from money. Money is needed to run a political campaign. Money is the primary tool in lobbying. In Western democracy, this kind of bribery is institutionalised.
    Western democracy is inefficient. Government policies may or may not survive the next general election. This makes long-term planning precarious.
    Government policies are always a *_compromise_* to appease opposition parties.
    Chinese governance is very effective and very efficient.

    Well said Harvey, It's great to hear you mirror my experience of living in China; I moved to China from the UK in 1992 and lived and worked there for 17 of the following 31 years. China's achievements and progress are, as you know, both eye opening and mind blowing. I returned to the UK in 2013 and when I visited China again in 2018 and 2019 my mind was blown all over again. If the entire UK population knew what we know; there would be a revolution; after all, that's how China got to where it is today.
    It's an uphill struggle trying to convince people who've never had a reason to question what they've been told, and China is just the tip of the iceberg. You go to China and the disparity between what you've been told and what you're seeing in front of your eyes is so cavernous; you begin to question everything, seek alternative sources of information, you begin to seek the truth. The world and the British empires and the UK's place in it starts to look very different. Spread the truth Harvey . . . make it your life's work.

As a Chinese-Canadian, I'm well aware of the differences between East and West and am frequently frustrated by the misunderstandings of one by the other. I'm old enough to remember when China was so poor it couldn't feed its people, and so the lifting of 800 million Chinese out of poverty by what can only be called effective governance stands as proof positive that despite Western propaganda, China is in good hands. Carry on with your good work, Harvey, truth must take precedence over all else. Kudos, sir!

      NHS has a lot of doctors however many of them are doing private work on the side and it is legal. Some quit full time work to do locum just so they can be paid more. I had a dentist who did minimal work in order to get many patients through the door as possible. He would simply refuse to remove the tartar buildup, scale and polish my children's teeth which I'd asked for each visit, even though this service is offered 'free' by NHS. It is not really free because dentist practice are paid by NHS for each child patient. I had offered to pay for their hygienist to scale and polish their teeth but the NHS dentist said that wasn't possible to pay. Finally, we went to another country to get it done.

    Can you make a video on UK's reporters in China? I watch BBC and SkyNews on TV and I really get so riled up by their reporting. China bad this, China bad that! All this time, I have yet to hear something undistorted/good about China from them. Look at China's progress and constructions, surely there are, at least, a few things to admire there!! SkyNews is vindictive and vicious, their reporters NOT only say nasty things about China, they ALSO twist the truths about China! Why so much JEALOUSY???

    • @Faye_Liu

      It is by design. Western media is no longer about journalism, it is about pushing narratives that serve its governments' agenda. Not only they distort truth, misinform but they also hide truth by simply not reporting. And yes when I figured out they never report anything positive about China, I stopped watching them.

Areas like Sheffield which were always.a bit sh*t, obviously are still that way, what surprised me was that even posh areas like Cambridge and Stratford Apon Avon are really showing obvious signs of decade. Everywhere seemed almost deserted, except for the odd scary bloke drinking beer at 11am. Pretty depressing.

I suppose my views have been affected by some of the recent events but I can now understand why some of you saw it as very unappetising and wanted to leave. Obviously what you ended up getting wasn't an improvement but I can see some of the reasoning behind it.

    Leaving the poltical project of the EU has nothing about a trading block it is about self-governance and democratic accountability Unfortunately, the elites are preventing that in the UK.

    Developing countries look forward to outcome, whereas the developed countries are guided by process. The economic outcome of China has been impressive and envy of many developing nations. The West are more often than not caught in the due process of governance at the expense of achieving the targeted outcome.
    Public good is essence to outcome whereas individual rights often conflict in the process and delay or diminish the outcome. Democracy has its merits but is no guarantee for success.

    As someone who has lived in Hong Kong for 10 years but born and raised in UK, I agree with some parts of your narrative and disagree on others.
    First I wouldn't use China as a yardstick against UK. Sure having a change of leadership isn't great but I wouldn't want a leader for life which seems to be what china is doing now.
    I agree with you on technology as china is really asserting itself here on the world market. Look at payment technology and mobile phone markets are leaps and bounds ahead of western countries.
    Press freedom is also something china needs to improve on constantly arguing the point about national security for anything they don't like as a catch all excuse.
    Quality of life in UK is falling with stagnant wages like you say. This makes me wonder why some many ppl are eager to migrate to UK. Look at all the Hong Kong leaving to settle in UK.
    It's interesting you have a RUclips channel when RUclips is blocked in china and using a vpn isn't allowed...

    You seem very committed to this narrative. Having spent decades on both sides I find this very cherry picked to making China sound better than it is. A lot of regurgitation of talking points about china’s tech/EV being better, when they’ve been leading in copying tech. US is leading in AI. Tesla still has the most advanced software in EVs.
    If you’re going to talk about the economy, then be intellectually honest and talk about all the economic issues China has. China's economy is stagnating, plagued by a real-estate crisis, high unemployment, dwindling confidence among investors

    • @freemanol
      @freemanol 10 месяцев назад

      what do you think slowed the chinese economy down? the west slapped sanctions at china and told its people to stop buying chinese products to decouple from china, and the west is gripped by inflation and cost of living crisis which made people less able to buy stuff, which are mainly made in china.
      do you understand the term "self-fulfilling prophecy"? you tried to slow down the chinese economy, and when it did, you blame them for it. it's a typical behaviour of bullies. "stop slapping yourself" while you're the one doing the slapping.

    • @Faye_Liu
      @Faye_Liu 10 месяцев назад

      Difference is China's economic problems are temporary, they are far from being in a crisis, btw these problems are also a result of Western economic stagnation (The West is in recession). You shouldn't view China's problems in isolation.
      The US might be leading in tech advancements in certain areas, China has more potential, is equally leading in many other fields. In fact, US/Western sanctions will only make China more tech independent, you are underestimating China. And lastly, huge difference is China's industrial capability, the US/West has becoming deindustralised, how are you gonna do well when you rely heavily on other countries to make most of your stuff, especially when you deem this other country (China) as your enemy and trying to contain them economically or even start a war with them.
