I've done ayahuasca, since I started doing it it has made me change my life for the better. It doesn't miraculously do it for you, you actually have to put in the work but it gives you insight about life in general.
30 years ago I was travelling in Thailand, and at a meditation retreat I spoke with the head monk about this. I asked 'is it possible to reach enlightened state with psychedelics?' He answered 'Of couse! But you cannot hold it. You are too weak. To hold it you need to grow the mental muscles. Meditation will build those muscles.' He smiled and chuckled while he answered, every bit the perfect monk presence :)
Makes sense. Still there are other ways like for example doing LOTs of psychodelix and some meditation, some Katy Byron, some eckhart tolle some other non dualistic stuff and away we go. Whatever it is it takes a lot of doing nevertheless.
Psychedelics don't let me "broken" and they don't make me more "miserable" than before, they actually help me to understand my true nature of existence and help me understand myself in ways that I have never seen before with anything else, after a psychedelic experience I feel better than before because I get knowledge that help me to know how to live a better life
@@Alexbordongarrigos Yes going through the front door by silencing the mind (all chatter and judgement) until there is nothing left... but you! That is a challenging task for many, and obviously the more sustainable and powerful way to connect to the divine. So until that happens, the psychedics are gonna give you the back door "instant gratification" version of the experience, which is awesome, but definitely NOT the sustainable way.
Alex, no, they don't break YOU. They SHATTER the reality that you've created over your whole life in an instant. Really, meditation is about slowly taking that reality apart, brick by brick, or with a sledge hammer at times if needed. It's a much more gentle process then a drugs tend to be. Also, people tend to be able to more easily incorporate the lessons learned from meditation vs doing a substance because it's more gradual.
yeah, it just depends how prepared you are for it and if you have a positive subconsious or not, but as someone who has taken them, I agree that you can achieve the same enlightenment and healing through meditiation. we all learn and experience the same thing differently and i think if people wanted to experience psychedelics go them but personally I think deep meditation has done the same for me! :)

@@brianlittrell797 But how do you know he hasnt had any other psychedelic or mystical experiences? Ayahuasca is not the only hallucinogenic on earth, and you can reach higher levels of consciousness without it. He admits that ayahuasca can give you a push in your path, but he also says, correctly imo, that if you havent earned your spiritual knowledge, ayahuasca will just lift you up momentarily and then just bring you down. Ayahuasca, like any other sacred medicine is a tool, not the path, and sadly, for so many lost souls in the world that cling to anything that gives them a momentary sense of relief from their pain, they see it as this end-all-be-all solution that will simply get them to that famous yet so abstract goal: "enlightenment". I think this medicine is amazingly wise and useful, but you reach a point where you dont need to be sitting down purging or shitting ad going through this sometimes terribly hard experience anymore to evolve in your path. If you need it, that is great. But if you feel like you dont need it, that is great too.
Sadhguru has said in many talks about importance of admitting "I don't know" but I haven't seen him say that about any topic. You ask anything and he will have some strong opinions about it.

Psychedelics is not child’s play. But Mediation leave you with a profound experience and realisations than tripping on either DMT LSD. It just takes time and will give you access organically.
On my very second cup, I melted into and became the Universe (or God, or Cosmic Consciousness, you name it) and I knew we are all one, everything is perfect as it is, and love is what allows everything to exist. I felt eternal and infinite love and understanding. I'm certainly not an enlightened being, but nonetheless that experience saved and changed my life for the best forever. If that's not an "intense spiritual experience", I don't know what else could be...
Just came back from an Ayauasca ceremony with a great shaman (& his wife) from Brazil. It was one of the best experiences that I had and established a deep connection with all natural elements & my mom who passed away. Also, the harmony with myself & the planet was amazing :)
Mushrooms changed my life and using them in the right context and integrating the experiences has allowed me to reach a higher state of consciousness without needing them! These plant medicines are an important tool mother earth has provided for us. They open up your mind in the long term, not just during the experience.
Just because he speaks intellectually doesn't mean he knows whats best for you do what works for you if psychedelics taps you into yourself keep doing you
Its all fun and games until its not... having a clear mind isn't granted and neither is a good trip, you will seriously damage you're mind state forever if not carful... its comes down too luck pretty much too, don't see many people talking about that fact
Taking mushrooms a few times a decade ago changed my trajectory and enlightened me to see a relationship between fashion and nature that is now the joy of my life and my work/passion. Truly amazing.
The biggest problem with people is that they are so lazy and complacent they have zero mystical experience. They do not even know this domain exists. So they have no will to meditate seriously. A psychedelic experience can give you a glimpse that shows you what's possible. It's an immense motivation for many to actually start this journey and to take it seriously.
Exactly. You explain an important factor that Sadhguru missed completely. Psychedelics are not a 100% solution but a catalyst for self-growth. Some people are too stuck in their old ways to listen to any new perceptions, and therefore it must be “shown” to them.
I was positively affected for over 3 months after one 12 minute session. I awoke every morning at 5:30 am without an alarm clock absolutely raring to go. It removed all addiction from me.
After 30 years of meditation I had 5 Ayahuasca ceremonies and this is definitely a shortcut in spiritual life. If you hit a wall in your meditation practice, Ayahuasca will open a complete new world for you.
As wise as Sadhguru is, it becomes clear when he speaks about psychedelics/plant medicines how little he understands about this corner of spiritual exploration.
@Shikhar Choudhary Well of course it's temporary...it's not meant to induce permanent effects. Psychedelics are like having the feast. Meditation is like having your regular dinner. One isn't sustainable, but that's not the goal of it. Psychedelics are quite empty unless you take the experience and integrate it into your life. Also, you described doing psychedelics before meditation...that likely influenced your experiences with meditation following the psychedelics. Psychedelics help point your compass so you know where you're going once you get deeper into meditation. If your experiences didn't lead you anywhere, then unfortunately you weren't consuming them correctly. This isn't either/or...it's both/and.
True liberation doesn't come through plant medicines. They just 'show you the house of spirituality but they don't truly let you in.' The path of Self-realization and purification is what leads to true spirituality. Drugs just give you some insights, which may be helpful in the beginning processes of self-awareness, but for me and my experience with aya (over 25 times) is that within a week after the ceremonies i was back to not feeling well.
@@benzenner8826 That's your experience with ayahuasca. Many go on to have a much deeper connection to spirit (such as my experiences). As I mention above, there is work to maintain what psychedelics provide, but it is all the same at the end of the day. Our sober minds are just as chemically driven/altered as they are when taking substance. You can walk the road of spirituality through meditation on it's own...or when you learn how to use these tools, you can be airdropped up ahead (or behind, if they are used foolishly).
Lsd allowed me to open myself up to realising the true nature of self, it wasn't primary cause but I believe it assisted me, I don't value the experience lsd gave me above any other experience. @@celticdeamon567 Perhaps you misunderstood me. All of this experience is part of brahman. there is nothing separate from Brahma. Anything that appears separate from brahma is still brahma. This universe is part of Brahma, LSD Is part of this universe. LSD is just one part of brahma's total experience, I have realised Brahma, and I have realised that there is nothing outside of the experience of Brahman. This knowledge along liberated me from needing ANY from of external tool to ease, what I thought was, suffering. I'm not necessarily saying that Brahmah is above LSD, that would make no sense. I am simply saying that LSD Is part of brahmah and does not give as much pleasure as knowing brahmah alone. LSD, psychedelics and drugs are included within Brahmah, but this doesn't make them inherently good things on their own. Rape is included in Brahmah, and nobody can say rape is good, yes? Nor does anybody say that "Brahmah is good" Brahmah is just brahmah, goodness is included within him. I think, most people understood my message but I should have put it across clearer. LSD helped with removing the ignorance that the mind is the self, this task did not require the knowledge of Atma Bodha, but rather experience from WITHOUT the mind. This is dangerous and I donn't recomend people loosing their minds, unless they're ready for it and skilled. I was. I wanted this experience and have no regrets, where it has leaded me is complete solace and contentless knowing in my true self as tat tvam asi. Exploration begins at realisation.

Psychedelics are necessary and important for the collective unconcious mind of the modern humans who has lost their connection with nature(themselves).
I’ve done over 50 plant medicine ceremonies (ayahuasca, San Pedro, peyote, Santo daime, psilocybin, Kambo) and very rarely thrown up. I’ve never felt addicted to any of the plants- quite the opposite in fact. I’m forced to feel the emotions and energies in the mind that I had suppressed. Now after all that experience, I have reached a point where my practice is just sitting and not interfering with my mind. It took all that to get to this point of simplicity I suppose. Back then I felt a desperation to get enlightened so I would push myself to the brink with the medicine, thinking I could accelerate the process. But now I realize that just to sit and close my eyes and allow everything to be as it is, is the actual shortcut. Infinite patience leads to immediate results ❤
Ayahuasca has been the most healing thing I have done on my earthly journey... You don't throw up every time. Some people never throw up! This is only one perspective...
If you eat well or do the diet 2 weeks before... you will go through the experience without suffering too much with the purge. If you eat processed food and drink alcohol you will suffer during the purge. Also, don't use weed for 2 weeks before aya. Força e luz!
I know a man that took ayahuasca in Peru. This plant showed him a saint (sufi) man in Morocco and said to him that he is his spiritual master. So he made the travel to Morocco and he met the same man showed by the plant. I know this is unbelievable but it's true

Ayahuasca is nothing near sweet like Coca Cola, and is just as likely to drag you into your shadow side than raise you up ecstatically. Point being, they are different modalities with different aims, and sometimes, Ayahuasca can serve a beautiful purpose to help people confront and work through trauma, forgive, and connect with a depth which clears space for working in the everyday with a new ambition towards the spiritual. So I would say, Ayahuasca can be like water in many ways - it can clean, clarify, bring tears of healing, revitalise, help flow and move on, connect and carry. I did one ayahuasca trip in Peru 7 years ago and my life did a 180 degree turn and lead me to India where I lived for 4 years studying meditation and yoga.
I was a hopeless alcoholic until I found out about ibogaine. Been sober for almost 8 years now and it's been easy. No AA, no cravings, no struggle, no nothing. I'm cured. Purge was definitely a big part of the trip. As was being bedridden and helpless for about 3 days. Primitive stuff compared to what a wise guru can do, Im sure, but there weren't any around.
With due respect, I have to disagree with some of the points made in the video. Firstly, Ayahuasca is a naturally occurring, sacred plant herb. Not chemically manufactured or conjured up in laboratories, to be casually abused. Secondly, it's definitely not something to be ingested for your "casual weekend trip". If the Ayahuasca ceremony is done by trained/ordained practitioners or Shamans, it certainly becomes a sacred doorway for you to explore higher dimensions or hidden parts of your consciousness that requires working upon. All trips with chemically manufactured substances or even naturally occurring substances done erratically or without guidance, invariably end with a crash or damaging your energy system, as mentioned in 6:07. Not the case with a genuine Ayahuasca ceremony. That danger is mitigated, with an ordained Shaman performing the ceremony. Another key point is-- you surrender to the spirit or intelligence present in the Ayahuasca herb. Which navigates/handholds you safely during the trip and shows you only that which you can handle intrinsically, without any damage to your system or psyche.
🙏When it comes to any kind of physical harm to our body, you're absolutely correct. Modern medical science is saying so. However another thing we have to keep in mind that, if you liked the experience and would like to experience it again, you have to use that catalyst. That makes you dependent on it. After going through it once, the dimension is not open for you permanently. On the other hand, if you are able to make yourself capable, you can experience that anytime without any outside help. Proper meditation can help you with that. It'll require a lot of effort, but the dimension will be forever open. If you try meditation for couple of months consistently, you can get a small taste of it. I would like to invite you watch Ayuhasqa experience story from channel called Beerbiceps. 🙏
I agree with you. Sadhguru talks about vomiting and shitting like a caretaker to clean up after a person. He wants you to experience death but still keep your bowels from not reacting? Lol. I've puked and shat and when I was in front of God, that really didn't matter. And the shaman I was with didn't care either. I respect Sadhguru but he speaks profound sounding rubbish.
Slow and steady brings a strong foundation of way of being: Meditation, sound eating, and exercise. Why make it harder by skipping steps and try to jump to a destination faster... the journey is our life.
If it was actually skipping steps believe me I sould go for it, but as Sadhguru said, it is no shortcut, just a heavy cleansing, no consciousness at all in it
It is plausible we evolved with the help of psychedelics. Now more than ever we need their help (again). Most people will fail to find spirituality with such a disciplined approach as meditation. Spirituality by meditation alone is likely a modern concept in the grand scheme.
Ayahuasca is a medicine for healing, it should not be used to seek intense spiritual experiences! So he's right, but I think ayahuasca is amazing if you use it to heal your past trauma. I just came back from an ayahuasca retreat and I am happier than ever!
Yes agree this changed my life and really the best thing I have ever done..Unless you have actually done ayahuasca maybe you are not qualified to comment or make judgements on it...and mushrooms have cured ptsd amongst a raft of other illnesses that "conventional" medicine fail to do in a safe manner...the way your treat them in the right manner with respect and in a healing way.. I love sadghuru but like all you need to do what's right for you and its just one mans opinion imo
I don't think one can DICTATE what ayahuasca is for. It's different thing to different perspectives. I'm surprised that you didn't learn that in your experience.
I disagree. Psychedelics are a great way to open your mind to many aspects of our minds and the world around us. You need to integrate these experiences and not just chase them. It is possible naturally but people who are in dark places or are unable to regularly sit with themselves sometimes need a way to see things from the other side.
Truth doesn't care whether you agree or not. DMT creates a delusion of mystical experience with you. From that point onwards you will have trouble differentiating delusions with reality. But it won't be the case if you believe your delusions to be true .DMT makes your spirtual path way harder than a common man.

Whether Sadhguru or Ramana Maharshi , they are showing us that the illusory experience of this world is happening from within you. Returning the Mind to its source is the only way to experience the ultimate reality. So everyone must atlast come to this realization. Ayahuasca can be a glimpse but not a solution. As with any substance.
Thank you for your kind words. I have seen the great benefits of Ayahuasca, first of all on those that have strong addictions. These plants help you to release all your addiction and is scientifically proven. All plants are here for a reason and it is up to us to be aware about the use or misused of them. I have taken ayahuasca for over 7 years now, and I can say: Sadhguru is right. But then, so am I. It's not for everyone and it requires a lot of care and skill on the part of the shaman in order to really being a healing experience. If you ask me, I'll say it's extraordinary and that everybody should try it; but then again it's not wrong not wanting to try; it's a matter of perspective. My opinion on this issue really doesn't matter, neither does Sadhguru's - only your opinion matters. If you wanna try ayahuasca, do it; I only strongly recommend you look for a serious professional, research his background and ensure he's serious and a true healer, and only do it if it's in a proper setting and you feel really comfortable - taking ayahuasca is a ritual. I totally recommend against taking it to get high, it was not made for that and will give you serious trouble.
@James Norris Yes it is. I understand that Ayahuasca can get someone suffering from severe depression, (which I experienced for 3 years in my 20s) out of that abyss with a powerful spiritual experience/sense of inter-dependency that has the effect of kick-starting the spiritual process. It needs a highly experienced guide and is not to be played with, especially by spiritual tourists. I used Zen meditation and the Medicine Buddha sadhana to do the same. These practices are a lot safer and you don't have to travel to the Amazon etc to do them, although I assume for the tourists this is all part of the adventure.
I agree with the Guru as well. The point of a guru is to eliminate ignorance. someone who is a “dispeller of ignorance” is the direct translation of gu-ru.
Sadhguru gets that right. The body is intelligent enough to produce sufficient portion of DMT as reaction to asceticism or some sort of sadhana. If you use drugs its always an invasion with more or less bad consequences. The guru does not need direct experience with Ayahuasca because there is an archive in unconsciousness plane where every human experience is inscribed. On certain level you can dwell there and experience whatever you want. This priviledge have mystics all over world to taste the richness of the life and to be able to give it up...
I being in the Amazon rainforest couple of times, I do use Ayahuasca and it cured me from a stomach ulcer that I was fighting for 6 years in one night. Also ayahuasca changed my life I had a lots respect for you sir but after this video not so much
Ayahuasca is a teacher in the same way that Sadhguru is one. Thinking that Ayahuasca is THE path is like thinking that Sadhugur is THE path: They are not. They are just beings (one is a plant, the other a human) with a higher consciousness trying to guide and show the way to those who are seeking. But ayahuasca alone (or watching Sadhguru's videos and doing mindless yoga alone) will not take you anywhere. At the end of the day, each of us has to walk our own path. The work is a personal process - regardless of the teacher. Guru's (and plant teachers) are just there to provide a map and a clear light so we can walk without falling so much. That's all. I've done ayahuasca 50+ times, working at a medicine community in the mountains of Colombia and I have seen both cases: People who have drank the medicine 100s of times and are still where they started People who drink it once, do their work, and completely transform their life. (we're talking suicidal people, depressive ones, criminals and more literally turning their life around after a profound experience) I'm sure the same happens at the Isha institute - there's plenty of amazing people who have grown so much from the practices.. And there's the rest who may be doing the practices but aren't really committed about their internal growth. Again, you don't need ayahuasca to grow spiritually... But you also do not need Sadhguru either. The truth is that in these times, a little help does not hurt. :)
I drank ayahuasca 25 or so times, there were some great insights and sensations, temporary Unity Consciousness and love/bliss, but overall it left me feeling lower within 5-7 days of the ceremonies because I knew i couldn't sustain the feelings that the plants gave me, I unfortunately had no integration therapists to work with, which they offer at some centers in Peru. My ceremonies with Yage/Ayahuasca in Colombia were powerful for clearing my digestive track though, which may have been helpful then on a physical level because my system wasn't healthy, but there's other ways to heal that, like water only fasting, a lifestyle high in non-refined whole plant foods, and regular herbal parasite cleansing. I think for someone whose just starting on the spiritual path some plant medicines can help 'jump-start' the God within, but in the long-term it's not sustainable. True awakening isn't through plant medicines. It comes through self-purification and many yogi guru mystics teach sustainable methods of Santosha/liberation. One yoga teacher who had lived in ashrams in India once said to me that drugs "show you the house of spirituality, but they don't let you in."
bunch of bullshit. psychedelics are the way. yoga teachers don't know what they're talking about. you yourself admit you didn't even go through the recommended steps.
Through Ayahuasca I realised that I'm a yogi. I think psychedelic substances can be used to overcome a spiritual stagnancy or help someone become conscious of the spiritual process itself. Problematic is when you keep coming back to them and don't establish a sadhana.
DMT showed me that I was a Buddhist and Yogi in my past lives. My ancestors came to me. Now I believe.... Now I know when you're around protecting me... Now I know the essence of who I was , who I am and who I will always be, with this enlightenment is now inevitable.... In this lifetime or the nextsss.. I will be going on a Ayahuasca retreat next month... Looking forward to it. There is so much to be said. Just do it, be an observer when doing it so that you don't fall into a dream state and fall into delusion. If you fall into delusion you will think what is happening is real and be scared. Fear will cause you not to learn what is being taught. There is no good or bad experience. If you go into it with a mindset of compassion and have worked on the wrongs that you've committed no matter how bad they may seem you will be forgiven because they will see what's in your heart.
Athul James I would love to but it is kind of impossible to do here. I will say though that if one does take these things it is really important to be ready, prepared spiritually and have strength of mind. They are powerful teachers.

Peace, health and happiness to Sadhguru and everyone here. I rarely disagree with Sadhguru, but this is one such moment. In my own experience with various entheogenic compounds, Ayahuasca included, there is indeed the potential for profound, deeply meaningful and outright mystical experiences, but this comes with some caveats. Ayahuasca and other entheogenic psychedelics are simply technologies, tools that require certain techniques to use. Take a stiff dose of ayahuasca, and you will indeed have quite the experience, possibly even transformative. Take a weaker dose, and the mind is relaxed, vision can turn inward, a deep introspective experience can be had. It takes diligent effort and understanding to apply these substances in different ways, but they have their uses. My own mystical experiences brought about by psychedelics were deeply moving, reaffirmed my love of life and of all beings in the universe and motivated me to reinforce my meditation and yoga practice. Treating these substances not as magic short cuts to enlightenment, but as tools to help those of us who choose to use them to further our practice opens a world of possibilities.
There is nothing spirtual about it . The very fact that you want to take psychedelics is a psychological aspect that contains desire for shortcuts, quick solutions ,intention. So DMT creates a delusion which makes you feel content but in truth you are under the deeper illusion of mind. You lack the comprehension to understand the profoundness of spirituality.
@@phoenixj1299 Though I see your point, I must disagree on a simple basis - you have no authority over my experiences, nor I over yours or anyone else’s. What works for me may not work for you and that’s fine, but don’t assume to dismiss the whole thing out of hand because of that.
I am not talking from the perspective of someone who has reached awareness, but what you said about Ayahuasca not being a shortcut makes a lot of sense. I think ultimately whether one chooses meditation, Ayahuasca or both is a matter of personal choice/predisposition, but there should always me a proper guide/support to make sure that one understands the experience preventing one from going “crazy”.
I agree it's not necessary to take medicine like ayahuasca for a deep spiritual experience. Everything is already there. But in my experience ayahuasca is not only working on a physical level, like Sadghuru says. Mother Ayahuasca is a great teacher and works on all levels. And it doesn't break you, I can be challenging, yes. That's why you really should do it with a great healer, who also helps with integration after the ceremony. It's one way of many, no way is "right" or "wrong". For me working with ayahuasca changed everything in my life, I'm beyond grateful for this medicine.
One cannot ignore the therapeutic value of psychedelics in a proper mindset and setting. One shouldn't use it as a shortcut to enlightenment although it's easy to see it that way. This is understandable. But I think psychedelics should be treated with reverence. It's one of the most valuable tools humanity has and we should use it wisely and be grateful this technology exists.
After my experience with Iboga, I actually experienced (not as a mental concept) that half of my breathing apparatus hangs on a tree, literally like Sadhguru says all the time. My Iboga experience actually motivated me to pursue spirituality further and I enrolled myself in Inner Engineering. I have been doing Shambhavi Mahamudra daily for the last one year since and never had any urge to participate in a Iboga ceremony again. So, in my opinion, plant medication can act as the first step in your spiritual journey but a powerful practice like Shambhavi Maha Mudra is needed for you to make real progress. I say first step because I’m sure most people can’t even comprehend what Sadhguru’s actually talking about because they have never experienced any space between themselves and their psychological drama. So they won’t have the motivation to follow through a spiritual practice like Shambhavi because they have never even had a glimpse of what’s on the other side. For example, once you experience something like accessing Akashik records even temporarily, you will become sufficiently motivated to pursue a spiritual practice diligently. That type of experience will stay with you for life 🙂
As I understood from what Sadhguru says in this video, he is not completely discounting the power of psychedelics. At various points in the video he says, "it gives you temporary access", "it can cause extensive damage", "it's a painful process" etc. He's proposing that there is a less painful alternative. So all he's saying is that he wouldn't recommend them. As others have also mentioned in the comments section, he can't straight off say that psychedelics are great because then people will start abusing them .
Psychedelics don't leave me flat far from it, actually guide you back if you get off track. I don't think there is a bad trip, you can overdo it, but it will leave you analysing why this or that was seen or experienced and it helps immensely in appreciating life. It's like a reminder this is what pure love feels like, You can achieve similar with prolonged meditation but psychedelics are just more fun
His description exactly depicts my experience of ayahuasca (around 25 ceremonies) and other plants...it creates a temporary awakening and set me back down into bad places...true awakening comes through self purification and self realization techniques that ancient Yogis teach. Aya overall is not good in my opinion, the first few ceremonies in Colombia did purge my digestive track quite a bit, which was helpful though on a physical level, which is another thing he talks about as well, but there are other ways to do that.
@@benzenner8826 Your experience is very different from countless thousands of other people who have tremendously benefited from ayahuasca. It has helped many people to heal and grow spiritually in a very powerful way. It certainly doesn't do all the work for you. You still need to meditate regularly or do some kind of spiritual practice that quiets the mind and takes you deep within your being. But ayahuasca for the vast majority of people when done with shamans that know what they are doing is very healing and empowering and facilitates spiritual growth in a powerful way.
@@benzenner8826 Clearly you're one of the few who didn't get a good experience out of it. That shouldn't be a reason to talk badly and spread misinformation about it.
I appreciate your view on these hallucinogens, however, experience with some of these substances can truly change your life from misery to joy. Not that it should be used constantly, but when someone's mind is so full of constant chatter and their body is incredibly out of balance chemically, this can bring them back to a level playing field, where they may be able to heal. It can be an indication of how the body and the self are different.
More often than not it just ends in addiction though, and most addicts aren't even aware they are addicts. Very rarely in this world has taking these drugs improved anyone's life in the long run.
@@mybluebreeze1995 addiction to what? Ayahuasca/lsd/mushrooms? People addicted to those psychadelics happen to be very rare. They aren't very addictive in nature.
I think Sadhguru is a gifted mystic and amazing human. I love his books and his talks - but I also like it when he talks about things he actually knows about and has done. How can he have such a strong opinion about something he has never experienced? He compares it with LSD and other drugs, but those are chemical compounds made in a laboratory. I have never done Ayuhuasa, but I have met many people who have. I don't have an opinion on the experience because I have never done it. All I know is that it is a medicine that has been used for thousands of years and that has helped MILLIONS of people. Not all of us have the pleasure of having a transcendental moment on a hill in our 20's that transforms us into yogis. I think Sadhguru should save his opinion for the the topics he actually knows about, which is thousands of other things that I would rather hear him talk about.
yah, no doubt psychedelics are a marvelous tools for healing/expansion not to be abused as a source of addiction of/c. I suppose what he is trying to reinforce is that we are capable of having such experiences of a psychedelic nature w/o having to turn to something externally. We can produce DMT naturally too. The layers of conditioning can make it ever so difficult though.
True. I guess he says these things so that people don't think psychedelics are the only way to get a spiritual experience. But I agree there's nothing wrong to try them once in a while. I had amazing experience with them ❤️
@@faizam5789 I'm personally not convinced that you can get there without them. You can certainly access altered states of consciousness. @@DMTmates who knows tho, maybe...just maybe. the likes of Sadhguru, eckhart tolles, ramana mahirishi and other regular unknowns, are able to facilitate such things at will? I can confirm I do not know.
I can only say that I have benefitted tremendously from ayahuasca and mushrooms in a way that I really dont think I could have done on my own (the purge of emotions they allow in a night would take many years to achieve), having said that they are indeed external tools and we cannot rely solely on them - we need to apply the lessons we learn on the daily life.
Instead of discouraging people to go for the experience. I would have appreciated more, if he had spoken about working with your shadows for a while before going for the ayuaska experience. Well! What I read between the lines is If everybody can experience higher states consciousness for themselves, by consuming a halucegenic then we probably won’t need a Sadhguru!
When you're using hallogenics all the time, it's not healthy. Is it? You're depending on something to help you grow spiritually and that's also a kind of addiction and attachment. Whereas SadhgGuru is a guide. You don't have to 💯 percent agree with him on everything and don't have to be dependent on him but you can of course take his words of wisdom and seek the truth for yourself. You can automatically experience a lot of things in this case whereas on those methods, you NEED these herbs which gives you some experience.

I disagree. A thousand years of meditation or stillness couldn't replicate the experience of Ayahuasca or any high dose experience with a psychedelic. I could be wrong, but it sounds like you have zero experience with Ayahuasca etc., and if that's true, you'd be unqualified to advise others on this. Also, Sadhguru is wrong around 5:30 as psychedelics are NOT meant to be a permanent experience, duh. See: "Alienation from nature and the loss of the experience of being part of the living creation is the greatest tragedy of our materialistic era. It is the causative reason for ecological devastation and climate change. Therefore I attribute absolute highest importance to consciousness change. I regard psychedelics as catalyzers for this. They are tools which are guiding our perception toward other deeper areas of our human existence, so that we again become aware of our spiritual essence. Psychedelic experiences in a safe setting can help our consciousness open up to this sensation of connection and of being one with nature. LSD and related substances are not drugs in the usual sense, but are part of the sacred substances, which have been used for thousands of years in ritual settings. The classic psychedelics like LSD, Psilocybin and Mescaline are characterized by the fact that they are neither toxic nor addictive. It is my great concern to separate psychedelics from the ongoing debates about drugs, and to highlight the tremendous potential inherent to these substances for self-awareness, as an adjunct in therapy, and for fundamental research into the human mind. It is my wish that a modern Eleusis will emerge, in which seeking humans can learn to have transcendent experiences with sacred substances in a safe setting. I agree that you shouldn't take anything you aren't ready for or called to but I believe Aya is sacred and connects us to mother nature and the earth in a very deep and healing way. Grounding through meditation is important too on a daily basis but I don't think ayahuasca should be labeled as just a hallucinogenic. It can described as such but it's also a sacred medicine. With its own spirit and teachings. It has a beautiful way of working with the individual and afterwards isn't a come down it's called integration and its peaceful and present.
I look at psychedelic substances through the lens of medicine. They can facilitate healing. But they are not addictive. That said, Sadhguru is right that while these tools are helpful and there's absolutely nothing wrong with using them, they cannot take the place of a genuine spiritual practice. They can be complementary and helpful, but one should not use them as a substitute for putting in the work.
It doesn't matter if Sadhguru's done it or not. It is what it is. You may do it in this lifetime or not. You are the devine either way and nothing will change that... Nothing :) Peace and love to you all.
Namaskaram @Sadhguru - may I ask (most respectfully) if you have received ayahuasca from a traditional shaman? I Am appreciative of you sharing your perspective & if you have not yet had a direct experience with this plant medicine, this commentary is a personal opinion - no different than if an ayahuasca shaman who never meditated shared his opinion on meditation based on how he perceived it to be without ever trying it himself 🙏 We need to be clear about this because many devotees & followers who watch these wonderful videos and attend satsangs may close the door on an experience that I have personally found to be beneficial alongside a daily meditation practice. I can see how your message may be confused as dismissing a spiritual practice that carries a very long lineage of ancestral wisdom that is intended to expand one’s consciousness at an organic pace, especially when facilitated by a guide who is well trained - similar to the benefits of meditation. Ayahuasca is not meditation & vice versa, so we cannot compare apples to oranges. Bless you for your courage to speak on a topic of tremendous spiritual significance & sacredness 🙏 May we all enjoy a prosperous spiritual life, honoring each way of retuning to love 💗 Many blessings & aloha from Hawai’i 🌈 Giuliano

Dearest Sadhguru, I wanted to tell you that I follow you a lot and admire you, you are contributing to the growth of my spirit and that of millions of people. I recently attended a 12 day ayahuasca retreat/diet. Having previously participated in a vipassana meditation retreat, I found many similarities between the two experiences. To the point of considering them complementary. From my humble point of view I believe that traditions so different but both so ancient and wise can find points in common having the aim of healing the spirit and the soul. The Amazonian medicine center that I visited has as its objective the treatment of drug addictions for which a six-month retreat is foreseen. The "vomitive" part of the cleanse involves only two hours of the entire 12-day process. The ayahuasca ceremony itself lasts 4 to 6 hours. I agree that the plant elevates the mind and then everything returns to normal. But the days following the intake of ayahuasca are of meditative isolation and silence in the Amazon forest, and, with the help of psychologists, they are used to analyze and metabolize the intuitions that the plant suggests and amplifies. Each era has a different approach to resources. Today in the field of "Western" medical research we are rediscovering how LSD itself can be used in medicine for research on mental disorders. As well as for ayahuasca and addictions. To date, the ayahuasca ceremonies only partially retain the ritual aspect that dates back to more than 2000 years ago. In the center that I visited in Peru it is mostly used to help with the analysis directed by psychoanalysts to overcome addictions to substances such as alcohol, marijuana, etc., as already mentioned. Therefore I can only draw positive conclusions at the regard. Having known people who after the treatment have overcome this problem. Finally, I believe that, like all things, it is the intention with which one approaches this type of experience that makes the difference. Having said that, I will not stop meditating and following your precious advice. Dear greetings. David
He clearly never tryt it. He shud try it first before he makes his judgement about this 2000 year most holy drink of shamisn, for sure it wil change his mind. But he wil not do that ofcourse, but in his not knowing he is holding people back from spiritual Awakening and that is a sad thing to see happening here. I never became awake if it wasnt for Ayawasca for starting this amazing journey. It gave me my life back. Just see for yourself and then judge, you wil thank me for it :)
Unluckily, he didn't answer it very good. Ayahuasca is a great teacher if you are willing to surrender, he obviously doesn't really know about it. It also doesn't heal anything for you, it just opens the door. It is up to you to decide whether you want to go through the door. You can heal everything with, from depression to autoimmune disease :)
Totally agree with Ginger Garrido and many others here... Unfortunately Sadhguru doesn't know what he is talking about here. My gratitude towards Ayahusaca is infinite. This masterplant is my Guru. She healed many wounds in my heart on the most subtle levels beyond any verbal instructions, and revealed things to me that i thought i know (in my mind) on a cellular level inside my body. Sounds even strange to put it in words. No addiction. You can look up on the internet. No one who took it ever claimed that Ayahuasca is addictive, its even scientifically confirmed. Many people stopped drinking alcohol or taking other harmful drugs after having worked with Ayahuasca. She doesn't do all the work for you though. Like a real Guru... she reminds you of your essence, she opens you inner eye, so that you become aware of what is to be done... and then it is on you to implement those insights you were given. Jay Ayahuascaji namo namaha :)
Think of it like this: WHY would you need chemicals to reach enlightenment? We live in an age today where we want everything right now, which is why everyone is going so crazy over psychedelics and finding the meaning of life etc. TRUE enlightenment comes with time and constant introspection, we should not rely on substances bc they are more quick and convenient. But what do I know? Im sure there are those that believe taking ayahuasca, shrooms, DMT was absolutely essential for their lives and I’m just some naive individual with no grasp on reality since I haven’t actually tried these substances lol. If one TRULY has the desire and intent to reach enlightenment they will find it without relying on substances as the “boost” to get them going. I know it’s easier said than done but you must truly find the motivation and desire on your own to reach enlightenment. You may or may not be successful on the first few attempts, but if you truly want to find yourself…. you will stay true and committed to the process. Always trust the process my friends
Thank you sadhguru for this. I experienced this drop of the mind and illusionary believes after an aya ceremony, and that eventually led me to yoga. I realised there needs to be another way on making this permanently.
For those who use drugs like this, the experience becomes the truth. For those who put in the hard work in finding the truth, the truth becomes the experience.
I think that it should be given much more respect in relation to other spiritual practices. Ayahuasca is not only a plant or the brew , it is also a shamanic ritual ,which expand your conciousness and also connects you with higher entities. It is really respected in the Amazons , then it has been here from generations to generations . SG should be more careful when he talks about this...
It doesn't expand consciousness, it gives insights, shows you some things, and leaves you open to interdimensional attacks and often times very horrible experiences... It can give you awareness but the true path of liberation/santosha isn't with entheogens, it's thru true self-realization that many Yoga Mystics teach.
he definitely has no idea what’s he talking about! There are people I know who meditated and did yoga 10 years never healed their depression, eating disorders, unhealthy emotional relationships etc 100 years or awareness practices would not have do it, 1 healing session with grandmother - boom done - completely changed their life, never addicted again, never came back to take another session, completely changed their lofe for the better! He has no clue what’s he talking about. So people i know heavy alcoholics or drugs addiction - after a session never back to addiction! Seen some radical healings happening! So … everyone think for themselves.
Ayahuasca helped me a lot to understand my reality. Personally I never experienced it like a new long term reality but I looked for ways to apply those truths in beneficial ways in my actual life. It's not enteriley psychodelic (not recreational at all), to me it was much more mental, which make me question a lot of things I didn't had the courage to do before. Afterwards I felt less fragmented and much more complete. I do believe meditation is the only tool we need but intention is the most important thing when exploring the unconcious. I know this medicine heal people in a wide range of experiences but if you use the tools around you with a strong intention the results will follow. Wishing you all well.
I'm from Brazil and I've done ayahuasca. He talks about parasites but we don't use ayahuasca for parasites at all. It's all a spiritual experience in my opinion. Yes, there's a purge and it can be really bad if you use alcohol and processed food regularly. I only eat natural food and my purge wasn't really bad. Ayahuasca is from Mama Gaia. When you consacrate the ayahuasca, Mama Gaia comes to you and take you to where you need to go. It can take you back to your childhood, past lives, future.... whatever you need at that moment. You cannot consacrate just fun curiosity, you need to know what you are trying to find out. If you have a question with no answer, ayahusca will show you exactly what you need to see. It's magical. I was able to draw and write some of my visions. Thank you Mama Gaia. I love you! ❤ Força e Luz! ❤
As much as i love most of what Sadguru says, i must express my opinion here and say he don't have enough experience to talk about this subject and some of the things he said it's actually very wrong.
You lack the comprehension to understand what he says. You are in lower level of consciousness. Any low level conscious being try to find shortcuts. That very nature is a compulsive process. No great and enlightened beings used DMT. The day you use DMT seals you as a failure of someone who is unable to grasp Spirituality and take steps to progress on it. DMT usage blinds you and damages your mind to the point where you require psychological help.

Alex, no, they don't break YOU. They SHATTER the reality that you've created over your whole life in an instant. Really, meditation is about slowly taking that reality apart, brick by brick, or with a sledge hammer at times if needed. It's a much more gentle process then a drugs tend to be.
I agree 100%.
True.. this is me
Exactly. You explain an important factor that Sadhguru missed completely. Psychedelics are not a 100% solution but a catalyst for self-growth. Some people are too stuck in their old ways to listen to any new perceptions, and therefore it must be “shown” to them.

As wise as Sadhguru is, it becomes clear when he speaks about psychedelics/plant medicines how little he understands about this corner of spiritual exploration.
@Shikhar Choudhary Have you ever consumed plant medicine?

This knowledge along liberated me from needing ANY from of external tool to ease, what I thought was, suffering. I'm not necessarily saying that Brahmah is above LSD, that would make no sense. I think, most people understood my message but I should have put it across clearer.

That's all.
I've done ayahuasca 50+ times, working at a medicine community in the mountains of Colombia and I have seen both cases:
People who have drank the medicine 100s of times and are still where they started
People who drink it once, do their work, and completely transform their life. (we're talking suicidal people, depressive ones, criminals and more literally turning their life around after a profound experience)
I'm sure the same happens at the Isha institute - there's plenty of amazing people who have grown so much from the practices..
And there's the rest who may be doing the practices but aren't really committed about their internal growth.
Again, you don't need ayahuasca to grow spiritually...
But you also do not need Sadhguru either.
The truth is that in these times, a little help does not hurt.

How do you do the work after Aya?
Beautifully said. I think that last sentence is important.
bunch of bullshit. psychedelics are the way. yoga teachers don't know what they're talking about. you yourself admit you didn't even go through the recommended steps.

I have experienced Ayahuasca and Mescalin and I am grateful for what I was shown and lessons learned. Amazing experiences.
Can you share your experiences 🙏

As SG said, it just gives you an illusion of understanding. But no progress is really made.
Only question is, why do you need a leaf to experience who YOU really are? Shouldn't the answer be within you? I think that's what Sadhguru is trying to say 😇🙏

@@geethaanantha1139 I agree! So simple yet so deep! I get it!
Yes but not consuming something.
What will be the amount charge if we go for Ayuhuaska?
I agree with your view- based on my personal experience and through facilitating others🌿

Drugs can break materialistic perception for moment, but for lasting results meditation is needed.
True! Sustainability is through the self.
*giggles* Break? Oh my... that sounds so gentle to what I've heard a lot of people experience.
But they are not spirtual.
That type of experience will stay with you for life 🙂
This is very well said, thanks for sharing and I totally agree - psychedelics can be a great first step.
Iboga is African. Where did you experience it? What is Shambhavi Maha Mudra?
What is akashik record?

Its always good to see a man speaking on subject he clearly knows absolutely nothing about! This way we learn to stop wasting our time on them.
Precisely 👍
His description exactly depicts my experience of ayahuasca (around 25 ceremonies) and other plants...it creates a temporary awakening and set me back down into bad places...true awakening comes through self purification and self realization techniques that ancient Yogis teach. Aya overall is not good in my opinion, the first few ceremonies in Colombia did purge my digestive track quite a bit, which was helpful though on a physical level, which is another thing he talks about as well, but there are other ways to do that.
@@benzenner8826 Your experience is very different from countless thousands of other people who have tremendously benefited from ayahuasca. yah, no doubt psychedelics are a marvelous tools for healing/expansion not to be abused as a source of addiction of/c. I suppose what he is trying to reinforce is that we are capable of having such experiences of a psychedelic nature w/o having to turn to something externally. We can produce DMT naturally too. The layers of conditioning can make it ever so difficult though.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like you have zero experience with Ayahuasca etc., and if that's true, you'd be unqualified to advise others on this.
Also, Sadhguru is wrong around 5:30 as psychedelics are NOT meant to be a permanent experience, duh.
See:
"Alienation from nature and the loss of the experience of being part of the living creation is the greatest tragedy of our materialistic era.
I am convinced that these soul-opening, mind-revealing substances will find their appropriate place in our society and our culture."

Grounding through meditation is important too on a daily basis but I don't think ayahuasca should be labeled as just a hallucinogenic. It can described as such but it's also a sacred medicine. I Am appreciative of you sharing your perspective & if you have not yet had a direct experience with this plant medicine, this commentary is a personal opinion - no different than if an ayahuasca shaman who never meditated shared his opinion on meditation based on how he perceived it to be without ever trying it himself 🙏
We need to be clear about this because many devotees & followers who watch these wonderful videos and attend satsangs may close the door on an experience that I have personally found to be beneficial alongside a daily meditation practice.

'What a wonderful life I've had. I only wished id realized it sooner,' - French novelist Sidonie Gabrielle.
And also, dmt is a hormone, so he is on it all the time ;)
Totally agree with Ginger Garrido and many others here...
@@kenzen3564do you know tat meditation induces DMT?
@@darkknight-bv4vv sure he didn't.
Thank you sadhguru for this. I experienced this drop of the mind and illusionary believes after an aya ceremony, and that eventually led me to yoga. I realised there needs to be another way on making this permanently.
Feeling such a connection with life, beyond any logic.
I totally agree
I totally agree, its a sacred medicine. You can not compare it with lsd.
It doesn't expand your awareness. It creates a delusion of expanding awareness. Not a single soul got enlightened using it.
he definitely has no idea what’s he talking about!
Hi Andres, I would like to know more about it. Like how and where have you taken the Ayahuasca ? How to reach out to you on email? thank you
I'm from Brazil and I've done ayahuasca. ❤
Nuestra Pachamama es sagrada ❤ saludos de una hermana Colombiana. Someday people will understand how sacred and healing our practices have been. 🍃🌱
As much as i love most of what Sadguru says, i must express my opinion here and say he don't have enough experience to talk about this subject and some of the things he said it's actually very wrong.
He doesn't want competition in higher vibrations otherwise he wouldn't be "special."
I agree with you
@@climatepurification I agree with you
You lack the comprehension to understand what he says.
@@phoenixj1299 thanks for your clarification! it all makes sense now. I apologise for wasting your time with my comment.
